    I’m going to try this on my car. The rubber seals on the window has ‘gummed up’ and has left streaks of rubber residue on my window (common with older Toyotas). I’m going to give the isopropyl a go first, meths and then gas. Just because I have the other two products in the house and ready to go. Thanks for the content.

    I've been into radioactivity for 15 years, and it's a fascinating subject! You should use CPM or CPS with Geiger-Müller counters, not dose units, _unless_ you're measuring the radioisotope it was calibrated with, which is almost always Cs-137-gamma only, filtering out the beta particles. 3 mm of aluminum will absorb most beta particles, and beta emitters have an overall broad energy spectrum, whereas alpha and gamma emitters emit in discrete energy spectra, with various branching ratios/intensities. I use the SEI Inspector USB (v.2.13) Radiation Alert, which is a very high-quality G-M counter, which is very similar to the IMI Inspector Alert. I recommend getting the IMI silicone "Protect Boot" for it, which will protect it from scratches and shock. I use it with my SEI Inspector USB G-M counter, and it works great! Also, as I mentioned before, every radioisotope is like a "fingerprint." Their energy or energies and branching ratios will be different. For example, K-40 only emits gamma rays at 1.460 MeV at 11% per beta decay. However, Co-60 emits gamma rays at 1.173 MeV at 99% per beta decay and 1.332 MeV at 99% per beta decay. Also, efficiencies are important, too. Am-241 emits 59 keV gamma rays at 36% per alpha decay. These gamma rays can measure over 6X higher than Cs-137, which emits gamma rays at 662 keV at 85% per beta decay. You can flatten out this energy-to-response curve, by using an energy-compensated G-M tube or filter. Using the wipe test plate will flatten this out somewhat, but tin or brass is usually used in energy-compensated G-M tubes, so that dose units will be more accurate across the board, however it's not precise, but it works very well. These are just my thoughts on owning and using G-M counters. A quartz-fiber dosimeter or an ion-chamber survey meter-for extremely high levels of ionizing radiation are more suitable for X-ray and gamma radiation levels that can overflow most G-M counters. G-M counters are much better at detecting surface contamination and low-to-moderate-levels of ionizing radiation, especially alpha and beta. Scintillation counters are better at detecting, measuring, and in some cases, identifying X-ray and gamma ray radioisotopes. Anyway, I know this is a lot of information, but I hope that this helps! ☢

    Lexus uses that crap on their dashes and gets to be a nasty sticky mess( I know as I bought a new 2011 AWD IS250 and dash is a sticky mess in 2024) , and its out of warranty when it happens, I hate to try this method as there is no way to get rid of the gas smell from inside your vehicle !!! Guess I'll just buy a cheap dash cover .....LOL

    • @PraxisAdventures
      @PraxisAdventures 4 дні тому

      In my experience, letting items treated sit out for about 48 hours to air out got rid of 99% of the smell. After a week, the last 1% was gone. IDK if a car interior would be different. It's a larger area, and an enclosed space. Also any upholstery might "drink" in the fumes and take a lot longer to vent away. If you DID ever try it on something like a car, I'd suggest making sure to spot-test it first to be sure the results were even to your liking. The gas dissolved away the coating for me, but could also dissolve other materials (like the underlaying plastic). I haven't found any issues along those lines myself, but always good to do a test first to be safe... or just do a cover. On that topic, a LOT of people suggested that they just dusted their items in talc powder to stop the stickiness. That might be a good option for you. Then the talc would wear away and slowly take little bits of the goo along with it. Whatever you end up doing, good luck to you!

    Great video, super helpful. For anybody else interested, I noticed that the vintage models from Zassenhaus have the wire loops on them. Somewhere down the line they must have wanted to streamline the design and axed the loop. From watching another video it seems like the bread can get caught behind the loop. I would want to make a loop that could hinge, so that when you are done slicing, it opens up easily to release the bread. Any ideas on how to do this would be most appreciated. Ideally ideas only with glue because I don't have access to any metal shop or anything involving more than something super easy to do. Thanks!

    • @PraxisAdventures
      @PraxisAdventures 10 днів тому

      I'm not sure if I had it in this video, but at some point after buying this tool (which I still use every week and otherwise love) I added a guide to fix the bread falling into the handle problem. It's weird that the company recognized that some sort of guide was needed, put one on that had issues, and then instead of fixing the design, just removed it. The guide I created out of stainless steel, works well, and echoed the style of the entire machine so it looks like it belongs there and compliments the overall look.

      I guess that day 4 weeks ago was a day to overthink things for both of us! ;) I glanced down at my shirt just now to see what I'm wearing, but today it's just a disappointing blue shirt with no slogans. Have a good one - and thanks for sharing that funny coincidence!

    I don’t know how I ended up here! I’m not American, I’m alien to the idea of survivalist and I don’t understand why anyone should feel as a priority the necessity of being prepared to catastrophic events, like you mentioned as main objection to this kind of videos. However, I find interesting the topic as long as it stays within the boundary of what is likely to be useful day to day: carrying water, sunscreen, windbreaker, band aids, disinfectant and this sort of stuff might really be convenient. It’s connected somehow to military or boy scout / hikers’ preparation but in a daily use perspective

      Personally, I think both types of preparedness are useful (mundane and catastrophic... and everything between). Day to day snags happen all the time. Sometimes things go beyond that. I was camping with my boy and he tripped and received a rather long gash on his head. Without the tools in my bag, that gash could have turned into something much worse than it was. The ability to clean it out immediately prevented infection and allowed it to heal far better than it otherwise would have. As for catastrophic events, those (unfortunately) happen every day as well - just not to most of us. But just a quick sampling from the daily news around the world serves to remind that while these events might not be something we each individually have experienced in our own personal pasts, they may be something we might encounter in the future. So I think it's good to be at least somewhat prepared for them (especially since it's not that difficult to be at least somewhat prepared). Doing so isn't just a personal benefit, but also creates a societal benefit. The fewer people there are that need help and handouts during a crisis, the better the help and aid can be used to target the people who REALLY need it.

    Gasoline bad for your healthy better with carb cleaner

      @PraxisAdventures 20 днів тому

      gas is def not a health food. I'd be careful around all cleaners though. I don't know carb cleaner specifically, but most solvents that would work for this are not the sort of thing one would want to get into one's body.

    Have had great success using ethyl alcohol/ Methalated spirits/ Alcool brulee or spirits depending on where you live.

    The smell, you know that gasoline smell? The whole truck. Smelled like... binocs. Someday this video's gonna end.

      @PraxisAdventures 21 день тому

      I'd like it if the video ended due to people watching the full video with all the info about things airing out etc. But I doubt it will. People seem to just like the short version. Did you try this technique on parts of the inside of your car? Did it remove the surface in question? For items I tested out, 99% of the smell aired off after about 2 days. After a week, the rest of the remaining 1% was gone too. Have you let the surfaces air out?

      @@PraxisAdventures Easy. It's a reference to Apocalypse Now. A little light humor.

      @@zigwil153 HA! I haven't seen that film in so long, I didn't catch the reference. I have a fair number of people commenting about how terrible gasoline smells, so I took your comment to be a reference to that. I try to reply to as many people as I'm able to redirect them if they're having issues. I gotta watch that film again sometime soon. Thx for the reference!

    The slime is the result of the coating degrading over time. A bottle of ammonia, outdoor application an a good rub and you're all good.
