Gardener Gray
United Kingdom
Приєднався 18 січ 2023
Welcome to Gray's Gardening, my name is Gray. I've created this channel to bring to you all of the gardening tasks that I am doing throughout the year as and when they happen. There will be Gardening jobs for every week, month and season of the year. This may be pruning, planting seeds, potting on, renovation, tidying, repairing or simply harvesting the fruits of my labour.
I will be filming videos predominantly from my allotment but also my own family home garden and I want you to watch what I am doing in order to help you on your gardening journey.
I am no Monty Don or Alan Titchmarsh but I will share with you many tips and techniques that I have built up over the last 20 years of amateur gardening in the UK. This is allotment gardening UK
I hope you enjoy these videos, so please feel free to drop any comments, questions or video requests and I will get straight back to you.
Many Thanks
Gray

Your pond is look great brother!
I have also planted lotus flower plant.
Great 👍
You should have removed the white connector at the base of your bunches of anacharis. They will do much better free floating instead of tied together.
@@caroldragon7545 Thanks Carol. I was actually wondering if I was meant to. I'll pop down the plot and remove them 👍
Thanks for this ❤ I started the bag potatoes method a few weeks ago there flowering now
Hello! New here! Came over from Anne Heynes channel! Thansk for sharing your garden. Subbing, would love to have you as a subbie friend 🤗
Great video again Gray. Great to see Charlotte too. Maybe wear ling sleeves next time when picking nettles! Impressive banana trees and pups too!
@@user-xm9vr4pt6h yeah long sleeves might be the way to go 👍
Nice work Gray, love your pond, great tips with the Musa, I will be separating some of mine, I counted 16 pups, just waiting for some to get a little bigger before I separate them.
@@AmirsAllotment Thanks Amir, good luck with yours, I'll be catching up on your latest VLOG later 👍
Good job Charlotte 👍. My melons 🍉 didn’t survive the heat 😢 but I’ll try again next year. Silly question do banana trees get bananas 🍌? Great update Gray have a super day, Ali 🌞🇨🇦
@@myrustygarden Hi Ali, some parts of the UK have reported getting bananas if we have a really long warm summer, definitely won't be this year 😞. But once they do produce the fruit, they die, hence sending out the pups. I just grow mine for the foliage though. Take care 🌱🌿🌾
Nicely timed as my Banana is around 4 foot diameter of older plants and want to remove pups as we are moving house. Great rvideo thanks
@@sowgroweat6987 good luck, glad it helped
Excellent ! Loving the pond . I so need a pond . I managed to get a couple of Musa Basjoo pups , but they will need to be sheltered over winter as a bit too small just yet .Maybe plant them out next year . 😊Nice to see that you involving a little helper . 🌿🌿🐌🐌Charlotte did a great job too putting in the pond plants and pond creatures 🐌🐌🌿 Well done ! 💐⭐⭐⭐⭐
@@DaisyDebs Thank you so much 😊
Lovely pond- i've been contemplating making a pond in my garden and hope to start by January, banana trees look good☺
@@AnneHeyns go for it. The wildlife will thank you for it t🌞
Thanks again Gray. Just wondering whether the tubing has to be serial in one line, or can one take spurs (branches if you like) from the main tubing with Irrigatia's extension kit? BTW, that kit appears to have a different dripper design - not sure why. On the 24 system I bought last week, there were a few burrs left from the plastic moulding process on the drippers which blocked the water on a couple of them. No problem to sort it out, but it pays to monitor them all to ensure uniform water flow at the outset. Best wishes, and thanks for your informative videos.
@@AntPDC Hi there, I think you can get splitters i.e like a T-bar which then allows the flow to go separate ways. I didn't receive any with mine but previous models had them. Maybe ask Irrigatia. Yeah I think a few of mine had a loose piece of plastic attached at the end. As you say, easy to sort. Hope it all works well for you. Happy Gardening 😊
Figs are awesome!
My wife and I always enjoy the before and after weeding a raised bed. Keep it up brother ❤
Hey Grey! It’s great to see more people using grow bags for potatoes. Keep up the great work mate. Love from California.
@@GardeningwithDave thanks Dave. They are so much easier than directly in the ground 😁
Good Job, keep going.
Hi, do you know hw long it will take until it starts dripp, I can not see the water yet...?
Hi, it should start as soon as it's switched on, unless it's not charged. Are the numbers showing on the display?
@@GardenerGray I can see the number but no water..I am at work now but will check if it has started later tonight
Hope it works for you 🤞
You do have lots of things growing that we don't see very often, well done and enjoy the potatoes. ♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.
@@terrykingsallotmentgardening cheers Terry and happy gardening indeed. Potato's we're lovely Thanks 👍
Superb 👏
We harvested some of ours and they were delicious 😋 nothing better than fresh. Lots of figs 😮. Can you take cuttings from that vine or do they have to be different?Great update Grey 👍, Ali 🌞🥵🇨🇦
Hi Ali, which vine? The kiwi's?
@@GardenerGray yes

Great video Gray, your allotment looks great, I must get a banana plant, they make it look so tropical. The birdsong at the end sounded lovely too.
I'll dig you one out. Will look lovely in your garden
Love the video!! And I hope you like my edit i made of it 😁😁😁
Hiii I love ur video 😁😁
Interesting video, thanks Gray. I'm going to check my tomatoes but they're outside so may be behind yours. I need to get to work on the bind weed in my Borders, pretty flowers but I wondered what it was!
Remember a weed is just a plant in the wrong place. Bind weed can look lovely when in flower and not choking everything else to death 😧
Cattail? (Typha) Grows in very wet locations, like shallow ponds, edges of lakes. Interesting item! Usually people have flag iris in their ponds. The cattail has a much wilder, rustic feel to it. Very nice
Think you're right. Thank you 😊
I enjoyed spending time on your plot with this video! I'm jealous of your fruit trees and pond! Out of curiosity, is there a reason you didn't direct sow the new batch of courgette seeds? I would think your weather now would be okay with putting a seed directly in the ground.
Hi, thank you. I probably could direct sow but just worried about the slugs, plus they should germinate quicker in the greenhouse
Bulrush
Think it might be the cattail although won't know for certain until late summer 🌞
Hi. I have had stem rot on the melons Im growing. They dont like water around the neck, rotted and snuffed it. Im watering from below now. I dont know if you've had this with yours? Elaine 🌱
They seem ok this year but I've definitely had it before. Great advice though, I'll make sure to water around rather than directly on the stem 👍

this is the first year ever my courgettes have failed. peat free , plant free
Definitely due to the weather I think. Thanks for watching 😊
You'll have lots to harvest over the coming months. Fabulous update.
unfortunately happens all the time.just don't let it get you down.mines been broken into several times over the years set a few traps but the only person who got caught out was me !never put locks on now apart from the main gate.
So sad that we have to tho isn't it. I never lock my shed because there's nothing of value inside. It's the damage that is really annoying

If you would like to buy the Irrigatia Automatic Solar watering system, here is my Amazon Affiliate link.... amzn.to/3pNTTV7
Rabbits are such a pest. To make it rabbit proof you need to dig down about a foot, make a trench and put the fencing in from there - then wire sticking outwards at right angles. They try and burrow down by the fence, but the horizontal wire stops them. We have vole pests, but rabbit proof. Good luck.
Uh oh. Didn't think of that. I'll see how it goes but may have to try that next year. Thank you 😊
Interesting fruits coming along nicely. Thanks for your sub, I'm afraid I've not done any films for a while - maybe I should - there's an awful lot of changes here! Your allotment looks great too. Been a difficult couple of years weatherwise, so perhaps that has had an effect on a few of your plants.
Great video Gray!
Cheers ears
Please dont plant the gunnera in the ground. Now classed as a invasive plant in the uk
Really. Oh wow, didn't know. Thanks for the tip 👍
Nice one Gray! 😊
Hi mate, where you been? When's the next update?
@@GardenerGray 😉 just not had time to capture footage! And... the kids and the dog have taken to crashing the party up the allotment with the better weather 😂
@@happydigging better weather!!!! I'm still waiting 😭
Hello! New sub! The suckers coming up at the base of my North Star cherry always looked like mulberry branches to me, and now I know why! Mulberries grow like weeds here (Wisconsin USA, Zone 5) and I'll bet they used the indestructible mulberry rootstock to make the North Star cherry tree more durable. My tree is somewhat brittle the older it gets. Big and Brittle! fantastic lol i grabbed a limb and pulled it down with one hand to pick off some cherries with the other hand and the whole branch broke off and I went smack down on the lawn. It hurt! Otherwise it's a very handsome, glossy tree on its own. Very pretty tree. Made more good looking by removing all the ugly suckers.
Those pesky suckers. Hope you're ok now. Thanks for the comment and the sub 😊
Looks like Logan berries
Thanks Anne. Hopefully they'll ripen soon 😊
Very nice sharing
Thanks for visiting
Good morning friend 😊 Have a blessed day 😊
Thank you. You too 😊
My advise would be to keep the wire on all through the growing season because first year I grew sweet corn rats ate corn just as it was ready to harvest on my plot 😡so now I cover it fully every year with wire cage
Great advice. Ok it's staying put . Thanks 👍
Never heard of a franberry have to look into them are they as sweet as strawberry’s?
Hi, yes they taste very similar to a strawberry, possibly even sweeter but much smaller and rounded. If you Google Framberry you'll see them..... Or I'll include in my next update if they ripen in time. 😊
Hope your arm is all healed. How’s the addition doing? Great update Gray it’s not all good news where with all the rains and slugs 🤦♀️ but hopefully some great sunny days will recover things. Have a great week, Ali 🌧️🌧️🇨🇦

Hi. Thank you for your kind words. I try to share what I have learnt over the years
Hi Gray. I appreciate you taking the time to teach me more about growing grapes (first time, wish me luck). My wife and I purchased a few plants from a local business earlier this year, and I have already propagated a few cuttings😍. So far most of plants in my garden are doing well with 100% compost, but I wasn't sure if the same would apply for grapes. Your garden is looking amazing by the way! Love from California brother.
Thank you and I'm glad it's helping. Happy gardening 😁
