    Really enjoyed this. I’m making the Foxberry tee it in wool as a winter top (I live in Cambridge UK) and I’ve just finished the yoke, but it was really good to hear about the shaping as I have a similar body type and I found your details helpful, thanks a lot. I’m inspired to knit a summer version in cotton now.

      Oh you are at such a great spot in the knitting- so satisfying to see the yoke and some simpler knitting ahead! Thank you for taking a moment to watch and share your note. Funny enough, I just test knit another Sari pattern and posted that video a few minutes ago. Maybe I'll think about a winter Foxberry too...the bobbles are so cute!

    Hi Jess Really good first episode. I have only just found you so thought I’d start here and catch up. Love your sweater. I’m from Dorset in the South West UK. Mainly a garment knitter but am interested in the sock experiment. Thank you for sharing kindest regards Sharon

      Sharon- thank you so much for your kind words and apologies I am so delayed in responding. So many knitters are thinking of where you are from so often- whether we realize it or not! I wonder if Dorset are still a common breed of sheep in the area? The sock experiment continues- I had my first blow out and I hope to record an episode about it in the new year! Thanks again for watching and taking a moment to share your comment.

    I bought the Daughter of a Shepherd yarn at Jill's as well! I do love it, but not so much the sweater I knit. It may get frogged so I can reuse it. Just found your channel and will admit to binging through them as I live just west of Kingston! Moved here last year.

Have you been to the new yarn store (Yarn Farm) in the Rondout? Maybe we will meet at a social knitting there some time and can share Daughter of a Shepherd sweater ideas! Thanks for watching and commenting, and I hope we can connect at some point.

    Thank you for this wonderful podcast! I am currently knitting the Austfjord Cardigan, too, and am astonished on how fast it is knitting up! I am truly enjoying all the information you provide! The information on sheep breeds is interesting. The information on yarn brands is enlightening! What a lot of research you must do. It's interesting to hear all this information. (I love Marce's channel. Her voice is so soothing and her introspection on her crafts has me considering my knitting so differently. Her more recent videos of her fitness journey is also inspiring.)

    • @aconsideredcraft
      @aconsideredcraft 2 роки тому

      Hi, and thanks for the note. YEEEESSS!!! For sure. I talk in the video a bit about the tips I tried to account for the stretch- namely sizing waay down and also stopping on the shorter side of length since I know it will get longer as time goes on. Hope you give it a try and learn what works for you!

    I knit and cut my first steeked garment recently. It’s a worsted weight woolen spun yarn, so I didn’t enforce the steek in any way. I don’t like the bulk of the folded over portion (it was color work in three colors, so very thick) so I am planning to needle felt right next to the picked up bands and then I will cut away all the excess fabric. The only thing I was worried about was not knowing if I would like the fit before I cut the steeks.

    • @aconsideredcraft
      @aconsideredcraft 2 роки тому

      Same on the fit question for me too Elizabeth- hope the needle felting creates a fabric you love!

    sorry I'm not going to be joining the great sock experiment but I'd like to share that when I started knitting my own socks I made five pair of black socks for work. that was in 1997. Yup, my sock knitted with Brown Sheep sock yarn has lasted over 25 years. I wash and dry them in the machine. They show absolutely no wear.

    I'm really looking forward to your videos and your sock experiment! I've been searching the last few months for a knitting podcast that takes a more scientific approach to knitting, and especially talks about fiber, and finally, I came across this video! I also love the outdoors and cooking, so I'm sure I will appreciate everything you include :) I am primarily a sweater knitter, but when I knit socks, I knit them two at a time with magic loop. When I knit one at a time on magic loop, I really hate how often I have to stop to switch sides. I much prefer dpns if I do one at a time. However, I don't like to travel with dpns, I frequently drop them, and it's no fun to chase a needle across a dirty bus floor or ask the person sitting behind you if they would mind picking it up! I don't do color work with TAT socks, though. I tried one time to do thin stripes of three colors, and I abandoned that project after knitting only two inches, because of how tangled the yarns became....and it's still a tangled mass years later!

    • @aconsideredcraft
      @aconsideredcraft 2 роки тому

      Hi Elizabeth- thanks so much for the kind note....and I'm totally with you on trying to avoid chasing a rogue DPN across a bus floor!! Been there! Happy knitting!

    Plant based…I wish I liked the process but I just hate how my items look before blocking ( I scrutinize every stitch) and how my hands feel while knitting them. I mostly use Rowan organic cotton for babies and gift them so they are a quicker knit and the torture is over soon. The finish product is delicious to touch thou.

    I knit socks. Most of them are from dyers and are 75/25 fingering. Right now I’m making a pair with Cascade yarns, a 75/25 merino nylon blend that I wanted to try. I’m not liking it. It splits and (obviously) does not have a tight twist. Will not buy anymore of it. I do like Universal yarn Bamboo pop 55/37/8. Bamboo,cotton, PBT. Zauerball crazy is another good yarn. Farmers daughter is a dyer who uses Pinlter sock yarn also 75/25 SW Merino / nylon blend. Like the yarn. This is what I have used in the past few months. Hope it helped.

    Soooo helpful! I’m absolutely going to heed your advise. Lately I’ve been “assigning” projects to mementos occasions kind of like souvenir knitting. So I’m intentionally assigning a project to knit on while experiencing events in my life. Ie. joyous gift knitting for new babies in the family or the sad death of my aunt I knit a beautiful lace cashmere sweater and now when I wear it I’m getting hugs from her. So I like the idea of traveling and purchasing souvenir yarn and when I finish that project it reminds me of the journey.
