The BFG by Roald Dahl | Book vs Movie
Today I’m talking about The BFG written by Roald Dahl in 1982, and the 2016 adaptation directed by Stephen Speilberg. The story follows Sophie, an orphan who is kidnapped by a Big Friendly Giant (the BFG). She learns that there are giants in the world, and they eat people. But the BFG doesn’t eat people; he actually gives them dreams. They become friends and work together to stop the bad giants and save the day. This is a great story about friendship, being brave, and doing the right thing, and the adaptation was wonderfully done, but had quite a few changes, so let’s get into it

Loved this movie.
I didnt think I would like this book as much as I did but I finished it within a vew hours.
Have you read the book sequel, Somewhere Beyond the Sea? It's so precious!
I have it, but haven’t read it yet. I’m looking forward to it!
Thank you for this video. I really enjoyed it. I only recently read the book. I saw the movie when it was originally released in theaters. Also I saw the original cut multiple multiple times on HBO and renting it on VHS and now I own the DVD. So, I have a LOT of nostalgia for the theatrical version. I recently saw the extended cut of the movie. And while it does fill in the gaps of the story, I just don't like it as much. I like the book a lot. I never was much of a reader, but, I can now see why people like the second cut of the movie. For me, I kind of like that everything isn't so fleshed out in the original cut. You don't need all the information. I like that there is a little mystery about some of these characters. The main point of the story is Stay Gold. So I don't really need all the other details. I think the original cut tugs at your heart strings a little more the way it was edited and put together.
I don’t know if this movie is good or bad: it’s noteworthy I guess You could argue that it’s a movie about coping: I was a child when the events occurred and it was indeed hard to process. For me personally, the whole circumstance didn’t feel real to me. I admit I didn’t know anyone who died during the bombing but I suppose it’s not too far fetched to believe that I wouldn’t have a similar reaction to the kid in the movie As an audience member of this film I want to say it makes sense to a degree but it really doesn’t feel like it was necessary or in the best taste. It’s a very conflicted reaction, obviously Lindsey Ellis said its not good but there’s potentially “a good movie buried in there” which makes the most sense
The house in the cerulean sea is begging for an animated move/tv show adaptation and I’m surpsied that hasn’t happened yet
I would love to hear you do to Read and review the movie of to kill a Mockingbird
Will have to add it to the list!
This movie here broke me in half. So sad. Of a life cut short with such promise for a future. Interesting perspective.
Yes! I got the impression of Only Murders in the Building too; but better. More wholesome. The audiobook is fantastic. Got it through my library. Well worth the wait!
I just watched the movie and I’m not super happy with it. I’m surprised at the amount of differences between the book and movie that I didn’t remember.
The audiobook is hilarious 😂❤
Agreed! 😂
If you get the chance, you may want to compare the musical version as well.
You have your opinion but I thought Anna Hathaway was great as the grand high witch because it was like seeing a female version of lord Voldemort
📚 Just finished reading "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton! 🌟 This classic novel dives deep into the struggles of the Greasers and Socs, highlighting the harsh realities of class conflict and the search for identity. 🤜🤛 With unforgettable characters and a powerful message, it’s a must-read for anyone who loves a compelling story. ✨ If you haven’t picked it up yet, I highly recommend it! #TheOutsiders #BookReview #MustRead #S.E.Hinton
i just read it and loved it sm
Well this explains everything! First comment can I get pinned 📌 ?
Thanks!, I had only seen the movie until recently when I got my hands on the Marvel graphic novel. I started reading about the Kalidahs and the field mice and I was thinking I don't remember that from the movie, but when it got to the story about the flying Monkeys I was like wow, that's not how it was all!
The book has a lot of terrifying stuff lol
Idk what yall are on about, i like the complete novel sound track way better, even if some of it is a bit goofy. I think the new music adds more intensity to some scenes but thats just my opinion.
Thank you so much
the book is so broing, couldnt be bothered studying it at all, watch the movie, read half the book, wanna know the outlines and differences thx
amazing
I was thinking Rhys Darby as Linus! Linus Baker reminds me of some of Darby's mannerisms as Stede Bonnet in Our Flag Means Death. He'd have to gain a few pounds though.😁
I could see that!
Excellent presentation, I enjoyed it from start to finish 😊
The music in the new version is so off that it takes you away from the drama and intensity. It’s pretty distracting, they should have kept the original music.
Actually If I remember correctly pony boy is yelling that the gun isn’t loaded. And dally says out loud they are never gonna take me alive.
Im halfway through and I love it so far!
Last week I managed to get a full set of LFB Oz books from Amazon. Great stories!
I want to read the book. I did not like the bouncing back and forth throughout decades. It was hard to feel connected to these characters. Also the whole DL woke shit got on my nerves. Every person Kate was attracted to was a person of color? But married a white dude? And Her brother and daughter gay? which I know is NOT in the books! This stuff has got to stop. Why do authors allow their stories to be ruined by woke PC garbage? And it is insulting to watch I for one know what your doing it's stupid.
Wonderful concept. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for better and deep explanation than others.i really impress Your way of analysis .😊
Thanks for watching!
A very, very comprehensive review - thank you. I saw the film and read the book and then did both again. It's one of my favourite films ever (and I'm 76 years old!). The casting for the film is near perfection and the book frequently brings a smile, despite the sometimes-dark subject matter.
Can you also decipher some other of Crank Baim books that wasn't turned into movies.
I genuinely despise the movie.
Honestly one of my favourite book-movie adaptations.
I feel like Harvey is almost too young for Linus, he has such a baby face. Lee Pace is on point though. I like Brenden Fraser for Linus. He's a little older than Linus is supposed to be, but I think he could pull it off.
I kinda feel bad for the ghost from the over look hotel I don’t think abara was nice when she locked her up
This was really good, thank you. Did you know that back in the late 80's i in England the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) made a tv series of 4 out of the 7 Narnia books. They are on UA-cam starting with The LTWATW. The special effects are simple but the music is great and i believe that adaptation is truer to the book. 😊
I never saw the Full novel movie but I saw the theatrical version, but they both are good, but I didn't care that the theatrical version was missing some parts. So both are like the same, just the full novel movie is longer.
u should do a video on Holes by louis sachar book vs movie.
That’s a good suggestion! I had seen the movie years ago, but only just read the book a few months ago.
Do they dig up his grave in the movie too? Or only in the book?
Only in the book.
I like the movie better.
Awesome video 🙂 back in 2020 when this came out... my gf (at the time) and her kids (2girls 7+10) saw the tailer for this movie and wanted to see it.. so we all watched it.. they enjoyed it.. they enjoyed the talking mice as kids do... so the next day I recommended we watch the 90s original... so we did.... the kids absolutely loved it.. they we're terrified of witches especially the grand high witch.. they were literally on the edge of their seats lol... and afterwards said that they loved the 90s more than the new one and wanted to watch it again!.. so it just goes to show... new, with questionable cgi doesn't automatically mean its going to be better.... what made the original scary is how grounded and real it felt... not to mention practical effects will always beat cgi... I known they're currently remaking the 90s arachnophobia..amazing movie! But I have a feeling the remake is going to have the same outcome as this...
I have a test for the book and the movie for what’s the difference and I’m only on chapter 13 😵💫
Thanks 🙏🏾
You should do this with Lord of the rings
Yeah I like the book more than both. but the 2020 movie made more changes I didn't like than the 1990 movie did. Great video.
Jurassic Park was changed when they adapted the book.
I read the book before I saw the movie. I prefer the rescue in the book because Beck is the EVA specialist and it's more professional to have him do it. My copy of the book doesn't have the ending you described with the space hotel, etc. I do think that Mark working for NASA is more realistic. Between the medical studies of Mark and the resources spent rescuing him they won't let him go any sooner than they have to.
Off-topic, I know...but who would you cast for a Legends & Lattes film adaptation? Obviously, Thimble's role would need to be CG/Motion Capture like Andy Serkis' roles
I haven’t read it yet 😣 Adding it to my TBR list & will follow up when I have an answer for you!
@SilverScribe85 So, I’ve just finished reading Legends & Lattes, and my initial thoughts on casting were actors in their 30s-40s+ (I think mostly because I tend to think of the actors I’m most familiar with), but I think these definitely need to be younger people. So for Viv, I could see Hunter Schafer playing the role (with some SFX/VFX, obvs 😅). I think Amandla Stenberg cool pull of a good Tandri.
@@BookshelftoBigScreen Hunter sounds like a guy's name, doesn't it?
