The demise of towns all over the UK started with Thatcher and has been carried on by every government of both colours ever since. This is a deliberate policy by the ultra rich to steal as much as they can while they can. Not only Airdrie is affected by this.

How could you miss out on a detour to Whifflet? My old stamping ground … “Up the Street” as we used to call the Main Street was almost a foreign country! I remember when ASDA first opened - across from the Whimpy Bar! And the Mint was the trendiest bar in town - the old Royal Bank with the wooden revolving doors.

Airdrie is a dump now. The so called town centre is worse than Sauchiehall St...As for the local Hospital - keep your face mask on as its like "Stars in your Eyes" - you will cut through the amount of fag smoke awaiting you at the main entrance...no one can be arsed to read the signs "No Smoking"... I am sure you will be greeted with a toothless ciggie smile and a bottle of Buckie when you visit (at your own peril).

Great to see the place again, haven't been in Ayr in almost 30 years, have to give it a wee visit at some point 👍

I have lived in Airdrie all my life, it's an absolute disgrace now, it was once full of thriving shops, the closing of Boots factory and closing the twice weekly outdoor market was the start of its demise, it's so sad.

Thanks for that, about 55 yrs since I did that walk, spent all my childhood round the lochs on the boats and fishing, anybody remember the big tree on the right at 17.30 in? Used to have a big swing on it for us kids to play on. Thanks again for the memories.

Going g into the bus terminal at the top cross. Used to wait there for the Whitehall bus to take me back home to my mum when I visited from Canada. Primary was at the cross and I used t I get from the royal bank cash machine. I'll health stops me from coming home but home is in my heart and will be til the day I die. Thank you just wish there were words to go with video.
