Its got enough power with Equal Length Headers & a (Pops & Crackels) Tune which takes away the Torque Dip. I’ll Spin my Wheels, doing a Burn Out as I take off & I can easily drift my Car in open Car Parks with lots of room! My 86GTS feels just like my old Nissan 300ZX Z32 Short Wheel Base 2 Seater Sports Car that I had when I was younger but, the 86GTS uses way less Fuel. If you Service it before it reaches 10,000 Kilometres & do the Comprehensive Service every 100,000 Kilometres then you shouldn’t have any problems! I’ll replace my Coil Overs every 5 Years just for safety!

I have also had one for many years. Even though we always want more, I never had the feeling of lacking power or not going fast enough. The only thing that bothered me was the drop in torque at 4000 rpm. But this is easily correctable (tuning, header, E85...) And once again it is a feeling and I have obviously never measured it...

It is RIGHT for Toyota not to put turbo in 86/BRZ. If you want a turbo coupe, GO BUY SUPRA! NA, "LIGHTWEIGHT" and RWD are 86/BRZ selling points. Especially light weight is becoming a very RARE car feature, even Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and even Lotus are getting heavier. There are only 2(3) light weight sport car that normal people can buy nowadays - 86/BRZ and MX5.

I had a 2013 Scion FRS for 9.5 years. I drove it from 5km to 250000km. Not a single issue just the recall. I never changed the brakes. Drove it in 30c to -40c in Canada. You need good summer tires like ps4s. Now I have a WRX. It's a boring car compared to the FRS.

The Subaru - Toyota partnership will end in 2025. I don't think we'll see a BRZ variant , but a new GR 86 is rumered , and like other comments here suggested it could have the a de-tuned version 1.6 turbo from Yaris / Corolla GR , or some form of light hybrid. BTW power doesn't make a "sport car" sports cars come in varaity of shapes and sizes , sports car is not a supercar . A light wight , agile , razor sharp to drive car is a sports car , same with Miata , on that fron the Miata and GT86 / brz GR deliver in spades!

As a 2014 BRZ owner (from new) and keeping this little fire cracker for life, It doesn't need more power. I updated the FD ratio to make every gear faster, 1 piece aluminum drive shaft, 17x7.5 Enkei RPF1's with PS5 215 tires, bunch of STI and TRD bracing, Tein coilovers with their active damper system, Crawford power block intake runners for a little more TQ down low and the obligatory STI bling bits sprinkled round. Even did a full Stereo tare out and replace adding a tiny 4 channel amp and super light weight sub to the boot (9kg). As for the latest GR86, have seen how much that pig of a car weighs compared to the earlier gen? It also has less responsive steering feel.

this is inaccurate, I have been told there will be an GR86 with a yaris 3 cylinder G16E-GTS engine comin soon by a very well known racing driver in Australia. Also it will be a similar weight So i guess we will see.

It's also about throttle response, you can't get the instant throttle response generally from a turbo, unless you start seriously upping the engineering involved, and that would indeed add lots of cost and lots of weight. The 86 has also been about balance, responsiveness and lightness for handling.

This car is great the way they are it doesnt need a turbo from factory. Buy a skyline or supra or wrx sti if you want a turbo car period..

Have you had a chance to have a go in a GR86? They are a level up all round and comparing the peak HP numbers doesn't tell the whole story - under the curve the GR86 is way up on torque, ofc you'll get more from FI mods on either but having tried both the GR86 is an incredible OEM piece of kit. In regards to the no OEM turbo - it's probably fair play on the GT and GR86 - but it's probably worth seeing what Toyota are cooking up with the next iteration, they seem to be breaking ties (or going in different directions) with BMW and Subaru atm. There's a lot of noise about the 3rd gen of this 86 being a 1.6 GTS hybrid - with mules out there running it already but automotive is a weird world and until it's actually announced and on Toyota's website it's never a done deal. Toyota will be announcing something in 2-3 weeks time at the Tokyo Auto Salon but that might just be the Celica and I guess a GRMN revised Yaris.

GR86 already has more power and more torque. It doens't need a turbo in my opinion.
