How I would learn DE and HET (if I could start over)
Learning when to use "de" and "het" correctly is easily one of the biggest challenges for anyone starting out with Dutch. Here's how I would study it if I could do it all over again!

There are also tv news on npo3 at 18:00 in makkelijke taal. Though I found there is no big difference between that one and normal one as news channels talk clearly anyway
That's an interesting process! It's funny to see that EVERYONE starts with Duolingo, but it's unfortunately not the most efficient way to learn Dutch. If not to say the least. You're doing amazing!
Thank you very much for sharing this !
Echt goed! Je spreekt stuk duidelijker dan mij.
Are you Dutch or american? Cause you actually speak both languages perfect.
but why is the title af this video in french then you explain in english?
Can you estimate the time you spent daily in year one?
This is fantastic. Thank you
Ah this was great to watch! I am currently learning Dutch and looking to move there soon, to continue to work as an accountant as well! If you see this, I would love to know any resources to you had to learn the accounting terminology! My thought was to actually enroll in a college and take intro to accounting to start to do what I already know, and learn in an environment.
I am a native Dutch speaker, but I didn't even know the meaning of some of these expressions. Great job!
Just the video I needed! dankjewel💖
Thanks!
Wonderful, thank you so much. I like ONEYEARONWHEELS/eenjaaropwielen and Koen Brouwer's channel about tiny houses.
I'm learning Dutch right now, this is very helpful, dankjewell😊
Your Dutch is good enough to do most if not all things, so I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Just keep it up, and you're golden 👍.
Juf m is the channel i use 🥰
Wat mij opvalt is dat heel veel 'native speakers' hier hun reacties in het Engels geven, terwijl jouw Nederlands ontzettend goed is! Da's toch gek? 🤔
"In de aap gelogeerd zijn". This comes from a b&b for sailors in Amsterdam called "'t Aepjen". It was known being very dirty and infested with fleas etc. So if you spend the night there, you were "in de aap gelogeerd"
also, atleast here, daags na de mert (of iets in die richting weet niet precies hoe je het schrijft) basically days after the market can also be used for being too late to something, and op z'n elfendertigst basically meaning, doing something extremely slow or waiting till the last moment to do something
Ze kunen beter over je lullen dan van je vreten ;p
Ik praat niet engels , en ik probleem om Nederlands te leren . Ik zoek hulp
So, so helpful! Thank you so much! ❤
this is what I have been wishing to find for so long! :)
Where are you? Are you OK?
Hoppeta!
Kielekiele
That's great to learn Dutch...
You literally forgot Hanwe 😭 the entertainment channel
This is super helpful! Dank je wel!
Your Dutch is just charming. Jouw Nederlands is heel charmant.
It’s crazy the way you speak Dutch so fluently you learned it wel!
Joe spiek datsj ferrie wel
Ja Ja
Dankjewel ❤
You can often recognize a Dutch or Belgian person by the 'hè' instead of 'isn't it' at the end of an English sentence.
Samen een beschuitje eten? Of een ijsje?😊
thank you so much! this is so helpful!!
Thanks alot ❤ I followed you form Egypt 🇪🇬 ❤ I have a question. can you suggest for me a learning book for A1 and A2, please?😅 I need a book like a course 😊
As native speaker I learned de and het as a child; and your a right, for understanding it s not so important😊 Another rule; words starting with ‘ge’. also ‘het’: Het gebouw, het gevoel, het geloof, and so on ‘
The saying: "de laatste loodjes leggen" has a history. When a few centuries ago a family member died and you could not afford a proper funeral you went to the poor house, explained your situation and you got some "loodjes" (coins made of lead (lood)) and with it you went to the undertaker and there you gave it to him. Your family member was then buried without you having to pay.
this is extremely helpful, thanks so much for sharing with us all! I’m so excited to get started and learn dutch☺️🩷
You can do it.. je kan het. Can is kan. You is jij of jou. Do is doen. It is het. As you see and know the pronunciation of our Dutch words, you notice that it is all nearly the same.....that is dat. Is is is. The is de ( same pronunciation). All is allemaal ( all(emaal)). Light is licht. Book is boek ( same pronunciation), water is water, nail is Nagel, boat is boot ( same pronunciation), bread is brood ( oo is pronounced as in over), over is over, house is huis, mast, to drink is drinken, paper is papier, table is tafel, I is ik, he is hij ( pronounced as hi 👋), door is deur, lamp, beer is bier, glass is glas, pot, white is wit, work is werk, nose is neus, floor is vloer, you see.....very simple. Etcetera
it’s funny we got the same saying in france for "geen kip/ geen hond" we usually say "pas un chien" so geen hond but it’s not really proper to say either
8 minutes in, already 7 commercial breaks. 😮 This more feels like an American TV show than an enjoyable informative YT vid.
That 75% turns 95% nowadays if you wanna learn slang Dutch. Already back in the 90s I picked up things like "de meisje" en "deze dingetje". "Het" seems to be disappearing slowly. So does "u" by the way. Kids barely use it anymore and address everyone with "jij". I frankly wouldn't bother much with "het" if Dutch wasn't my first language. Don't believe the textbooks and your school too much. Just learn to speak like the locals. I'm in southern Spain now and my old spanish text books are basically useless here too.
Notably missing from the first section: Dutch & Go with Nout
Another great video that gives a lot of options and methods to learn Dutch. Yes, I had found Niels, so good on you to support him, but as you say it was quite sad to see the channel become inactive. But his videos are so excellent, they're worth watching again and again to drill in the rules of the Dutch language. Kim I had also found and am currently a paid student. Her approach is very fun and easy to follow. After that, everything is new to me so this was a fantastic overview of what's out there. Thanks!
Thank you😊
Nederlands staat in de top 3 moeilijkste talen daar vele worden en zelfs zinnen verschillende dingen kunnen betekenen ;)
Please don't stop making videos! 🙏
