1969 Camaro Project - Part 13 - Front Sheet Metal Comes Together and Hockey Stripes Painted!!
Getting the front sheet metal gaps just right. Then masking up the fenders and doors to paint on the hockey stripes. I didn’t feel 100% safe with just the nutserts for the RideTech 4 Link, so I had the body shop weld in the 4 tabs to the frame.
The car is slowly coming together!

Finally getting things installed on the Camaro. I knew there was going to be some struggle with an older car and aftermarket parts, but I didn’t know it was going to be this bad 😳 Ridetech 4 Link is now installed and the Currie 9 inch is bolted in place. Put in the subframe which had the Ridetech coilover and Tru Turn kit already installed on it. Then was able to bolt up the Ridetech subframe c...

After 14 months, the car is finally painted! Thank you to Gongora’s body shop for all their work, patience, and dealing with my “can we add this?”. They really went 100% on this and it shows. Amazing crew that David has at his shop. Thank you to Jerry for the welding and body work and thank you to Abraham for his painting skills. Thank you to the rest of the crew as well. 1969 Camaro Project - Part 7 - Wood Body Cart
Переглядів 87911 місяців тому
Decided to go the more cost effective way and make my own body cart out of wood for about $150. A few 4x4’s, some Harbor Freight 6” Casters, and some miscellaneous hardware. This is a temporary solution to get my 1969 Camaro shell from the body shop, onto a trailer, and back to my place after it’s done being painted. These dimensions allow it to go up a ramp on a U-Hail trailer. It will sit jus...

It’s been a longer process than anticipated for the body work, but well worth the wait. The Bowler transmission tunnel is in, random holes in the body filled, panels straightened and aligned, and body gaps getting finished. David and Jerry at Gongora’s Body Shop are doing an amazing job.

Picked up this 1969 Camaro as a roller on November 12, 2022. Took a couple of months to get it completely stripped to have it media blasted down to bare metal. Did a ton of research on differ media blasting companies and body shops before starting the process. I ended up going with OC Sandblasting Inc. The shop I chose to do the body work and paint will be revealed soon!

Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to make and post this video. Just finished assembling my ride tech front suspension thanks to your video for additional help!
@@alejandroortiz8941 I’m glad it helped out 😁
The hockey stripes look amazing! My 2 cents- I like Chrome on these cars if they’re balanced out. Door handles, mirrors, marker lights, bumpers and window moldings. Just feels like vintage muscle. If you don’t like them you can paint them black anfterward. Are you going to do wheel and drip rail moldings? How about engine badge and shark gills? Those would be harder to remove and paint.
Thanks for the compliments on the stripes. I like the idea you have of trying chrome first and then if I want, I can just paint them. I’m going to leave the drip rail trim for last to see if I want it. I won’t be doing the wheel trim or gills. Not a fan of that trim.
@@allenwoolsey cool. Did you paint the front grill shroud body color or black?
I painted the outer part of the grille the same as the body color. The center is black.
@@allenwoolsey perfect
Looks grrreat! 👏👏👏
Thank you!!
Man, that is looking awesome! They did a very good job and you are doing a good job too. The satin or matte black trim and everything would look killer against the candy red for sure. That's my vote. lol I am using Cerakote to paint all my bumpers and handles and trim and what-not satin black. If you paint the stuff yourself try to use a 2k product (base with a hardener/activator), preferably with ceramic, if you can. Obviously you are limited to where you are and have but maybe a good engine paint or something if you go rattlecan. It is more expensive, but they do have the 2k paint in rattlecans now that you pop the internal bladder with a stem at the bottom and it should last a day or two, depending on the product, so maybe check that out. Either way, the Camaro is looking amazing and you are doing an awesome job!
@@adamscustomshop thank you! I will definitely look into the 2x rattle cans.
Man that paint is amazing!!!
Thank you 😁
Nice was thinking of going a 6 piston calipers what a budget deal going this way
How difficult was it to remove the bushing shell from the lower control arms on the front? Did they press out or did you have to cut them out?
I had to press them out, but that wasn’t hard at all. Getting the new ones in took more time.
Looks really good! Lots of nice metal to lightly work over. And prep for paint. 🎉. About how much did it cost for the blasting on the shell??
At the time is was about $2,400 to media blast the whole car. They did the fenders, valence, skirts, etc as well.
The car is looking great! I used raptor liner which came out perfect. You picked a great color! Ready for more. Thanks
Thanks! The color is more amazing in person.
Beautiful
How much did you pay for sandblasting currently looking to have what you got done. And what was the price for the body shop Would really appreciate it need to know if I’m gonna need to pull out a second mortgage 😂 awesome videos by the way brother 🤟🏻
The sandblasting was about $2,400 for the complete car and subframe. It was a little more due to using soda blasting on some parts of the car. Every body shop has a different price as far as labor and it also depends if you are keeping it stock or doing mods or need panel replacements. Plan at least $20k if you’re in CA.
I’m 20 min away from oc sand blasting 😂. Any tips you’d give for me and my 69 id highly appreciate boss
@@Primal_fx_bandit the best tip I have is do it right. Spare no expense or you won’t be happy. If you don’t have the money at the time for a part or service, then save up and get the part or service you want. Don’t rush it!
What engine are you putting in ?
I plan to put an LS3 in it.
What engine are you putting in ?
Nice build! What paint did you use on the subframe?
I had it powder coated satin black instead of painting it.
I know it can vary depending on each project but if you don’t mind me asking. How much have you paid in body and paint work? Looks great. Currently looking to restore my 69 Camaro
It definitely depends on the project and your goals. For me, I had to buy 2 new doors, rear tail panel, driver rear fender skin, mini tub from DSE, raised the tunnel with the Bowler tunnel panel, patched random holes with welding, rhino raptor under the car, body work, then paint. It was well over $20k, but I had a lot more done than just a factory restore.
What color is your paint? Looks good
The color is called Infrared from Lexus.
Base coat clear coat?
@@biggdogg5803 base coat, candy, clear coat
@@allenwoolsey very nice. Good job
@@biggdogg5803 thank you!!
Looks really good!
Thank you Brian!
Car looks sick 🔥🔥🔥! What color red is that? Super gorgeous man
It’s called Infrared from Lexus 😅
Beautiful car🔥
Thank you!
That looped bracket is factory - it’s the tire iron hold down. Nice job working through the challenges. 👍
Thanks for that info! Always learning something new 😁
I know they’re just rollers, but there’s nothing better on a first gen than the rallye wheels. Those look great.
They do look good, but I have other plans. I plan to keep the old school look but with a modern wheel.
@@allenwoolsey cool, looking forward to seeing the rest of the build.
The front calipers bolted up without any problems
They sure did!
Thank you for taking the time to make the video while figuring out this project. I am considering doing some or all of the suspension upgrades and know nothing about it. This vid helps. Where did you source the Z28 and ZL1 parts?
Finding the Z28 and 1LE parts weren’t super easy as I believe many of them are discontinued, but I was able to find left over stock at Rock Auto, my local Chevrolet dealer, and some random online stores. Patience and lots of phone calls were made to check actual stock. Never believe the websites when they say they are in stock, not necessarily true. Give them a call before ordering.
Love the color, just found your channel
Thank you!
Are you using the ride tech true turn with your suspension?
Yes, I am.
@allenwoolsey have you ran into header clearance issues? I'm fixing to order one for my build but am seeing guys not clearing long tube headers with it.
@@jerrodpatterson8938 unfortunately fitting the engine and headers is way out in the future for my build. I do plan to go with Holley as I have heard they solve a lot of the clearance issues.
🔥🔥🔥
You picked the right color 🇺🇲
I agree 😎
Allen, the paint turned out amazing! It looks great sir. Keep the videos coming
Thank you!
Shop tour!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Dude that is beautiful!!!
Thanks a bunch!
It’s about time Allen! I was about to give up on ya….
😂
I an actually doing the install of a ridetec coil over suspension myself. It's going on a 1969 Z28. The system came with everything for all 4 corners. I have thought many times about posting the Installation here on UA-cam. Buy there's already some on Here. I've also installed a Holley Terminator X TBI system on it as well. It's already on the car and 98% complete.
Definitely post an install video. I don’t think there can ever be enough install videos and you might cover something that another doesn’t. Can’t wait for you to get your car on the road. Make those videos and post them.
how much do you think have spent on just the engine work and fuel system ?
Lots of money to be honest. I did supercharge it, so definitely over $10k.
just asking sir, how did you learn how to do all this work? great build, congradulations
Say Weld-wood one more time
😂
Would this bolt up to the borla xpipe?
Pink! 🤣 I would say Blue but I think you are going RED!
MAN YOU DIDNT EVEN TRY TO EYEBALL ALIGN IT IN ANY WAY LOL
Hahahaha. It was bad. I should’ve definitely done a better job before tightening everything down in the front. Lesson learned for next time. Especially on the 1969 Camaro I’m currently building 😊
That's an incredible amount of organized work. Those valve covers are sweet.
Thanks! I had a blast mapping it all out before the install and then executing the plan.
Fine job. 👍What gear ratio did you decide on?
I forgot that detail. I ended up with 3.50 gear ratio. I was going to go with 3.89 but Jonathon said the 3.50 would be a better street gear ratio.
@@allenwoolsey Cool. I was tempted by 3.89 too but decided on 3.73. 🍻
Let us know how you like that ratio once the car is on the road.
Hope the welder at Curries isnt drunk like whoever welded mine was. Welded brake line tabs right where coilover goes to lower mount
Great Video Bro, I'm getting all this too besides the Brakes/Rotors, already got them. So after a year how's the handling? and if so what would you done/chosen differently?
Looks great! I believe those bolts are a type of lock bolt, meaning once pushed into their hole they aren’t meant to spin. The knurled end and lack of head for a wrench makes sense. I think?? lol. I’ve got a 68 Firebird and I appreciate the videos. Not sure why I’ve never seen your videos before, but I sub’d!
Thanks for info. I’m glad I got those bolts replaced. The nut on them seems like a one time use, but not sure. Thanks for subscribing!
Your a lucky man haha nice car
Yes sir, good work with subframe. Keep it coming!
Fine job! 👍
I've seen such bad cars come out of the sandblaster that thing came out nice
Thanks. They actually soda blasted the outside panels and sandblasted the firewall, underside, and inside.
@@allenwoolsey nice
What stage is that camshaft, love the setup
