Cause Thelonius Monk is considered rare psych/prog- that mustve been the confusion?

I've heard rumours that 'the other' Monk's apocryphal psychjazzprog opus is inscribed on a deteriorating master tape, secreted away in a vast 'Raiders Of The Lost Ark' styled Blue Note archive situated at a junction of ley lines somewhere in the Mojave desert. The label is written in Coptic script which is why nobody has identified it yet. Get digging! (Although earnestly I'd be quite excited to hear more trippy psych jazz weirdness a la Freddie Hubbard etc....!)

Great news this has been reissued! Certainly going to buy it. Out of curiosity: Was your acetate the one which was seriously cleaned up for this reissue?

This is amazing news! Thank you so much for keeping this album alive and the band in peoples memory! I remember when I first stumbled onto this upload a few years back, whilst on a very interesting experience with a "friend" called Lucy, and I ended up feeling such a way I've never felt before. Sat outside my little flat at about half 3am staring into the sky, the last cigarette left, watching the few trees in my neighbors back garden swaying in the early morning summer wind. The album ends up almost bringing me to tears whenever I hear it as a result of the experience, and to be able to own a physical copy to cherish and enjoy just fills me with such deep joy. Thank you again my friend!

Thanks for the inspiring words. I hope you pick up a copy of the reissue and preserve those golden musical memories in amber! It would be great if the originators of the Monk LP emerge from the shadows and eventually receive their dues for bringing us these instants of mystique and merriment from their crackly time capsule.

You don't need a download link to access it... Just use one of the free websites that lets you convert UA-cam audio to a downloadable MP3. Should only take a few minutes.

Thanks! The audio is from the dodgy English dub of 'Legend of a Fighter'! If you watch it, you'll see that the arrogant idiot picked the wrong guy to errrr... Fok with.

Not at the moment, sorry. Bit of a tricky one to value as well, since it's so under the radar.

Hi Andres, thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately the original mix had loads of holes shot through it due to copyright claims....so some of the more obvious tracks like 'Enter the Dragon' and a few of the more obscure bits (Bappi Lahiri's 'Karate') couldn't be included. So a big chunk of it is currently offline :( I didn't want to repost the mix with about 30 mins of it effectively on mute, so decided to go with a new edit so most of it could be enjoyed again.

Thanks Andres. May do a reggae one eventually, though buying all the records would be expensive! The old mix is still on UA-cam, but you just can't see it due to the copyright issues at the moment. Maybe they will eventually fall away and eventually it might become live again!

The intro is something I created myself ... if you need specific IDs, give me the timecodes and I can try and figure out what samples are in there. 'Drunken Master' is definitely one, along with the Shaw Brothers fanfare, of course ...

:04 secs - :19 secs (the song that plays at the absolute beginning!) It cuts off abruptly.... "Oh Oh Ohhhhhhh, Oh Oh OhhhhhOhhh" (That one) Lol Thanks for the response!

The 'oh oh oh ohhhs' you are referring to are from Carl Douglas's 'Kung Fu Fighting' - which is of course the biggest kung fu funk hit ever. Had to be included in the mix, albeit in a small way. I also included an instrumental version by a different artist at the end of the mix too.... In fact there are so many covers of this track, that you could fill a compilation or two.

Glad you like it! 56:00 is 'Kung Fu Is Dead' by 'The Sumos' which is an alias for El Chicles. Also released under the name of 'The Chinese Fighter' I recall. The album is probably one of the best kung fu funk exploito artifacts out there, and well worth a listen.

​@@StaaleSolbakken13 1:28:40 is Training Montage from the 'Battle Creek Brawl' soundtrack LP by Lalo Schifrin - a 1980 record that sounds more like '73. This track is also available on a handy and not overly expensive Japanese 45 too. 2:12:05 is 'Karate' by Bappi Lahiri. I think Bollywood OSTs are often one trackers, but in thids case - what a track!!!

Foi difícil chegar a uma conclusão, melhor ouvir a versão original, Nino Tempo & April Stevens: What are we stopping on this lonely way for ? Gee, it looks like my car's out of gas! Oh, no... Oh , yes !
