Hello guys ❤ As promised, I'd pop up again 😊 I'm just amazed at the vast expanse of the Karoo. Places like Merriman always make me so curious as to who can live there, what they do, and where they even get any supplies from! Annelie, you need to change your social media handles to "the gatekeeper" 😂 Your Daisy Cottage was more like a Daisy Mansion 😅 It was surprisingly big! Those blooming pear trees were lovely, and I'm sure you enjoyed relaxing under them! Frikkie, as usual was so precious, even if he was stinky lol Will catch up on the other video and comment soon 😊 Love to you both ❤

Hi Kate, great to hear from you and that you are keeping up with the videos 😀. Annelie is the official BRC gate opener! 🤣. Daisy Cottage was indeed way larger than we thought it would be, but such a lovely place to stay, it is basically in the center of town and close to everything... All the best to your mom as well 😀

Thank you for showing us the Owl house, I drew the line at the cost of entry, myself. I know they have upkeep to consider but there is so much of beauty - real beauty in the town, rather than mental anguish art, that I find hard to process - found in the Owl house. Those stone men are interesting - I wonder how long they have been there. It must take serious determination and strength to make sculptures like that. Reminding me of some similar people in Namibia, also off the beaten track. I think Churches tell you a lot about the community and their grave yards are also very informative. All in all a lovely video - thank you so much.

Thanks, Penny! Yes, I can fully understand why some people will not visit the Owl House, there is certainly a sad vibe associated with it... Stonefolk of Ongeluksloot was a real surprise, but unfortunately we do not know much more about it, we simply got a recommendation to go, but it was special and highly recommended 😃 As always, we appreciate your informative commentes 😀

So interesting, your trek across the Karoo - I suppose through many farms, given all those gates. I felt for you hopping in and out to open and close them, but the result was very rewarding. Frikkie was a laugh a minute and watching you two cleaning him up after his waddle in the foul muddy water, was so funny but so understandable too. There is nothing worse than a wet smelly dog at close range. Thank you for the view of Merriman - I found the houses there interesting.(I so wanted to pass that way on my trip, for old times sake, but my disgruntled companion was making a fuss about trips out of our way, and how much petrol it took. So I thought to myself, another time without her!). I love those old houses like the one in Nieu Bethesda, I think of the families who once lived there.

What a lovely trip, its at times like this with the blockhouse viewing, and wanting a view from every angle - that the drone is truly a useful bit of kit. Hats off to you Werner for climbing up to the front door! It would have been beyond me. But well worth the effort! As for what the river is called, I imagine its the Brak, since its Brakpoort and by my understanding a poort is always a river bed.(But I bow to your superior knowledge, you are Afrikaans speaking). As for Merriman, I think its a siding named after John X Merriman who was a relation of mine. My Grandmother on my Mums side was a Merriman.

Oh I love the emptiness of the Karoo, its like medicine to me. There is nothing nicer or more interesting than the open veld. The remnants of people trying to farm the land, the wild life and the flowers eking out a life in the dryness. And all those lovely rocks - leaving me wondering how on earth they were scattered like that and why. I know it was a prehistoric lake but sometimes its all just a bit of a mystery to me. Fraserburg has a coffeeshop( cum Nursery cum printshop) - I can vouch for that - last year I drove the other direction Loxton to Sutherland on the rough road R356( may be they have graded it since we drove it or perhaps 4x4 makes it smoother?) But I loved seeing it with you - its so much easier taking it all in when one isn't doing the driving!Thank you so much!

Sometimes it’s difficult to explain the beauty of the Karoo to people who have never been. Great open spaces, rugged terrain, extreme temperatures and unforgiving sometimes for those living there. Experiencing it in person is the only way to see how all this translates to beauty. You guys bring all that to those of us sitting far away! Thank you, I can’t wait for the following episodes! Frikkie is in his element, like he owns the place! His head on Werner’s shoulder while driving the long dirt road, precious! Watching Springbok rugby in a pub in the Karoo sounds like a (South African) religious experience to me!!! Competition for the church next door! 😂😂 Love from Virginia, USA!

Hello, dear Kate ~ we have been grieving the death (via euthanasia) of our beloved 13.8 year old puplet, Milo. He’d taken a sudden (and unexpected )turn for the worst. We are now facing a second mast cell tumour surgery for our last surviving puplet, on Wednesday. She is 13.6 years old and we know her remaining time with us is limited. We’ve had dogs continuously for the past 34 years, so this is particularly hard for us. Thank you for checking up on me and for your loving thoughts. Please accept the same from me for yourself and your dear Mom 🫶🏻💕🫶🏻

Hello friends ❤ That coastal drive was so beautiful! I was so happy every time you stopped to show the sea 😊 That cave was very interesting, and I shared Annelie's awe to think that someone thousands of years ago stood in the very same spot! It gave new meaning to "huisie by die see" 😉 Let me tell you, if I had been a passenger during the 4 x 4 trail, Werner would have had to bleep out so many interesting words that he'd probably just have to put an entire song over it 😂 What a stunning morning at your "blou huis"! Those views and sounds are nothing short of therapy for the soul. Thats a lovely bit of coast line, I doubt the guys who were driving "off the road" should have been there. As driving like that damages the beaches - as much as they think it great fun. I am with Annelie about soft sand. I have got stuck in soft sand before in the Cederberg and its not fun! But having Traction mats are very important for self recovery. The skies all that day were like an ominous canvas, I hope it stayed dry for you. The caves were fascinating - Thanks for posting, its a lovely trip.

@@nonibbs Thanks for your comments, Penny. Yes, we were careful to stay on the designated tracks, but we did lose the way in the sandy part. It was then that it became too risky for us 😐. We know driving on the beach is not allowed and thus avoided it… Although it was quite windy, we stayed dry snd the clouds indeed made for good footage 😀. All the best!

Absolutely stunning, the view out the cave over the stormy southern Atlantic was breathtaking! And what skills with the drone in the wind to show us the coastline, as I have never that coast from the ocean side before. Annelie’s face on the return through the soft sand, 😂 while Werner’s toes were curling with delight with the challenge of the 4x4 track. I spent many summers escaping the crowds of Cape Town in the Gaansbaai and Kleinbaai area, but never knew half this was there! Yes Werner, technology is wonderful in the right hands! Thanks so much for taking us with! Next time Frikkie, next time!

Hello BRC friends ❤ I sometimes don't always fall asleep easily, so often the loveliest way to wind down is to enjoy one of your videos and go to sleep with all the lovely imagery in mind 😊 Although I will try block out that "beard trimmer spider creature" 😅 I was once bitten by a Sac spider, was pretty ill, not a pleasant experience etc, so I'm not particularly fond of creepy crawlies. But what I will go to sleep thinking of, is that magnificent house, the frog chorus, and the sea views ❤ I'm sure you two must smile to yourselves any time you visit any body of water, because you just know that will certainly interest me 😅 How I loved seeing Coffee on the rocks! You have a knack for finding such charming little places with such atmosphere! Your exploration of those caves took me back to some memories I have of when I went on a tour of the caves at the Cradle Of Humankind. At one section I had to basically crawl through such a small space... a teensy bit claustrophobic but also fascinating to know that some of these cave systems are millions of years old! As always, love your sense of adventure, and enjoyed being a "passenger" again 😊 Thanks guys ❤ Oh and Annelie I hope your mouth / jaw is feeling much better by now! I had 3 of my wisdom teeth out just under local in the chair, and also came away with some bruises so I know these dental procedures aren't fun at all 😩
