  • Much maligned punk artiste Rikki Sylvan's original debut album, originally slated for release in April 1978, on DJM records. Catalogue number DJF 20536 was assigned to this LP, as listed here: www.fonorama.cz...
This catalogue number was written on the sleeve of one of the test pressings of the album (see cover scan), which was located with a small cache of Rikki's other releases. A small icon which looks like a devil with lightning forks emanating from the side of its head - also included on the back cover of Rikki's solo LP - is etched into the dead-wax of this pressing, strongly linking it with the artist.
No copies of the LP were made commercially available, suggesting that DJM records shelved the record for unknown reasons.
'Radio Mercury' is a completely different release to Sylvan's self titled album on Kaleidoscope Records from 1981 - an all-instrumental cosmic synthesiser odyssey. If somewhat heavy on the Moog, it includes some interesting minimal tracks that hint at industrial textures and may present grounds for reappraising him as a synth pioneer, rather than a middle-class punk poseur. The soundclip here represents about 70% of the album.
Two of Sylvan's other releases - the 'Classics 1' library album and obscure 'Hartzeer' 12" - are also electronic efforts, so 'Radio Mercury' fits neatly into his existing discography. For the curious, information on Sylvan's studio and moog setup circa 1983 can be found here:

Only two copies of this test pressing are known to exist.
