A Christmas Story takes place in the late 1930s early 40s. Interesting that the hood/scarf is coming back into style! Great video - I live in Calgary so it's so fun to see it viewed through a visitor's/vacationer's lens.

Your podcast popped up today and I watched while making Almond Roca for my son who is arriving this afternoon. The mail strike in Canada meant no care packages over Christmas. I skied Lake Louise in 1974, which gives you some idea of my age- lol! About 10 years ago, a local yarn store carried quiviet which was collected by her father in the North West Territory and she spun it. I purchased a tiny skein for an outrageous $45 at the time, but it made a lovely warm hat for my other son who was working on and off in Nunavut. It even felt warm in my hands as I knit. It’s way too expensive now. I live in Kamloops, BC, so we are in winter, but it has been a very mild winter so far and the snow keeps coming and going. Loved your podcast. Will keep watching! ❤

I keep forgetting that you are Happy Hands now, so it was such an exciting surprise when I clicked on your video and exclaimed, “Oh boy! It’s Nadine!” I loved seeing all your gift knits, and I laughed along with you as you tried on the balaclava. I like that you’re a mom like me who will knit whatever their child asks for, no matter how different it is from what they would choose for themselves. I live in the very hot, humid southern United States. I have been to Banff and Lake Louise once. It is very different in climate and terrain than what I am used to, but it is so beautiful! I can’t wait for your next podcast, but enjoy your time with family in Canada.

Lovely podcast. Your Salvo finds are gold. I reckon the dress would look great sleeveless or with the sleeves slightly capped. Again, you have given me inspiration - with the hat pattern and the designers' other patterns leading me down the rabbit hole. With the pineapples, I throw the tops into established garden beds, and, like Topsy, they just grow. The offshoots are called pups. We have a wonderful pineapple grower locally who puts up a roadside stand every year with his small and very sweet pines. A lot of travellers rip off the tops and leave them, so locals will quite often buy a couple of sweeties and take 2 or 3 tops to add to their pineapple patch. Have a wonderful week. Thank you for your entertaining and inspirational podcast.

Op shops are fabulous places for finding treasures. I'd wear the brown linen dress sleeveless. It would be perfect for Byron Bay in summer. With your black dress, your idea of lace at the hem is terrific. I'd make it wide not narrow as in your top. Another place to include some lace would be on the sleeves, if, you intend to have them. Love your hat. I too don't use cable needles either. Watching from NZ. We call the Salvos here, the Sallies!!

You can never have too many Ranunculi!! So far I've made 6, but only one of those is for myself. The others went to my 3 daughters, a sister and a friend. Five have been long sleeve versions in wool or alpaca...so cozy in winter. The short sleeve one was a linen/cotton blend. For the first long sleeve version, I did the shaped elbow, but for the others, I just knit the sleeves straight, and then made rapid decreases and an I-cord bind-off. For the last 5, I did long tail cast-ons and they look just fine. It's such a pretty pattern. I might have to make one like your beautiful black version for myself!

I was late to the Ranunculus party. I made them for the first time this year, starting with an oatmeal coloured long sleeve version out of a blown yarn, and the second, very similar looking to your black one, light and airy. I made it from Holst Garn Lucia in a burnt orange colour and made a sort of garter stitch rolled hem combo on the hem, neckline, and sleeves that I came up with on my own, and looks really pretty. I probably should have made the oatmeal coloured one a size bigger, because I prefer thick sweaters to be on the loose side and mine is more fitted. It still looks nice, just not as loose as I prefer for the fabric. The light airy burnt orange one is so light that it tends to shrink upward as I wear it, until it is sitting just below my bust, so I'm toying with making it longer, even though it starts out the perfect length. I have yarn for a third one out of a really soft worsted weight cotton in apple green, that I plan on making 3/4 length sleeves for with the i-cord cuffs. I'm not addicted to making the Ranunculus. The draw for me is really just that I can make it out of any yarn I want, and it takes so little yarn, often only taking one skein, if it's fingering weight, or two skeins in a medium to worsted weight yarn. Yours all look really pretty and the colour of the second one you put on looks gorgeous on you. They all look great over the white dress.

Thank you so much! I heard years ago that a famous French designer (can’t remember who now though) put chain into the hem of her lightweight cardigans to give them weight and hang nicer…food for thought! All of your Ranunculus sound amazing and yes it truly is magical how it uses so little yarn and is so versitile. ❤️

I love all your Ranunculus but especially your latest one. Funny thing, I've just uploaded my latest video where I'm wearing a Ranunculus too! I've knit 2 and am going to knit more - probably with half the patterning.

Ah Nadine that Ranuculas pattern is impossible for me to knit. 20 pages of so many instructions and sizes all mixed up together plus my dyslexia and 15 attempts at the bloomy thing..I can't say what I did with that pattern. I don't really like the shape either. Not sure why it so popular. Its probably a breeze for right handed knitters who like that type of top down too many pages pattern. Now to a previous podcast about your Hinterland forey. I purchased the pattern after years of see it and compared it to my FEN pattern and they're very much alike in sizes and construction. As I now have the pattern I will make a Hinterland to compare the feel etc. How are you going in Canada? Hope you're videoing. Safe travels

@@barbararadzeviciusbondi4150 oh no! I have the original pattern that was one size only and it’s only 3 pages? I love the shape for me but every-body is different. Can’t wait to see how you go with the Hinterland dress.I am still in Australia, only going to. Ananda at Chrissy. ❤️

I just started one and used a long tail cast on - I started with a needle 2 sizes larger for the wrapping on part only - I’ve tried it on and it fits very nicely, but I did use 100% wool which is stretchy and I did use only 60 stitches. I think if I were going to do this with a linen or cotton, I would go up to 90 stitches for the cast-on . Also, I just used a one by one rib because I did not feel like doing the twist and it looks nice. I think you should give it a try.

Hi from the Qld border👋🏻. I have the same question about moth balls. I had the smell in a blanket from my grandmother. I washed it 3 times and dried it in the sun, on the clothesline. The smell was less but not gone. I did hear that if you put brown paper over your oil marks and iron over the top the brown paper absorbs the oil. I haven’t tried it though. Happy making 🧶

Hi! So nice to see what you are doing ❤ about the cardigan, I wouldn’t change the sleeves because they are so wide. I have garments with very wide, long sleeves and I get them tangled into everything and dip them in my food - it’s a mess 😂 ❤ Marie

Just an add on 😅 I don’t think the Sun bleached stribe on the top will disappear with dye. You can unravel and repurpose the yarn and the stribe will be blended in ❤ Regarding the pockets in the pants. I think it’s supposed to be like that because the pockets are a design thing - not supposed to be used ❤ they have sewn it into the waistband because it makes it more stabil and prevents it from getting out of shape ❤ linen it a very delikate material
