My friend Frankie Toler was the drummer for Gregg Allman band ( im no angel & just before the bullets fly ) & one Allman Brothers album ( brothers of the road) was recruited by Doug Gray but it was to be short lived as Frankie needed a liver transplant which took his life..I rode down to south Carolina with him & Doug Gray was one of the nicest cats you'd ever meet..RIP Frankie & long live the MTB.

Jones was a math guy - he probably knew / understood more about the logic of sound than 99% of rock guitarists and that percentage might be low. His ending his own life is one of rock music's great tragedies; a real shame for sure. RIP Billy Jones.

I saw The Outlaws with either The Pure Prairie League or Stillwater in 1978 in a monsoon and it was a killer show. Thanks for this great tribute to Billy, he was one of the best and as are most of the axemen in Skynyrd, MTB, Molly, ARS etc, all are sadly underrated and basically ignored by the music press.

You know as a fervent Outlaws fan…. You latch on to individuals that write tunes that grab you. With the O’s there was a lot to grab onto. All players were unique in there tunes and were easy to pick out whose song was who’s. Most aggressive tunes were Hughies, Country tunes Henry’s, Beautiful melodic tunes Billy’s. Funny how you pick up on things. If I were to make a comparison to his part in the band… He was the Timothy B Schmidt of the O’s. There is no doubt in my mind that it was his idea to go to the minor 7th in Freeborn man, and wow, you got aggressive and melodic! Sweet!!! Chris … I need help. I have never been able to figure out 2 chords in Prisoner. ( You’ll be mine and for sure). I’ve seen tabs, and I don’t think they’re right. Can you help a brother out. Sure wish I’d not given away all my vinyl… The band signed the Bringin em back alive for me at a promo in Reno Nevada where we had a Tucker/Outlaws/Allman band thing going. Miss those days. I live in SWF, and can’t find anyone that wants to do this. Anyway those 2 chords would mean a lot… Nice reminiscing, and a well done… overdue video! Thx

The life of Billy Jones was, as Harvey put it to me, very difficult. He was a sensitive man. I can see, by seeing him play in concert, that he was a great player and musician. What bothers me is, why did he decide to end it all? He was a contributing member of society, but obviously, had something bothering him. It saddens me, but that’s life.

In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. Sounds like they are both playing that intro in the same place higher on the neck. Then they switch to the harmony. Duane going up high. Then doing rhythm. I can still play it but not as fast as the recording. Got old and my fingers refuse to move as fast as my brain tells them. Still fun to play. They were all great feel good songs.
