Even just walking your neighborhood with a bucket and a trash picker, cleaning up bits is a satisfying way to give. It doesn't have to be complicated :) I'm so glad you have had this experience in the past, and I hope you can try it again soon!

@LilahsLoveLLC oh I do that every time I walk to the gas station. After my daughter wrecked last car I didn't have a car for a couple years there and walking to the store every day practically the garbage drives me nuts so ya .I definitely wish I had one of those pocker thing.. I did walk up to the store the other day and that was a struggle in itself. Unfortunately I have to take breaks in my physical activities these days especially painful in the cold. First priority is just getting the house and kitties taken care of but yes on a good day I would love to be more helpful again

I feed the cats twice a day. They get dry kibble mixed with canned cat food. I also supplement their food with L-Lysine for respiratory health. During the cold months I give them a protein snack mid-day...usually chicken or tuna or sardines. Cold temperatures can quickly cause hypothermia in cats without a fat reserve to help regulate their body temperature, so I work to build them up to give them the best chance at survival. I'm not sure that they're trying to make sense of anything. I think it's partly a PR thing to be honest. There are solutions, but they don't really seem to be seeing/trying to solve anything. Just finger pointing and pot stirring. In the end, it's always the cats that pay the price :/

Over the next 3 days we have great daytime temps over 40 - so I will be bulking them up on extra protein and prepping the shelters for the next blast of winter weather. Leo has adjusted to a new routine of coming at night, so he should be okay. Just a few more weeks of rough winter stuff and we should get clear of the worst temps. By end of February it should be more bearable for them. Just have to get them through this part.

I could maybe get insurance for a couple of the indoor kiddos, but I care for so many (and a lot have pre-existing conditions like FIV). My vet does work with me some, and also accepts donations directly toward my bill (he is wonderful). I will look into getting a couple of the inside youngsters covered. Every bit helps! Have you heard of Lemonade? That's one I am interested in.

Doesn't it feel amazing to let that heavy weight go? To be able to say that you are happy - and genuinely mean it, is such a beautiful moment in life! I'm hopeful that younger women may be having a better experience since there appears to be more empowerment these days - but we have so far to go. And to be fair, not just women. Young men are often held to nearly impossible standards of worth, strength, etc as well. You have boosted my confidence with your insight, and I really appreciate hearing a snippet of your journey!

I have a follow-up to post later :) Thank you so much for all the help and grace you have given me. That's a true friend, and what love looks like. Do you know how amazing you are?! I saw something special on day one. It really is true that some of us have more winding paths - but how better to see and experience all the sights on the journey! I love that our paths crossed here and we are doing this together!

If I could rewind knowing what I now know, I would pursue becoming a vet. But, where I am today - it's not a priority anymore. Funny how life changes you. Maybe you have something there about things happening for a reason. I don't regret the process that brought me here though because I'm just finding happiness in my life. That is something I have always struggled with. The fact that I am finally happy in my life tells me that I must be on the right path and to keep going. I'm ready to put down the past and make a difference in the future...even if it's just for colony of kitties :) They matter too.

@LilahsLoveLLC the past is behind us . learn from it and only remember the good stuff. All we have is our future. I'm happy to hear that you are finding happiness. I mean what's not to be happy about you have a great husband Wonderful kids, great friends a roof over your head and tons of kitties and dog to love and take care of.. sounds pretty awesome to me 😊

We're all learning as we go, and that's the beauty of it. There's always time to grow :)

She apparently approves too. Even though she refuses socialization she does respond to her name :) I find it so weird that she never accepted socialization. Her sister Dora is is a total attention sponge lol
