Video clips of themed running sessions on my main layout. The main layout is a 4 track continuous run with a station based roughly on Selby with two main platforms and a bay platform. Control is analogue dc using a Morley Vector for the main lines and a Gaugemaster GMC Combi for each of the local lines. I also have a small narrow gauge layout - just a twin gauge terminus and fiddle yard. 9mm and 12mm gauges so I can run my collection of OO9, HOe and HOm trains.
Green Ginger Light Railway - OO9 Model Railway
Inspired by a recent Budget Model Railways video:
ua-cam.com/video/85HzfAGGRh8/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
showing a really tiny N gauge layout I thought I'd make a OO9 version. The overall size is 30cm x 60cm and uses just 3 pieces of Peco flexitrack and 3 points. The Green Ginger Light Railway is a subsidiary of the Land of Green Ginger Mining Company Ltd most of the GGLR's fleet comprises 3d printed loco bodies running on Kato chassis though there are regular visiting locos from other railways.

I have so many favourite trains (all of them!) - in this first of two videos are just a few of the OO ones. Part 2 will focus on the HO ones. First on the scene is LNER B1 1236 with a rake of Pullmans - I named this loco in memory of my Dad who loved steam locos especially B1s. In the other direction is the prototype DELTIC - this must have seemed like a spaceship to 1950s trainspotters. A clas...

Locos are not a problem as I have classes 31, 37 and 60 in my collection but the 1973 built hopper wagons are not available. I made a rake of these using the Hornby PGA hoppers (Redland, ARC, Yeom...

When Push Comes to Shove - OO/HO Model Railway
This is very interesting, what else can you tell us about it?
After lots of false starts with large complex narrow gauge layouts I decided on this small and simple plan. The layout name comes from The Land of Green Ginger - a street name in the city of Kingston upon Hull where I grew up. The name has inspired a few literary works so my work of fiction is in good company. I hope to add some suitable mine buildings and scenery but for now I'm just enjoying watching my little trains running.
@attuslebeard5133 I'm sure it'll come out nice. I fully understand just watching your trains go round.
That was a very enjoyable German running session, I recognised some Piko rolling stock I also have.
Thanks Patrick - yes they make some nice coaches, I'm still trying to get a brake version of the 4 wheel coach.
Great trains, I have a few of the East German rolling stock as well, it’s kind of unique…
Thanks for sharing, now I know how ro maintain my Lima FS D342. I've tried to keep away from the earlier Lima locos, but ended up getting a pretty well running one with a rake of FS passenger cars: ua-cam.com/video/3a6ukPCXeeI/v-deo.htmlsi=AiihAQEj_ILmfuKO. In regards to the FS E424, I opted for a little later Lima model: ua-cam.com/video/JaO3KYqWQBQ/v-deo.htmlsi=Nqac9bJ2bt1rfKdz
Wow, you've covered this theme exhaustively!!! You show a great mix of trains, and it looks like we are into a lot of the same stuff...
Thanks Tom. I'm glad you liked it
@ thanks for your response. Btw, I tried to download your track plan, but got an error message that the link has expired..
@@tomsmaerklintrainlayout6742 Thanks for letting me know about that. I have now updated the link.
Wow, what a great collection!!! I love the fact that you run HO and OO scale models on the same layout, as I have 1 DC oval around my AC layout that will be extended to 2 with 4 sidings so I can run more OO scale trains at the same time.
Thanks Tom. I enjoy running a variety of trains in both scales - I will be adding a narrow gauge track soon so I can run my OO9/HOe trains too.
@ great, once I’ve replaced 4 of the Marklin C-track sidings with Trix C-track curved turnouts & Bachmann EZ track (I bought a box of 100 9-inch straight pieces in the beginning, I can run 4 trains simultaneously…
@@tomsmaerklintrainlayout6742 Sounds good - I thought about changing one of my tracks to 3 rail but the crossover tracks I have on the layout made it too complicated.
super fun
That's a fine running session.
Thanks Patrick
Lovely running session Attus
Thanks very much - glad you like it
its nice that you are including it on the layout as i am polish but live in england so its nice for me to se
I'm glad you like it. I will update the video soon as I have some PKP coaches and a diesel loco too.
Is that a Mehano tram at 0:58?
It is - well spotted. I repainted it into British Railways multiple unit green to represent the trams used on the Grimsby - Immingham tramway.
@@attuslebeard5133 I've been looking at these for some time, I'd quite fancy a set and repaint it in two-tone green, the standard Italian urban public transport livery between the late 20s and 1971, a livery that lived on well into the 90s in some places.
@@patricksmodels Sounds good. I got mine from ebay for about £20. Mine runs nicely though with a slight waddle.
Thats a nice running session. I'm going to have to source some stainless steel coaches for my GéGé rubber belt driven BB9240, I've already spotted a mix of Jouefs and Limas at good prices. You've done away with some of Jouef's weird and wonderful mechanisms, opting for trusty old Lima reliability. I've yet to add a diesel Jouef to my collection, something like the later BB6700 with one driven axle on the driving bogie. At the moment my only non-steam Jouef is the early BB6700 chassis I used for my scratch-built railcar and that's all-whee--drive.
Thanks Patrick. I bought the Budd unit without a motor and managed to motorise it with the short wheelbase Lima bogie from the FS low floor driving coach . Some of the 3 pole Jouef motors had very poor magnets so ran extremely hot and very slowly. I discovered that the Lima CC21000 loco chassis is a direct swap for the Jouef CC72000 (Just needed the solid glazing units opening out to give more room for the motor ). I am on the lookout for another CC21000 to remotor the Jouef CC6500. Those stainless steel coaches are plentiful as both Lima and Jouef made trainsets with them and the CC40100. Yes the 67000 is the classic French diesel - so many versions of this in model form. My bb16500 has the same later Jouef motor bogie and it's very smooth running.
@@attuslebeard5133 you did well to recycle the motor bogie from the FS low floor pilot coach, it shouldn't be powered anyway, they were used on push&pull trains, "treni navetta" usually powered by E626 locos.
@@attuslebeard5133 I've heard that Jouef open frame motors tend to get weak magnets. Mine are in good condition luckily. I wonder how they'd react to that British magnetiser many model train enthusiast have.
@@patricksmodels Yes it always puzzled me why Lima put a motor in that. Oh well I made good use of it - though it does make the Budd power car ride a bit too high.
@@patricksmodels I did consider getting one of those magnetisers after seeing it on OO Bill's channel but they are a bit too expensive for me. I now only have two good 3 pole Jouef motors - they are both in BB13000 flatirons (though I repainted one of these locos into maroon/yellow livery to represent a CFL3600).
Oops - looks like I fixed something that wasn't broken. I should have left the chimney alone as it's supposed to have a sharp point on the top edge.
It's in Belgian livery, the same as mine! These loco driven Piko BR55s are great engines.
Yes I'm pleased to have got the Belgian one as all my other HO steam locos are German. I'm amazed that it incorporates a moving radius rod/bar - none of my modern super detailed locos have this.
Loving the Gutzold, thanks for showing that one. I like these “Hustler” style shunters. Wasn’t aware of this one. Enjoyed the video 👍🏻
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes the Gutzold is a recent find for me - it growls and waddles but it can run really slowly and pulls well. I've seen them in blue and red liveries too.
Nice selection of Class 37s!
That's a fine collection of Austrian trains. I've got family in Graz, I travelled on Austrian trains in the 1980s and on the Romolus Rome-Vienna international train. I remember we had to wait some time at Tarvisio, the border crossing between Italy and Austria, for passport control and shunting, the coaches coming from Trieste had to be added to train. On one winter trip I remember being delayed due to frozen points. Winters were very harsh, in particular in 1984. A friend of mine was in the Guardia di Finanza, the Italian customs police, and in the 80s he was stationed in Tarvisio, the place was nicknamed "Inferno Bianco" i.e. White Hell, for its extremely low temperatures.
I've been on that route a couple of times (in Summer luckily) in the opposite direction to get to Venice and Trieste. I enjoyed visiting the railway museum at Trieste. You may have noticed in the video the KMB 1080 and 1180 do not have coupling rods - the chassis on these locos both have mazak rot so are now unpowered.
@@attuslebeard5133 I'll look closer, I hadn't noticed. What make are they? I watched the video on the phone, I'll watch it again on the computer.
@@patricksmodels They are Kleinmodellbahn.
@@attuslebeard5133 thanks, is zamak rot common in Klein Modellbahn products?
@@patricksmodels I have seen it in many examples of these 2 locos and also the 1046. Not sure about their other locos.
Those are two very nice locomotives. I see the Rome -Warsaw international train is running again! 😊
Yes indeed. I need to update this video as I've got some PKP coaches and another loco SU45 diesel. The EU06 is my favourite due to its similarity to British Rail class 83
What size is it? We seem to have similar stock, I guess everyone dies🤣
The layout is built around the walls of an 11' x 11' room. 4 separate tracks with passing loops at the station. I have far too much stock but I like steam, diesel and continental railways so there's always something to collect!
love this, lots of coming and going
This is the project you mentioned today. You could make the roof headlight housing out of a heat shrink tube.
Yes I plan to do that
Nice locomotive and teak coaches.
Thanks Patrick. The teaks are the cheap Hornby Railroad ones with a sepia wash to tone down the plastic finish
@@attuslebeard5133 they look very realistic now.
Very nice locomotives and trains! The Limas have the usual G-Type pancake motor, how is the mechanism of the Dapol one?
Yes the Lima have the usual pancake motor bogie. The Dapol one has a central motor with flywheels and cardan shafts to drive the bogies. It's a very heavy but super smooth loco - I used to have this fitted with DCC sound but have since reverted to DC.
That's a very fine collection! I've seen all of these locomotives and coaches in service. When I was called up for my Italian military service on the 15th of July 1997 I took the train from Padua to Mestre (Venice mainland), consisting in Piano Ribassato (lowered deck) coaches pulled (or pushed) by an E646 navetta locomotive. In Mestre I changed train and boarded the inter-regional train to Udine, formed by double deck coaches pulled (or pushed) yet again by an E646. Both were in the MDVE livery, as depicted by your models. In the late 90s you could still come across Piano Ribassato coaches in the old "Grigio Ardesia" slate grey livery, so your train is prototypical for the last years of the 20th Century, before the introduction of the unloved XMPR white, blue and green livery. I can still remember that double deck train that took me to my military destination call-up unit in Udine. I was upstairs sitting on those rather sticky brown leatherette seats (it was a hot summer day) and the train was full of boisterous conscripts, but things got quieter after Treviso when we saw the recruit reception corporals on the platforms lining up the first men to get off the train "Silenzio, borse a destra! Documenti!" (Silence, bags on the right! ID!) And the train got emptier at each station with a barracks: Pordenone, Casarsa della Delizia and eventually Udine, where I also got off. The recruit reception corporals were there waiting for us, we already knew the drill, bags on the right and silence. They marched us off to the goods depot where we were identified, then we were loaded onto a few army buses and lorries and a new adventure began. A few months later I was standing on the same station platform in Udine wearing my No.1 uniform with corporal chevrons on my epaulettes and the red infantry drill corporal lanyard on my left shoulder, barking out the same orders "Bags on the right, silence! ID at the ready!"
It's amazing the vivid memories that model railways can evoke - great story. The piano ribassato coaches took me a long time to find - even then I had to be satisfied with the odd grey driving trailer. For some reason this coach had a motor bogie fitted though I've since removed the pick ups and gears to make it free-running.
Lovely train, the E656 and a combination of 1980s and 90s FS coach liveries. It brings back lots of memories!
Yes I remember so many colourful liveries back then in my Interailing days
That's interesting. I've never handled a current Lima locomotive. Having pick-up only on one bogie is a step back compared to the old Lima layout, with pick-up on one side of the motor bogie and on the other side of the dummy one. With this layout there's no risk of stalling on points.
Yes I quite agree about the pickups - and no flywheel to help it across the gaps.
i like that steamlokomotives ! but they are in 1/76 scale? would not fit to my 1/87 märklin ? is the blue one a mallard? beautyfull long train ! =)
Yes these are 1/76 OO - a little bit bigger than märklin though same track gauge (16.5mm). Yes one of the blue ones is the famous Mallard.
@@attuslebeard5133 YES that Desing i like so much, hard to find in 1/87 scale? verry nice track to show long trains, so much action, i will have a look at your other videos is there one that shows the whole track? greetings Stefan

Thanks for the kind comments and for subscribing
I had a Mainline /Dapol 56 in BR blue, and it looked really good, but unfortunately didn't run very well at all. The Mainline and Dapol mechanisms were rather variable in quality: I had two of the Mainline Peaks and they always ran very well, a Warship which looked terrific but barely ran at all, and ditto a Standard 4 steam loco. My particular class 56 fell in between these extremes for running qualities. Your 56 diesels look fine, though.
Yes I think I have been lucky with my 56s - they all seem to run pretty well and are controllable. My two peaks and most of my other Mainline locos just do their own thing - zoom around the layout and then slow to a crawl and then take off again
Bell type motor
Wow! That's actually really effective, good job:)
Thanks Eddy
That's very interesting, I'll try and find out if there's a way to keep the pantographs closed.

Nice loco pushing session. The Italian FS double decker coaches pushed by the E646 remind me of the day I was drafted into the Italian army as a conscript, the train from Venezia Mestre to Udine was one of these. It was the 15th of July 1997 and I was sitting upstairs on those sticky brown vinyl seats. The passengers were nearly all conscripts heading for their first training unit and as we progressed eastward as men got off they were lined up on the platform by recruiting corporals shouting orders. When we eventually reached Udine we were marched off to the station goods warehouses for identification, standing with our bags on the right while the soldiers checked our call-up papers and our ID. Then we boarded two buses and three lorries and a new adventure began. A few months later I was at the same station in uniform identifying other recruits. Happy memories of many years ago.
Interesting times. My memories of Italian Railways are from the 4 Interail holidays I did between 1989 and 1992 - all before the xmpr era so I particularly like the old brown locos
