Restoring my '66 Lincoln Continental - Intro and Teardown Part 1
good show chap, i plan on doing to my blown rack, do you like it?
Nice job!
That 462 engine is such a smooth powerful motor , 😢
A v8 is inherently imbalanced, and 400hp is pretty attainable with this drivetrain, not to mention extra 3 gears the transmission will have, and the room to work on it, and I’ll get closer to 25mpg and have gearing to cruise 80mph.
I had a 66 then a 63
what did you end up cutting a bit confused by looking to do this on mine
I had to get the old rubber joint out. I’ve seen a few different ways to separate it. The angle grinder with a cutoff wheel was mine.
what multigauge port was that?
On the ecu?
@@shed_mfg the usb/volt meter that replaced the cigarette lighter.
@@kamathedaniel oh, just type usb volt meter into Amazon, eBay or similar. It’s generic and I don’t know what brand mine is.
@@shed_mfg thanks. great content btw
Blank cluster 3D print is what I need
Oh gotcha makomotorsport.com/ www.powertunedigital.com/
Links?
It should work with a links ecu. Just select the ecu you have at checkout.
One advise never use a drill to temove the bolts 😅 lazy ass
Saw you gave up on the rack tab spacers... so did I. Ended up just getting some washer and making it work.
Oh no I used them, just had em on the wrong side and had to remove temporarily to put them on the correct side.
Hello what z3 model is recommended to use steering rack from?
I believe any of the 2.8/3.0 cars had the quickest ratio. Of 2.7 turns lock to lock.
Can you give me the details on the rims?
20” knock off wire wheels. You can get universal (left and right hand threaded) adapters for the hubs of most vehicles.
@@shed_mfgthanks for the reply! What width?
@@heatherhenry9745 it’s an 8” wheel with a 225 width tire on it. Not sure on offset (or even how it’s measured on wire wheels)
@@shed_mfgthank you! Great videos!
Nice work
Been dying to do this to my e30 so glad seeing someone do it, how wiring in the fuel level? That was the only thing holding me back. What year is ur e30?
It was pretty easy (relatively) I pulled the oem connector, and the fuel tank access panels and continuity tested to find the wire that went to the senders, and then ohm tested to find the not low fuel wire. Then you get a programmable speedhut USA gauge, and drive with a 5gal can in the trunk until you run out, set low value on gauge, fill up at your nearest convenience, set high value on gauge. Mint.
I loved the no power steering in my truck. But it did have a much larger wheel! Nice vid.
I have a 63 on 20s and im wanting to do this but i dont have a shed with a lift 😂. Trying to decide what kit to buy.
The shed with a lift is pretty choice, you can get pretty low but not on the ground without any modifications. This kit is do able on jack stands.
cool build! im loving the process
Hey can you give us the link for the kit you are using
like and subbed, cant wait to see this done, great video and explanations, and not boring either. I learned a lot!
When in the hell did you figure all this crap out? I'm assuming Dave taught you something, but I'm not aware of him dabbling in slammed suspension cars!🤔😎
@@shed_mfg very scientific! Lol
I did in fact have literally nothing else to do for 20 minutes and i’m not disappointed. this thing is looking so rad dude
Hi Shed! Do you have to remove any fuel lines before removing the float bowl cover? Thank you for your time!
No but make sure the fuel shutoff is in the “off” position! Or you’ll drain the tank.
Nice good to know, thanks! Love the content! Cheers!
What’s that on jw I bout do four link kit for my Jeep i hope this not where I end up
Finally another video, I been waiting so long.🎉
Excited to see this one come together
Good stuff dude! Loving the build so far. Just a tiny point. If you are going to do a time-lapse maybe instead of explaining what you are going to do beforehand do an explanation over the time-lapse footage to keep the video shorter and viewer retention up. (Not a criticism though, I enjoyed watching.)
Nice work keep it at ,liking the quality going into this lead sled !!!
When will the next episodes be coming out on the Lincoln? I have a 69 Lincoln 4 door also looking forward to the complete restoration process. Great job so far.
Probably the next week or two. We are getting the last footage together.
excellent video! Just about to freshen the suspension on my 930, a car I'm just becoming familiar with, you showed exactly the info I was looking for....
Do you have a diagram of how you wired the quad spark?
No, I searched multiple sources and found a couple megasquirt forums and kinda took a stab at it. If you message me on instagram I can send pictures, videos and talk you through it pretty easily.
I want to learn this tool as well as the English wheel. Let me know if there is a day you don’t mind me bringing som metal over
Whenever, I’m in here a lot…
I might consider removing my vacuum lines also. I am told my engine will not run right without it. I have a 430. I do know the brakes do not work well without the vacuum hoses connected.
If any of you guys have cars that run I would like to know what type of gas you use? I use 93. I also have a 430 cu engine and I am unsure about how and where a few of the hoses run. My car is on the old vacuum system and I am still learning about it. I replace the hoses in the engine bay and I still have to replace the ones under the dash. They say if they are not replaced the engine will not run right. My engine was rebuilt. So was the transmission. I drive my car and after about 6 miles or so it starts to run hard. It may be the vacuum lines, but I also have a few hose attachments I have no clue about. Also, I just noticed a leaking fuel tank when it was full. Do you know of a replacement tank that may be compatible? Also, I have had my car for 15 years and I just got it running somewhat ok. It's a long story.
Ok, so I’m swapping my engine for an om606 (straight 6 Mercedes diesel that’s getting a big turbo) but I’m more than familiar with old carbed v8’s. So my approach has always been, scrap the ticker pump on the block, get a Holley red, a new Holley carb, cap every vacuum line except the brakes and distributor, get a fuel pressure gauge and regulator that you can adjust and if you’re feeling fancy an aem wideband afr gauge to see where your jetting is (too rich or too lean).
And subscribe for more Lincoln content!
I run an electric pump now. I had a Holley pump and carb. The pump I destroyed by accident when cleaning my tank. The Holley carb I still have but it kept flooding at the time so I swapped it for an Edelbrock. No issues so far. I may go back to the Holley pump. I liked it. I had not heard of this aem wideband afr gauge. I will check it out. Do you prefer 93% fuel or nonethanol? By the way the engine is running better now that I corrected some of the hoses. A former mechanic set some things up wrong. I will replace my tank this week. It had a leak.@@shed_mfg
@@superdave1837 sounds like you had more of a jetting or overpressure issue than a carb issue. There’s a guy on UA-cam thunderhead289 that’s really into the science of making carbs run well with modern unleaded fuels that have a much lower boiling point
I have been dreading taking the dashboard out but I have to get back there to replace some vacuum hoses. Which engine does your car have and are you rebuilding it or replacing it? Please show as much as you can. I have decided to restore my car on my own after having a few horrible mechanics. I am not a mechanic until now. This car is very unique. I have a 1963 Lincoln Continental. You can see it on my channel if you want.
looks great. What size twin scroll are you running?
Good content mate. What year is your e30?
Thanks, I appreciate it! It’s an 89 325i, I have follow up content for this that I need to get around to…
Literally getting this done on my 99 m900
What was the 3d app you used?
man this is awesome! im tempted to buy a 66 in my area with a similar starting point. interested to see what you do with all the corrosion. cant wait for p3!
I might end up fabricating a whole dash. But I’ll burn that bridge when I get to it 🤣
Hi I have a 64 convertible but I don’t know where can I buy part can some one help me please
🚀🚀🚀
So cool seeing this project again, particularly the process of the whole engine being lifted out. The engine seems like an incredibly opportune find. Will you still be able to use that engine stand again now that you welded in the brace? Those kind of steps that interrupt the flow but pay off in the end (like your bagging and labelling) sure do require patience when you're involved in a project and want to progress - I was into my 30's before I learned.
Diesel, nice. Also love the wire rims!
You don't have much love for your watch, do you, Max?😮
Are you going to post more on the lincoln
