Low-Vision UK - Terry's View
United Kingdom
Приєднався 13 сер 2018
I'm just the average guy who happens to have been Registered as Severely Sight Impaired (Blind)
I hope through this channel to share what I have learned about a life without vision, and demonstrate that its not the end of The World - and that you can be Happy and Blind, and do most of the things you have always loved - just maybe with a different approach
Hopefully my channel will educate and resonate
My personal sight loss journey. Registered as Partially Sighted on 11th June 2018 and subsequently Severely Sight Impaired (March 2019).
Learning to live with low vision is not at all easy, but I have discovered there is so much help available if you are willing to accept it.
I want to share my story and hopefully connect with people going through loosing their sight and indeed those that have lived with sight loss for many years.

MSC World Europa YACHT CLUB Deluxe Balcony Suite 109019 Review
We sailed on the beautiful MSC World Europa in the Yacht Club, Deluxe Balcony Suite 19019 in February 2023.
The room was beautiful, had everything we could wish for. It was spacious, well appointed and amenity wise, had all we needed.
The room was very quiet, and for myself, my Partner, Deana nd my Beautiful Guide Dog, Spencer, there was adequate room, with plenty of storage
If you have any questions, please drop a comment below, and I will they and answer them as best I can
Thanks for Watching

The Moxy Hotel in Southampton is an ideal place to stay overnight prior to sailing on your upcoming cruise ship. Only 1 street back from the port. We were pleasantly surprised by the vibe of the hotel, and the cleanliness as well as the friendliness of the great staff. On arrival you are offered a Moxy Cocktail, which was rather lovely, and the feel of the reception is modern, and airy. It has ...
Guide Dogs Never have Fun - Rubbish!

Guide Dogs Never have Fun - Rubbish Haha, a great misconception is that a Guide Dog is always working, I have even had it said too me that it is cruel to have a guide dog, because they are so miserable, having to constantly work, never allowed to be " just a dog " It really is a misconception, because, whilst they work extremely hard at keeping their visually impaired owners safe, guiding them ...

Sharing my Guide Dogs experience with Steph McGovern and Kerry Katona on Channel 4's Stephs Packed Lunch. This was a lovely experience and we were very well looked after by the whole team. Steph and Kerry were amazing. Its 90 years since the first guide dogs, and I cannot tell you how much Spencer, my guide dog has changed life for me since starting to loose my sight in 2018. How My Guide Dog Guides Me

How does my guide dog guide me? In this video, we take a walk through town, call to a pet store and call for a Cafe Nero. Spencer, my guide dog guides me in the snowy weather, safely gets me to the roadside, finds the button for me t press at the crossing, and safely gets me to where I need to be.
Pavement Parking - Blind Man and His Guide Dog
Переглядів 3722 роки тому
Obstructive Pavement Parking is unfortunately the norm these days, but it has to stop. I am registered blind, and have a fabulous Guide Dog named Spencer, who give me incredible freedom and independence. However, inconsiderate drivers put both myself and my guide dog at risk every single day. This doesn't just affect visually impaired people, or disabled people - but rather ALL pedestrians
How Do I see as a blind man | What I can and cannot see |
Переглядів 1742 роки тому
Being Blind doesn't necessarily mean that you see nothing. Here, I describe what I can and cannot see as a blind man, as well as using my memory from before sight loss to help me visualise what I can no longer see. Whilst I cannot see anything with clarity, I still see some light, so surrounding myself with bright lights kind of excites my mind, gives my brain that feeling of being alive. Add t...
White Cane vs Guidedog - Blind walking
Переглядів 3043 роки тому
I hope this video highlights a lot of the amazing work and difference that a guide dog can make for a person with low, or no vision. Today, I took my guide dog, Spencer, who I have now had for just over a year to my local dog groomer, as a treat. I then had to walk back to collect him using my white cane. The difference is pretty staggering. With a white cane, you know something is there, when ...

My First Night Time Walk with Guide Dog Spencer So, I decided to set myself and my guide dog Spencer a challenge. I have not been outside in the last two years when the light has faded , basically because I cant see a thing. Since getting Spencer, I have wanted to do it, but needed to get into the right head space - well, this evening we did it 🙂 Its very different at night, everything seems lo...
How Guide Dogs Guide a Blind Person

How guide dogs guide a blind person is simply amazing. It allows the guide dog owner to walk independently, whenever and wherever they want, without having to rely on a human sighted guide. The confidence this gives you remarkable. I have no fear of walking into obstacles, and I feel safe on my travels Guide dog Spencer is. my first guide dog, after loosing my sight 2 years ago. How Do I Read and See as a Blind Man? In this video, I explain my vision and the ways in which I read and also see things whilst out and about. Most blind people have some level of residual vision, and there are great technologies around to enhance the remaining vision they have, as well as for those with no vision whatsoever. I hope you like the video, and have found it informative. If you are...
How does a blind man - Make a cup of Tea & chop Vegetables
Переглядів 5634 роки тому
How does a blind man make a cup off tea and chop vegetables. Well, this is how I do it, and I'm sure there are lots of other ways too. Some people think that being blind means you cant do simple tasks like making yourself a drink and preparing vegetables. However, it is perfectly possible as a blind person to do such things. If you are blind or low vision - how do you do this? If anyone would l...

My first bus ride as visually impaired
I don't understand why they don't make this card similar to the bus pass card for disabled people and elderly where you can simply tap it. ............. in other words contactless. much easier for certain disabled people. a situation occurred recently with a anonymous disabled friend. I know a time they had to pay the full price. they didn't get the third of the percentage off . and was left disappointed when they had to pay for a full price ticket. this would not happen if there was contactless. unfortunately this person was involved in a scam luckily she got the money back. happy ending to the story
That person in the background is really annoying.
Hello I'm in the north west. I have just been registered as partially sighted. My eye sight is getting worse id like to start cane training... But my local authority haven't been in touch so I got in toucb with guide dogs an a rehabilitation team member will be coming out to see me. Do you know anything about the yellow card?
do you have any videos on the guide dog assessment? Im going on the orientation and mobility assesment next month as part of the application
Ive been in contact with guide dogs Im going to be going on a mobility assessment on 16th next month of the application. Long cane training and then to see if a guide dog would help.
We were yacht club on the world Europa and the splendida. The splendida had baths and we hated it. In fact we decided to book the world Europa again because we loved the suite and the large shower so much.
I live in London and I have the freedom pass as i have depression, PTSD and autism. It seems quite complicated for the general disabled bus pass there but in London I can use mine anytime of day or night but the older person freedom pass holders is after 9am on weekdays. The national rail has some restrictions mainly south of the Thames that both kinds of freedom pass isnt valid before 9.30 on non-TfL rail but free afterwards with no evening peak restrictions. Child fare does apply on the Thames cruises for holders of any adult freedom pass but I don't know about the cable car as i never used my freedom pass for a discount because im frightened of heights.
What a pleasure with your dog!!!

Fabulous tour. A safe in a drawer....totally cool. How did Spencer take to the 'suite' life, and did you blame and frame him for eating the Pringles to get a free refill 😆
hahaha - now, I never thought of the Pringles hack - but, I will try that tactic at the end of Aug when we are on Virtuosa haha. Hope all is good with you
@@LowVisionUKTerrysView Yeah good thank you. Look forward to your thoughts on Virtuosa when you sail on her. Wishing you a great voyage when it comes 😃
This was a delight to watch Terry. It's the first time we have ever seen a guide dog's ability to navigate roads and paths and obstacles like that. Totally awesome that Spencer has that calm focus and nature to remember his training and his responsibility for your safety, and not be distracted.
Are you still preferring top fix to side fix harnesses?
Hi Evie, I have never had the side fixings type harness, so cant really state a preference between the two. I feel very comfortable with the top fix tho
@@LowVisionUKTerrysView Thanks for replying. I have a top-fix too but have been hearing about people switching to side fix (b-type) harnesses and enjoying the feedback more. A friend told me I was 'old school' with a top-fix and I went on a UA-cam mission! It's quite uncommon to see another handler with top-fix!
Also on the day the bin collection is made.he pavements are cluttered with higgledy piggedy wheels bins, obstacles with sight impaired people and their guide dogs
i know this is an older video so i don’t expect a reply but ive just got a disabled card and im wondering how exactly to use it, do i just show it to the bus driver?
Hi. many thanks for your question, I am always happy to reply if someone takes the time to write. If it is this same card, then yes, simply show it to the bus driver, some will want it scanned, some will just say, take a seat. For the trains, simply show it to the person at the barrier, and they will let you through, then if someone on the train asks to see tickets, simply show them your pass.. It's so easy to use. Hopefully, the council sent you a leaflet, showing you the boundaries in terms of how far you can travel with the pass, either full or half price. If you are travelling beyond the boundary, you just pay for a ticket from the boundary to your destination. I hope this makes sense ?
Hey Terry, it’s Vinny. Been a while. It’s nice to know you’re still uploading videos. I’d like to, but kind of grew apart from it. Not that I don’t want to just never seems to make its way into my daily schedule. L O L so much is going on over the last few years. I just thought you’d like to know that tonight I am submitting my application for my first. Guide dog. My best friend which was my lab mix got old and passed away about five months ago. I’ve had a hard time getting over him, but he was not a guide dog. After a lot of thought as I am one to rescue a dog usually I thought that the benefits of a guy dog would be the smarter choice for me in my life currently. And for years, my very good friends from my blind peer support group are always yelling at me to apply. Always felt due to my peripheral vision that I would be taking away from another blind individual that could use the dog more than me. But just like when I was biased against my white king and end up being one of the best things I ever decided to put in my toolbox, I know, that a guy dog will be the same scenario. with even more benefits to be had. I know I don’t comment as much but I have seen from time to time your uploads on UA-cam. Hope all is well. Seems to be going fine and everything on my end is good. My daughter just started going back to school for the year so I’m gonna have more time on my hands. so maybe I’ll start trying to upload some UA-cam again. God bless you friend.
Hey Vinny, I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to hear from you. I often wondered how you were doing, as your videos used to be one of my highlights. I know what you mean though, I pose very few myself. Im absolutely chuffed that you are making your application for a guide dog, you will honestly be amazed, and will love and live your best blind life with your four legged life changer beside you. I am so excited for you, because I know how much you are going to love the additional freedoms a guide dog will bring, the adventures you will have and the memories you will make. soooooo exciting. Please keep me posted. Maybe that will be your kick to start posting again, once you have your amazing guide ? All is pretty good at this end thanks Vinny, and honestly, I am thrilled to listen to your comment and get your news. Stay in touch, and god bless you also my friend. Terry
I think you both look like you are enjoying the breeze😂❤

Thank you so much, thats so kind of you, and to remember as well. I hope you are doing really well, and enjoying life
Hello I hope you will be fine how can I contact you?
Hi. message me here by all means if I can be of help to you
Hello can you please give me some help ( can my carers get a free travel pass for them selves to go on the bus on their own
Hi there Stephen. Thanks for your comment. I hope you re well. Carers cant get a disabled pass im afraid. They can travel with you, but, not on their own - the card is specifically to help disabled people get out and about. Hope this clarifies..Terry
Thank you 🙏 I think carers should have their own travel pass so they can go out and get the items that the people that can’t get out
This card is open all the time ?
yes, it is. If you are registered blind. If registered partially sighted, then you get half price rail and bus travel during certain times as opposed to free travel at all times. hope that helps
How do you get to the bus stop when your legs are paralysed and you are in a wheelchair Partially sighted person when you cannot take electric mobility scooter on the buses.I have a powered wheelchair but the pavements are dangerous and getting on buses. I actually had fallen to the side with my electric mobility scooter just about 6 weeks ago because of potholes and obstruction with road signs plastic polls blocking disabled access on pavements and 🚗 🚘 🚔 blocking going to the bus stop 🚏
sorry to hear that. you need to speak to your council, and support team..contact RNIB perhaps for some pointers? good luck
Hi Terry thank you so much ,I'll get back to you if I need anymore help, many thanks
Hi I've just started to watch your videos as my husband has just been registered blind and we have learnt more off you from watching you than anybody, he's going through a bad stage with it and the support and confidence you have given him is unbelievable, please keep doing the videos as I am sure people will have taken comfort and lots of support from these thank you keep up the good work P.s love your dog
Thank you so much Fleur, for your very kind words. I'm so sorry that your husband is having a rough time at the moment, and Im glad you have found my videos of use.
