Flair 58 Day 1 - Unboxing and first espresso
Переглядів 10 тис.Рік тому
After using Flair Pro 2 for almost two years, I've decided to upgrade to Flair 58. Join me in unboxing and assembling it in this video. I'll then pull my first shot which, admittedly, went much better than I was afraid of (it was horrible with Pro 2). Note: This video is using AI voiceover but I also added embedded captions in case you want to watch it without audio. Equipment on the video - Fl...

Espresso @ 6.5 bars on Gaggia Classic
Переглядів 10 тис.2 роки тому
I recently set my machine's pressure to 6.5 bars (previously it was 9 bars). It's trial and error as the puck dissolves faster when the pressure is below 9 bars which results in higher flow rate, but it's getting there.
Gaggia Classic Pro 6.5-bar OPV spring installation
Переглядів 11 тис.2 роки тому
I already had 9-bar OPV spring installed on my Gaggia Classic Pro. After switching to a new basket, I have to grind finer. To avoid overextraction, I decided to go with lower pressure. In this video, I replace my 9-bar spring with 6.5-bar spring. I like how simple making coffee is with the Clever Dripper, and the coffee is no less tasty than the other methods I know. In this video, I'm going with a 1-to-18 ratio, and using the technique that was initially shared by Workshop Coffee on their UA-cam Channel, and featured by James Hoffmann in his Clever Dripper video. Breakfast by noon!
Which grinder you're advise to buy?
Hi why are you using a different handle than the one that came with the machine?
Anyone tried grinding weed with this?
A couple of "endgame" upgrades are a bluetooth scale and a bluetooth pressure transducer to connect to apps for flow and pressure profiling. If you can't stomach the price tag for either of those, someone made a github with DIY versions you can make yourself!
Mraz Mountains

Hey I’m curious why the boiler heats over the ideal temperature by so much and then drops 30 degrees. How quickly can you start steaming after you stop pulling a shot?
Why is your steam light on at the same time as the espresso light? I see an answer below; regards.
How many grams of coffee can you get at most?
I don't understand why if the dose for an average coffee is 7 grams on youtube for a cup everyone uses more than than double.🫤
Hello. The best video I've seen about a Flair so far! Thank you SO much Just upgraded my Classic one with Pro 2 upgrade kit! Can'T wait to try.

great video! i had trouble with my CM 800 and now i could understand how to fine tune it. saved me a lot of money, thank you so much!
What’s your funnel brand?
Mine only clicks 8 times wtf?
Very nice. Greetings from Barcelona
Do you have any idea why i dont feel any pressure during pre infusion?
I just bought one, but when i do preinfusion for about 15s the pressure stay on 1 bar and coffee already come out and when i push it down again with more force the preasure went from 1 bar to 2 bar only Do you have any idea?
Stark hab auch die Gaggia und überleg jetzt die Flair zu holen für high end espresso und die Gaggia iwann durch die Profitec Go zu ersetzen
Very great video, looking to buy one of these, lil tip is to spray a bit of water on the beans before grinding them, this works even what grinder u have👍🏼
Can you tell me which grind makes espresso taste good on the Breville grinder?
I had to get inside the machine and change the grind setting there. I don't think Breville set up for single baskets. I moved 3 steps below the set zero.
Hi, for the flair 58 pro2 is the leveler size 58.3 mm? Thank you.
I am going to give you a huge thanks and give myself a huge facepalm. This was actually on the handbook but I had forgotten about it and if it wasn't for your video, I would never realise it. The factory settings were spot on to use in my Krups XP50000 something with unpressurized basket but whenever I tried it on the Delonghi Dedica, also with an unpressurized basket, the coffee was too coarse. I will try this at lunch and then post the results
Would you not get the same results if you used a finer setting, like 9 or lower?
How different is it from grinding on 13 twice
Interesting... I think it's better to buy a better grinder like the german coffee grinder Commandante
Whenever i prepare my coffe with the hand grinder and with a v60 im always left with some mud like sediment, and i cant seem to fix that. I do not know if its the grimding or the preparation. Anyone has ant tips?
It's normal
Basically, you are doing the same job as an auger in some electric grinders
Now that is some nice crema. Great job.
Экстракция 43 сек, вот это да!
I had subliminal nanofoamer lithium. It worked great for a while but then the impeller broke. I thought this product would be different but they are using same impeller.
I have the same (Lithium) and the impeller is slightly different. This one has a thicker frame and the screen can be dismantled by twisting it. I might show this in a future long-term review video.
@@ColorsofSoundUA-cam Cool. That will be great. I like the fact that your machine doesn't have to worry about charging. I might just bite the bullet and get one too.
Awesome video quality! Thankful that the music isn't too loud so I can still hear you clearly
Here's another tip you can use a power drill with the right size socket to turn the wheel instead of the handle. It's effortless and easy!
20s? Way too quick unless you're going for a ristretto
Thanks! I just got this grinder and did a pour over that’s not bad but I’m getting an aeropress soon so I’ll try your technique!
Hey any update on the aeropress? I just bought this grinder and came across the video - I also liked the potential from an earlier comment about attaching the hand drill to a socket to turn it with more consistency...Thanks, hope you're good.
The part "adjustment" helped me a lot. Now I am getting the grinding consitency which I need. Thank you very much!
Was your lever assembly wobbly/not inserted properly without the screw to the base? Just got my new Pro 2 and have this issue…
Yes, it was a bit wobbly. I then upgraded to Flair 58 which has the same problem. I saw comments from other people, too, so I think it is okay.
how much grams of coffee did u use? and what was the brew time in total?
16g - 50s
If you were blindfolded do you think you could notice the difference between one of these manual machines compared to a standard automated one ?
Mostly yes, but depends on the machine. I've used Gaggia Classic for over a year which is kind of an entry level machine but I did modify it for temperature control/stability and standard pressure (9 bar). Still, the shots were mostly bitter. It's difficult to get bitterness with Flair Pro 2 (unless your beans are roasted too much or you grind them too fine) because heating is a problem. So, bitterness would be a differentiator for me. The other differentiator would be the body vs aftertaste. The good shots with Flair Pro 2 have an incredible aftertaste that you would not want it to go away, whereas automated machines produce shots with more body. I experienced this first hand in Italy this summer, in Rome and Naples. I could never get the shots with such a strong body from Flair Pro 2 or Flair 58 that they were getting from machines that you'd have to sell your car for. If I were to make an order though, I'd focus on the grinder first, than the beans, than the machine. With a good grinder and good beans, you can do wonders even with Mokapot/Aeropress.
@@ColorsofSoundUA-cam Thanks so much for the detailed response, appreciate it 🙏 Ah okay yes that makes sense my local barista always says the same thing you can buy affordable auto machines but it just never re creates the same kind of espresso you would get from a good cafe . Yes at the moment I have a v60, French press and aero press but after trying them all out I always seem to go back to the French press something about the immersion just produces better flavours for me personally. I always was considering buying an auto machine but after recently finding out about the flair the concept of them just look very fun so rewarding and satisfying I would love to try one out.
@@ColorsofSoundUA-cam Also would you have any recommendations for a reasonably affordable manual grinder ?
@@jimsta06 If you end up buying a Flair, why not bundle it with their Royal grinder? People seem to be happy about it (for espresso). I have 1zpresso K-Pro which can make both filter and espresso, but because of that, there are no micro adjustments. You can also have a look at Timemore, they seem to have a good reputation.
@@jimsta06 As an alternative you can get a Comandante C40 grinder and Moka/Brikka pot..it gives excellent results with practice
So we are at least 2 lever-espresso-loving developers...how did you develop the app? I just did some simple android development stuff with VS2022 (C#) and Xamarin to create a stopwatch for my Samsung Galax Z Flip 5 cover screen. Works quite well, you can even use breakpoints from inside VS while debugging the app directly on the phone with USB connected...
I'm an iOS developer by profession, so I built an iOS app. If I were to create a product, I'd probably go for a cross-platform thing like Xamarin or React Native/Flutter, but didn't have the time and motive to go that far. I don't pressure-profile as much as I used to. My main challenge is that I don't have a small Bluetooth scale, so it's a bit of work to fit my large scale under Flair (I have the 58 now). I also don't use too many different beans for espresso anymore. I dialed in a few, and stick to those. Regardless, it's a fun experiment.
Nice video, just pulled a great shot from my FP2 a few minutes ago. I'm still quite new to it, but I absolutely love this machine. btw I got the same grinder (Eureka Specialità).
After 2+ years and multiple espresso machines, I can say that for me Specialita is the best choice for espresso at home.
Kingrinder k4 is a good cheaper alternative for a flair-compatible grinder. Great shot at the end!
Вкусно?
I am very happy with you’re video. I have this grinder and I am happy with it. 👍🙏🤩🐕🙋🏼♂️🇳🇱✊☕️🇩🇪
I feel like an illegal drug user meticulously cooking up a shot. That’s cuz I’m a legal drug user.
I tried it. At first it did grind a lot finer and my coffee got a lot better, but after a few days coffee stopped coming out of the grinder. I guess the fine powder clogged it. I cleaned it and took out some of the washers which got me back to a not fine enough coffee. I wouldn't recommend this grinder to anyone wanting to grind for espresso. It's a poor choice.
I used it for over a year and it worked great for espresso
@@ruinerblodsinn6648I've used this grinder for 10 years now and it still grinds fine enough to choke my espresso machine.
Hello, i am grinding my beans by DF64 and around 26 to 27 grind size and espresso with gaggia classic pro also, can you share any tips why I don't get that thick crema? I am using fresh beans already. Thank you
Maybe waiting longer for the machine to heat up more could help.
