  • Here's my collection of Roco, Lima and Kleinbahn Austrian trains. Roco 1141 hauls a mixed rake local train while Kleinbahn 5047 railcar forms a branch line service. Kleinbahn 1044.2 passes with an international train formed of Roco Austrian coaches and Lima Italian UIC-Z coaches and is crossed by a Lima 1042 pushing a set of KleinModellbahn Schlieren coaches. Oldtimer Roco 1018 ekes out its last days on a local train of Liliput skirted coaches. A mixed freight train rumbles along behind green electrics Lima 1042 + Kleinmodellbahn 1180. A trip freight of empty iron ore hoppers is hauled by Lima 2067 with Kleinmodellbahn 1080 dead in train. Finally a Kleinbahn 2143 diesel is propelling a snowblower (also by Kleinbahn) borrowed from the neighbouring SBB.

That's a fine collection of Austrian trains. I've got family in Graz, I travelled on Austrian trains in the 1980s and on the Romolus Rome-Vienna international train. I remember we had to wait some time at Tarvisio, the border crossing between Italy and Austria, for passport control and shunting, the coaches coming from Trieste had to be added to train. On one winter trip I remember being delayed due to frozen points. Winters were very harsh, in particular in 1984. A friend of mine was in the Guardia di Finanza, the Italian customs police, and in the 80s he was stationed in Tarvisio, the place was nicknamed "Inferno Bianco" i.e. White Hell, for its extremely low temperatures.

I've been on that route a couple of times (in Summer luckily) in the opposite direction to get to Venice and Trieste. I enjoyed visiting the railway museum at Trieste. You may have noticed in the video the KMB 1080 and 1180 do not have coupling rods - the chassis on these locos both have mazak rot so are now unpowered.

@@attuslebeard5133 I'll look closer, I hadn't noticed. What make are they? I watched the video on the phone, I'll watch it again on the computer.

@@patricksmodels I have seen it in many examples of these 2 locos and also the 1046. Not sure about their other locos.
