How This Music Artist Makes Six Figures In 2023 | I Can't Believe It!
INSTANTLY: YOU CAN TELL THAT MARK IS A GENUINELY LOVELY MAN👍🙏
Thank you so much for your tips! I'm thinking of starting doing this too. But I have a question: Can I submit the same songs to all of those sites because they're non-exclusive or do I have to upload different songs to different sites? I'm quite new in the whole royalty thing.
Nope that's the beauty of it. All the same songs can be put on all the different nonexclusive libraries
Looks like Pond5's newest contributor agreement is cutting our dataset earnings (for music) down to 20%. It used to be 35%. It also looks like other content is being affected as well. This sucks. Was looking forward to another big payday.
Was it 35% or was that the percentage of sales?
@@MakeMusicIncome Check your email. Pond5 sent one out detailing the percentage cut. Apparently we're now going to start earning royalties, similar to ASCAP or BMI, when content is used commercially. We'll see how that goes. I'm not holding my breath lol. For music creators, any music sold from Datasets, we were paid out 35% from the total sale from the revenue our music library was sold for. Due to us now getting royalties from the music, regardless if it's datasets or otherwise, any music sold in datasets is now cut back to 20%. I'd usually call it a win, but you know Pond5, it's likely they'll be dipping their hands in our royalty earnings as well.
I should be crossing 200+ tracks in sync soon, still working on getting faster and better!
Excellent!
I engrave music on FINAL or DORICO. Lead sheets or Piano vocal. Affordable and quick turnaround
Look at some of the greatest artists they dont last 10 years in music.
It's so helpful. Thank you.
You are welcome! Good luck!
Made it 20 years so far, but having a hard to sticking with it lately.
It's not easy! But don't give up!
Message received!
Thanks! I am not concerned about monetizing but in protecting my music from being content ID'd fraudulently. I have heard of this happening. I understand my original music is protected legally and I can prove I registered my songs first with MLC, BMI etc., if someone claims my song as theirs first through content ID I could be in a tough situation. I also could be in a situation where I don't even know it's happening. I am trying to only release on UA-cam and quit doing the CD Baby thing. What are your thoughts on this? I hope I am missing something.
I don't get releasing only on UA-cam? Why not release to streaming?
@@MakeMusicIncome Because I can no longer communicate with CDBaby. After years of working with them with no issues, I now get no response. It has been going down hill for the past couple of years. I currently have an album uploaded but have a couple of unanswered questions now for well over 4 weeks. I don't like the idea of if a real issue came up what would happen not being able to get through. I also would rather just focus on one platform for now anyway. I guess to rephrase my question, how easy is it for another youtuber to content id my original music? I have heard of this happening and would like to know ways to prevent that without going through a distributor for now. Thanks.
@@MakeMusicIncome I just want to hold off on that for now. I guess my main questions is how easy would it be for someone to place content ID on my original music if I have not done it myself or through a distributor first. I have heard of it happening but not sure how real that is.
Hi Eric. I've tried Audimee and it's great. However, what do you think about stock / sync libraries allowing its use? I asked Motion Array and they said they don't allow any tracks with AI vocals. Great Video. Thanks
And yet they offer AI voiceover now. Hmmm. But no library should allow AI generated tracks. However they could have their own AI generation for clients.
Keep on playing brother in music, subbed
Great presentation Eric👍👍
Thank you, Tony
I’m surprised that people saying “i really want to be an artists/composer” etc and don’t know that they need to actually have music 😂I mean the making music bit is one of the best parts of being a musician. If a person is focused on making TikToks, marketing and trying to make money but don’t/cant make music then I think they are probably focused on the wrong things and not likely to be successful in the creative music space. Maybe they would be better of focusing on music marketing (which is definitely something worth pursuing) Maybe those sorts of people love the idea but are afraid to put themselves out there? Or are not willing to learn how to make music.
i decided to be an exclusive artist on audiosparx. got every track up. loving it.
seems to be cool
So I actually made a decent amount of money, selling beat leases and sound kits and sending out melody loops for major placement opportunities but what I found very quickly is that most scumbags will just pirate your stuff and not credit you. I am owed thousands in royalties LOL. I pretty much recommend people just don’t try to make music their main source of income
Beats is a whole Different business that I just have not been comfortable getting into.
#truth #noexcuses
Hey Eric, do you know if i can use Identifyy’s Content ID, while using Songtrust as my publishing administrator, if i have opted out of Songtrust’s Content ID? Will it cause conflicts or no?
If you have opted out of song trust content ID, then you can use identifyy all you want.
@@MakeMusicIncome Thank you for answering! Do you use Songtrust and if so, have you had any problems with using identifyy content id and not songtrust’s, ?
I have been stuck on Processing for months since March and still not processed what a waste of money
That stinks!
@@MakeMusicIncome it's more than stink it's wicked and evil to do people that
question about content ID -- with Identifyy, there seems to be a maximum of 10 minutes. what is the best avenue for content ID for songs longer than 10 minutes?
I don't really know about that sorry!
How do I know if my music is already copyrighted on identifyy? When uploading the music on identifyy it counts in the status as "delivered" but when uploading a video with my music on you tube the standard UA-cam claim message doesn't appear. This is worrying me. Thank you in already.
That's not really what Content ID is for. It's for claiming when OTHER people use your song. Is your music uploaded to streaming services? It would need to be for a claim to happen.
Hi, how can I see if my music is claming? Because I have some songs aproved in identifyy but I can not see the UA-cam massage Copyright calming bellow the videos that use my music like I used to see if I upload my song in a music distributor? Do you know if its normal? Or if still going to claim? Because its been just a week that I upload my song! Thank for share your knowledge with us.
I don't think you can.
Awesome content as always Eric, I couldn't catch this live this time. Time management is a thing. Take care and have a great weekend! :)
Thanks Buddy!
because making music takes time and effort, and the time invested is valuable, it is money. If you give your music and receive little or nothing in return, you are giving away your time, your effort and your money.
That's why those of us who are seasoned professionals tell anybody with that kind of attitude in your comment, to just quit music.
LOL. Right.
Or if they CAN quit...they probably should.
Yes, but what if that valuable music is never heard by anyone. If a song sits in a hard drive, does it make a sound?
@@MakeMusicIncomeexactly
Inspirational! but question, for the rejected sample emails that you've share with us in the later part of the video, do you wait to be be approved/rejected per song submission? or do you submit a package of multiple songs for approval? My second question is, what governs honesty standards among these libraries, I mean what are the chances that you submit good piece of music but they reject it but still include it elsewhere or somewhere as their own work or as creative commons. How can you keep track of your music pieces and their use on the internet by other artists/user/platforms?
What governs honesty in any profession? At some point you are trusting the company knows what it's doing right?
Do you have trouble being too "precious" with your music? Let us know in the comments. Also, 50% off our courses until Monday at midnight! payhip.com/MakeMusicIncome
The thing is, the wast majority of people are not music producers, and they’ll be fine with it
For sure...
Hi there again. When you say songs, does a song need to be three minutes or less like the record days or is there styles of song that are more popular like pop or dance?. I do have hundreds and hundreds of “ideas”that a percentage goes into a song but when I write stuff, I often finish it and think it’s not stacking up to professional produced songs. Hence why it’s an expensive and time consuming hobby rather than a job lol
I'd say just about any song these days that you hope will have commercial success either in licensing or on streaming, probably needs to be under three minutes for the people who have no attention fans. Which is everyone.
Hi Eric, thank you for sharing this valuable information. Do you recommend registering songs with a P.R.O. before submitting to MA? I’m just getting started with MA as a composer/creator. I’m curious about this since users have option to filter the music library for “only PRO registered” and “exclude PRO registered”. Thanks for any info you can share!
I absolutely do recommend registering with your PRO as you put songs into pond, five and motion, array and other stock licensing sites. The reason is that television now will go out and find cheap music and put it on a network cable show and you'll make $2500. This happened to me. Go back and look at my videos about making very large sum of money from one streamed download from motion array. The reason I got that money is because I registered that song with BMI and I include my BMI numbers when I upload to motion array.
Thank you so much!
Hey! Thanks for the info, is really valuable!. I already have my tracks with another Non-Excluisve company, but I have a couple of questions. Do I need to change the name of the tracks when I submitting to Pond5? Do I need to register those songs on ASCAP or Pond5 do it for you?
No to name change. But yes to registering your songs on ASACAP.
@@MakeMusicIncome Thanks! You rock! :)
i honestly think in the future people wont care if AI made it or a human made it.
Well, most music listeners don't care now. Because they don't even think about that. Only us musicians do.
Great video! I'm curious if I should make an account under my name or my artist name? I have two albums out which are under my artist name but recently just finished a project for a docu-series which will be credited to my real name (two previously released tracks from artist projects are also in use). Which I guess brings me to my net question, should we add music that's already been released or is being used to our profiles or should the music always be stuff that is available for sync? For example the music I made for this docu-series would be great to showcase my work however it's tied up with the project for three years. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
You will likely have to sign up with your real name, but you can use any email you want to and any brand. Remember, disco is for showing music off, showing off your discography. You use it to show people your work like you would sending them to SoundCloud except this is nicer and no ads and things.
@ Ok great, was worried I had to make a bunch of fresh music just to start a Disco profile. The dock-series alone is 18 tracks so it would have been sad to not be able to showcase them. Thanks for the help!
After distributing my music through LANDR, RouteNote, or other platforms, if someone uses my music on their channel, which is not monetized (e.g., 500 subscribers), but ads are shown on their videos due to high views, will I still earn money or royalties from my music? Please reply
If you have registered with a content ID service like identifyy.
@MakeMusicIncome actually I am from india it's not available in india and if I resister in other platforms like landr, routenote, distrokid, and also my previous question please is it yes or no
Hi Eric, I just tried to get my music on 123RF, but I've been surprised that they don't accept P.R.O members, is it true? I think it's a very tough rule, isn't it?
From what I understand that has been a loose restriction. I am in 123RF, I am also in BMI.
@MakeMusicIncome I hope that, but every time you upload a track, you have to mark the box indicating that you aren't a P.R.O
I literally started looking up places and have found decent ones. I see why most don’t say the names now in the video. Their not hiding
Thank you for making this. I am starting to look into doin sync. This is very helpful and useful. I believe I can be successful at this have thousands of lyrics and couple hundred compositions need to tighten up. Helps to know there may be a home for them in the future
Just know it is a very long game, not unlike investing.
@@MakeMusicIncome I'm aware. I'm also an artist so might make do that instead. Half the battles getting started.
Well my thinking is to focus in 2 genres and specialised in this. Drama music and Documentary music(Vangelis style). What is your opinion in this? Thank you so much for your informations.
Sounds good to me!
Great Stuff Eric! Thank you!

FESPACO February '25 Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso Thank you
The answer is no, not anymore. I have hundreds of tracks in Pond5 and other sites and maybe meet the threshold once per quarter. Exclusive libraries are where the money is.
Agreed. You need to come on the Podcast for chat!!!
@MakeMusicIncome I'm down! I think we talked about that a while back. Let me know when you want to do it.
I’m new to licensing joined audiosparx had two sales and 53 playlist placements in only 5 months. I’m exclusive, featured, and hot new artist. 310 tracks all metadata done. Working really well for me now thanks mate
I have 26 songs on Pond5 and I go $55 for Datasets. I was stoked! So I try to add a song a day now.
Nice!
Can you please help me do some of this?
Sure email makemusicincome@gmail.com.
$0.51. I'm opted OUT and yet they still sell it.
Eric, thank you for you video! Thankfully to your course I've found a library and for the last 3 months I was writing an album for them. Ten songs are ready now and approved. Currently I am waiting for contract details. All that became possible after your course. Thank you one more time! Wishing everyone success through learning and taking right steps towards the set goals.
That is fantastic news. I am so glad the course in class helped you. Thank you for this report and I will let people know. Good luck with the album and onto the next.!
Thanks for sharing
Speaking on the Sweetwater monitors segment: I've had Adam Audio, Focal, Yamaha and Dynaudio. Not cheap. And my favorite monitors have been the Mackie MR624 $300. So so good. Put that together yall. You don't need to spend through the roof.
Thanks!
