Axe

So far, it's just my approach to firewood, the trees it comes from and the tools I use.
ASMR. Tuatahi Work Axe. Black Walnut.
Piece no 2 was knotty and sticky. After that smooth splitting.

Basic splitting large rounds of wood. In this case Ash.
Переглядів 3,2 тис.7 місяців тому
A quick demonstration on how to split a typically sized round of hardwood. Also a good example on how wood can act unexpectedly. I am swinging the Gransfors Bruk Splitting Maul today. The Second round I set up actually acts right! Also a point of clarification: I mention how the short side of the wood from the pitch can split easier. It can also be a booger and the long side be the easier one. ...
Splitting checked wood.

Sometimes it takes me a while to split up the rounds or I am given some that have been sitting. Checked wood is a little harder to split but this was manageable. #firewood #cherry #hickory

Time to get a splitter
Nice Axe. Greetings from Germany Peter Husqvarna-Pit
👍👍😀😀
Was your axe strait? I bought the smaller size than that and the actual bit was wavy like it was bent or not forged strait. It had a very distinct s curve from toe to heal. I would like to have one in my repratoir, but I had to send this one back and now I'm not sure if it was just my luck or if this is the norm now and just no one notices these imperfections
@@tjpighin I have two and the bits are perfect. I would love to have more from them.
Rookie never split over another piece of wood that's how you break your handle
Mr. Axe, is the rooster(s) yours? Excellent work today without a single word. I did hear a gravel road/drive and a woodpecker/hen...good evening to you sir...
The sounds of the country are all around!
@axe1796 in view of John's comment, you humbly and quietly dominate the Tuatahi splitting genre with the axe you hafted in this video... You "handle" it well sir...
It splits like a dream..
Niiiiice 👍👍
That axe is one of my favorites 👍
Excellent session sir...agreed on the house axe...
Outstanding 👍
Очень узкий, им только рубить. Колун должен быть толще, чтобы разрывать чурбак.

Those pieces are perfect for chunks. I take those fill up a bucket with chunks and sell them by the bucket. Some people with smaller bbq pits like smaller pieces.
I added a bunch to the charcoal barrel
does your watch ever get on your nerves when youre splitting? mine does for me, maybe a new nylon strap will fix the issue
No but I wear it loose. What got on my nerves was having my phone in my pocket and pulling it out to see what time it was..
👍🏽👍🏽
Nice Axe .... Greetings from Germany Peter Husqvarna-Pit 😎
Better to use an ax with a wide mouth... Greetings from Germany.😊
I’m having to do the same thing. The house I bought has a lot of older trees that are beautiful, but heavy rains and storms cause limbs to fall. It’s a great workout
Maybe they imported dogwood to make a cross... 😂😂😂
Dogwood is number 5 on the btu chart I looked at. I know of a particular tree that breaks the stereotypes of a dogwood being a small tree... I found the conversation enjoyable, humorous, and insightful. I am a noisy neighbor at times, actually they "check" on me if the axe is not echoing or the saws screaming...that has to be aggravating...excellent session sir, I enjoyed it...
for all of the custom axes out there and ones ive gotten, i honestly think my GBAFA is the nicest looking and best overall. great video
Thanks! Agree, it's the one I keep the sharpest. Never disappoints.

How is this at chopping and do you know if there is a queue where are you have to wait before pre-ordering
It's a great chopper, probably better at that than a splitter! They historically have a year or two wait.
I got a question for you. I’ve noticed that you have both the forest and the splitting ax. I have their finnish splitting maul on order. Do you feel like getting a splitting ax In addition to the maul would be a waste of money? I was looking for more of an all-arounder to go with the splitting maul
@@blakeg7062 Hey! I have swung the splitting maul in country. It's big but not super heavy. Hard to say without knowing how you plan to use them. For cutting up trees into rounds with a saw, I would recommend one of the felling axes to compliment it. The splitting axe punches above it's size but a feller gives you more flexibility. That all being said, if all you are doing with any of them is splitting cut rounds, then the splitting axe would be my pick.
That was larger than I figured, thanks for the fully qualified demo on the Gransfors Bruk SSA! I will have to use two arms and hands at all times.
Black walnut makes great wood stocks.
I have been watching many of your videos featuring the WORK AXE. I like your channel and the way you conduct yourself, especially with criticism in the comments. Excellent control is demonstrated with the axe and your conduct...well done sir...
Damn I thought this was AVE chopping wood. Was waiting for witty Canadian quips 😂 gotta get my eyes checked
Why are you splitting it so small? Most of that I would have only quartered.
I am making some cooking wood out of the hickory and just making regular sized stuff out of the oak, I save big pieces for the knotty ones.
Set this to music
Uuhuuu 👍
That's the hardest I've seen you work. Sometimes when a piece gives you a problem like that flip it end over end and it'll go. What's the worst big ash or big sycamore or hickory?
Well I've never split too big sycamore but I would think that would be the worst of those three. Ash should be easier than this stuff and hickory just behind that.
Now that was a bit of a workout 👍😄
Piece put up a good fight
Nice ax, greetings from Germany Peter
Interesting Idea to use this Axe for small Wood. Might need one too :D
I noticed it stuck a few times but you got it free easily enough along polishing do you oil the axe?
Just a little 3 in 1 wipe down from time to time.
Heyy You can tell that the axe is razor sharp... Do you use some special stone for sharpening or...?
No, my bro makes knives and when I wants one extra sharp I let him take care of it. That being said, some 400-800 sand paper and a leather strop with some polishing compound can really touch it up nicely.
Niiiiice 👍
Would hate to lose a persimmon that big.
yeah, the loggers around here just don't take the time to try and avoid collateral damage.
I'm impressed😲 nice vid,axe looks very durable for 'small' splits🤠
My favorite species of wood for firewood and bbq since it is light dries quickly and smells awesome when splitting and burning
Nice man... old school topic forsure... I've come across some really "Tall" rounds that would really open up to this method. I wish I had some thick Cherry rounds like that. Got myself some thinner stuff but it's beautiful none the less.. Thanks again
I'll have more big ones from this cherry in the next one.
Please get a "Dead Cat" for your Mic !!
Hey Do you sharp your steel wedges or it is not necessary?
Hey! 1. It's not necessary, in the way that a maul doesn't have to be sharp. That being said, I would rather always have a sharp axe/maul than a dull one. 2. I do sharpen them when I clean off the chunks that mushroom on the striking end but never to any crazy level. Steel wedges often drive through the rounds into the ground, and too fine of an edge will just get dented or chipped. Also, I have to stack wedges and they bang off each other from time to time... A nice convex edge, like on an axe is good but no need to pop hairs.
@@axe1796 Thanks 👍👍
Nice. Meditative. Not entirely unlike the lotus mantra - set up and intuitively understand the wood (om), splitting of the round (padme), revealing the energy and rings of the wood (mani), wood stacked away (um) - repeat. lol, not ‘really’ a Buddhist, just like to split wood.
Seemed a little too sticky out of the box I just widened it up a bit looking forward to trying it again when I get home
Hey there nice beautiful red oak cheers 🥂🤙🏻
