With regard to "why not move the fielder where the batter is hitting through ..." for those who are not familiar with the sport, though cover drive is played through the fielding position "covers" which is a wide region a good batter will always place the cover drive between the fielders when the fielders are moved around or alter the stroke and play an off-drive through "mid off" region.
