I'm nothing if not a glutton for fancasting hot people together, so here we are! apart from the obvious gender change, this au pretty much follows the first 2 books in the trilogy (shadow & bone, siege & storm) with a little twist at the end ✨
i've been toying with the idea of fem!darklina for so long and frankly this au was collecting dust in my 'in progress' pile for well over a year now - but I'm so glad I didn't finish it back then in a rush. I did announce a coming darklina vid on twt a few days ago but I'm pretty sure few expected this 👀 I hope you will like this and also see the vision 🖤 what can i say, anya just effortlessly ticks off all the darkling fancast boxes for me
with the brief summary out of the way - i can finally, belatedly, say: HAPPY BIRTHDAY VIR (@nomournersnofunerals)!!! You knew I was cooking an au for you but I hope I managed to surprise you somewhat!! From day one all those years ago we couldn't shut up about this verse - i still remember how you were baiting me that darklina are related while I was reading RaR (I'm never forgetting the sheer terror) and the topic of fem!darklina always kind of floated around so I knew I'll have to do something about that sooner or later (later, as it turns out hsgdfhsdg). I know we initially talked about adelaide (back when you were watching reign, feels so long ago now) so you'll have to forgive me the sudden change fskjfsgf anya as yennefer simply embodies that emo energy too well to settle for anything else (and i'm kinda hoping to spread this agenda). But back to the point dar(k)ling, you're the most charming and loyal person with unmatched sense of humour i know and I'm so glad to be able to call you a friend 🤍🤍🤍

I tried to follow it as closely to the books as possible (hence the crammed travelling along the vy/campfire/darkling's age talk/assassin shenanigans in the beginning) HOWEVER you may notice some small changes - fedyor being on the darkling's side - which is only because his dialogue and surroundings worked better than ivan lmao, or darklina travelling together by coach instead of on horseback - the scenes just fit too well not to do it kjshfsg. I did have to skip some vital parts of the 2 books (rip the sea whip hunt, alina leaving the darkling on the fold, cofton) but i hope the length of the chapel scene makes up for it :)
ps. yes i'm using the im fell font family yet AGAIN. i will never get bored of it, there's simply so many possibilities. sue me kjgsgjhgsf
