Designing and Printing Your Own Custom T-Shirts on a Sublimation Printer is Fun!
Переглядів 20Місяць тому
We recently got a sublimation printer. These ink printers print onto special transfer paper that you can then heat press onto fabrics (and other materials). We've made a few fun t-shirts with this already. The only downside is that if you have white in the image you want to print then you're better off printing onto a white shirt otherwise it won't come out the way you want because the printer ...

    I bought a 2020 Bolt Premier from a dealership in Junction City, KS a couple of weeks ago and drove it home 450 miles to Colorado. It was the same sort of thing that you folks did. I had signed up for three different charging networks and figured I'd use a variety, but cruising down I-70 it ended up being easier just hopping from Walmart to Walmart with their Electrify America stations. I had the added complication of having that 80% charge limit dictated by the battery recall deal, but charging beyond that point really doesn't make sense on a road trip anyway because EVs tend to charge very slowly when they start to get full. I ended up stopping to charge four times, and a Google Maps six-and-a-half-hour trip took me nearly twelve, but I was taking it easy and didn't mind too much. I don't plan on road tripping my Bolt often, or maybe even at all since we have an ICE car as well. I've been charging at home with a level 1 charger since then, and surprisingly that's been plenty to get me to work and anywhere else I've needed to go. I just plug in every time I pull into the garage. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. Unless my driving needs suddenly increase, I may not even bother installing a level 2. I'm absolutely loving my Bolt so far!

      That's awesome about your new Bolt purchase! A forced shake-down run as a new EV owner feels like an accomplishment doesn't it? All the stuff you learn on the way is great and then there is the realization of how easy having an electric car is. It's difficult to explain until you own one. Congrats and thanks for watching/commenting.

    2:00 THE exact reason ALL EV owners should know the LIMITATIONS and SPECIFICATIONS of their car and it's ON BOARD CHARGER!!! An Hour and 1 minutes and you are still not to your pre selected 80% charge level. Why? Because your charger is not capable of utilizing the full capacity of a 150/350 DCFC. Which is why it is incredibly painful for guys like me in a KIA EV6 or other similarly compatible vehicles that pull up to a 150/350 with an onboard charger capable of using that full stated power and sending me from 10%-80% in EIGHTEEN MINUTES to be waiting for GM/VW/Volvo/Fiat cars to charge when they have 80KW charger options available nearby. BTW, I am sure you know this by now, but you don't have to sit in a cold/hot car when charging... your heat and A/C will both work while plugged in.

    It's gratifying you had an easier time. But you have to plan your trip to a level that I never have, even in the old days when I was young and very eager to plan things down to the last detail (with AAA's triptic in hand as well). Someday though, thanks to people like you using the infrastructure, I will be able to buy an EV and never think about it. In the meantime, I have a 2024 Prius. It seems that "refueling" with electricity (on the road) is no cheaper than gas, and in fact since it's not as regulated and the stations have to compete on their signs, it's probably more expensive. Indeed, 2381 miles/55mpg = 43'ish gallons which comes to about $135 for my car (which is admittedly quite economical). I'm guessing your estimates would be for a SUV with regular non hybrid mileage. EV chargers can charge whatever they want to for electricity. Naturally as you say, at home, you can charge at your normal rates, though even there some utilities could be quite expensive, especially for peak hours.

    This is useful to me. I test drove a 2018 Leaf recently, but the ChaDeMo charger (almost unsupported in the USA now) and the lesser range (150 miles)are killers for me. It also had the speedometer offset slightly to the right of the through-wheel view, which was annoying. I like that the Bolt has it right there, big number in the middle of your view. That's the one number I need to see AT A GLANCE. No memory for seating positions is a shame, while we don't have that now either my wife is looking for reasons NOT to drive electric, and this would be a minus. I loved the quiet drive, my current car is very noisy with both engine and exhaust, neither of which are present in an electric car.

Two vehicle family, we also have a 2010 Honda Odyssey minivan for when we feel the need to guzzle gas, but I'm hoping we use the Bolt as much as possible round town which is the bulk of our driving. We got solar panels last year and generate all our own electricity (net, not so good in the depths of winter but masses more than we need in the Summer, selling the excess to the grid), so our Bolt is powered by sunshine!

    Great video. I have a Bolt EUV with supercruise. I live in Atlanta and I was finding that while it worked great, there is so much traffic that I get too nervous to leave it on all of the time. I took an 1800 mile round trip drive earlier this summer and that is where Super Cruise was really fantastic. I was driving up I-77 and I-81 and much of the trip had little to no traffic. There were 30-45 minute stretches where I did not even have to touch the steering wheel. It was especially helpful because I had carefully planned the route using A Better Route Planner connected to an ODB2 device and PlugShare so maintaining the correct speed, especially through the mountains, really helped with the accuracy of the plan.

    • @paradisetoday
      @paradisetoday 4 місяці тому

      Thank you for your comment - it is so appreciated! Totally agree that using Super Cruise in traffic takes some nerve. I probably use it 50% of the time when in tight Orlando traffic and even then I sometimes keep my hands on the wheel just in case. Being cautious is smart. But yes, highway travel is great with Super Cruise and I'm glad to hear your trip went well!

    Great video, thanks. I was amazed at the one year growth in available charge opportunities. I agree with you on the need to walk the kinks out of our bodies every couple hours. I'm an oldster so more but shorter charges were what saved me on a recent 1800 mile r/t EV adventure, ua-cam.com/video/QozVP2V4yPA/v-deo.html. I also put together a spread sheet for chargers along my route but added a column showing distances between them. My "charger anxiety" self wanted to know how far to the next charger just in case. All chargers worked for me (knock on wood). I used to shy away from chargers at dealer locations but found that some are networked and are more open to the public. Non-networked chargers "may" be available but comments indicate that some are for customers only. Regarding the Level 2 Tesla "Destination Chargers", no special GM provided adapter is needed. We've found that some of the newer ones have a J1772 adapter built in. Here is a video I made about using one at a nearby food store... ua-cam.com/video/xdAAfkjdUVw/v-deo.html Keep up the good work, looking forward to hearing about other experiences.

    Thanks for the video. I have only done one long road trip in my Bolt EUV and I loved it. I enjoy the planning and thinking about range and chargers occupies my mind and makes the trip feel faster. Like you, my son and I discovered that we prefer more frequent stops with shorter legs and charging stops. We used 80% of the battery on the first leg because we were fully charged but then stopped every 90 minutes/100ish miles and charged from 20% to 50 or 60% in around 30 minutes. Focusing just on the current leg of the trip also made the trip feel much faster. I originally planned the trip using the EV instead of our combustion car because I wanted to show the car to my family but now I can't wait to do it again. On a related note, after driving my Bolt, my brother, a life long combustion car driver, immediately went shopping for an Ioniq 5. I used Plugshare and A Better Route Planner to plan the trip. You can connect the A Better Route Planner app to an ODB2 dongle to get live data about the car's state of charge and much more exact charging requirements. It was a little buggy but the range estimates worked perfectly even with large changes in elevation.

    The Tesla Destination Charger to J1772 adapter is different than the SuperCharger to CCS adapter. You do not need software support for the Level 2 adapter as all it is doing is connecting AC power to the car, so it can use its on-board charger to replenish the battery.

    From your average kw/min/charge it looks like you did most of your charging when your battery was over half full. It looks like the best charge curve for the EUV is from about 20-55% SOC, but 10-55% would also be better than your average. You averaged about .68/kw/min when charging but from 20->55% the EUV should average about .85kw/min and 10->55% SOC would be about .8kw/min. Charging from 10 or 20% ->55% per charging session would have reduced total charging time by about 18% or ~213 min or ~3.5 hours.

    The supercharger layoffs are what made me lean into buying a used Bolt EUV over a used Tesla. If they are laying off the entire team of a product line that we all know is very good (Tesla Super Charger Network) then it bodes very poorly to their future endeavors as a company. Whats next, their engineers will invent batteries that last twice as long, then they all get layoffs after doing a good job. Not something that I want to be part of.

    Glad you're enjoying your Bolt! I totally agree on the bladder being the major factor in needing stops rather than charging. 😁 We've been up and down I-75 from Tampa to Cincinnati and on to north central Ohio many times in our Bolt EUV and Ioniq 5. As several people have already pointed out, the Tesla destination charger adapters are quite safe as long as you don't cheap out on one. Many people confuse the destination chargers and the Super Chargers. Totally different situation. Also, stay away from that junky EA in Knoxville. The Pilot/Flying J just to the west on Watt Road is Pilot/Flying J's flagship charging station. It's a little pricey as are all of those chargers, but way better than dealing with Electrify America's junk yard. The only caveat there is that it's not well situated for all the truck traffic and it can be a little hard to get back out of there. They have another great charger with a canopy up in Georgetown KY just north of the junky EA chargers at the next exit south of there. I recommend abandoning the Chevy app for trip planning and stick to Plugshare. It's vastly better. You'll want to spend a few minutes setting up the filters for your needs and preferences, but then it's really sweet, especially if you make an account, plan the trip on your computer and then save it so you can open it up on your phone as you travel. We have about 14,000 miles of road tripping so far on the Bolt and now roughly 3,400 on the Ioniq 5, and Plugshare is all I use anymore. Happy travels!

      Thanks for watching and for your comments. We'll be going to more of the Pilot/Flying Js as they're rolling out more EV chargers so thanks for the tip. We use Maps+ not the Chevy app. Maps+ allows us to check for nearest EV stations and on-your-route stations in real time while driving (on the car's infotainment screen) and it really helped us out a couple of times. We did use Plugshare for our 2023 trip and it was helpful but thankfully finding charging stations got a lot easier on our route this year and, fingers crossed, the planning aspects of EV long distance travel will become a thing of the past soon!

    • @meandmyEV
      @meandmyEV 5 місяців тому

      Great video! I am sort of shocked to see you using the Chevrolet maps app somewhat successfully. Every time I have tried it, it routes me to chargers that are likely not available or behind fences and it recommends charging from very low to 100% which would take almost 2 hours. I build out my route using PlugShare and I pick only chargers with 9 or above plug scores and then I enter the stops into A Better Route Planner to give me the exact recommended charging times at each stop. The app is not perfect but it accounts for elevation changes and temperature. I also have an ODB2 dongle that connects to A Better Route Planner so it can give me real time updates on my state of charge and expected remaining charge upon arrival at the next station. It worked great on my last trip.

    HI, we just got a 2022 Bolt EUV. We have been mulling over our charger options and were wondering if you ever had a reason to use the charge that comes with the car away from home. thanks

      @paradisetoday 6 місяців тому

      We actually haven't used it yet away from home. We do keep it in the car just in case we need to use a wall plug but never found the need. If we were to visit relatives or friends we will probably use it but since we live in Florida now people seem to come to us.

    It seems like a mix of L2 Chargers would be good for slower travel, save $ when you have the time, are there many available? It seems like L2 is getting left out of the rush for fast chargers. It would be great to see high amperage 48 amp L2s.

      Totally agree! We do use them (there are some at Disney World). The hotels seem to be the ones that have them which makes sense. They do come in handy for slower travel and the Chevy app does point them out along the way and they seemed to be more plentiful than the high speed chargers. Just saw that the Grizzl-E company now makes an affordable (around $700) 80 watt Level 2 Home charger which will hopefully have the ability to be used in retail locations. These kinds of products could revolutionize parking lots all over the country to be EV friendly! Imagine being able to get a few miles added to your battery just about anywhere - your dentist's office, pharmacy, library, your friend's condo...

    I’ve owned an ev for a year now, and have made several long cross country trips. My choice is to charge to 100% while on a long trip. I know it’s a little harder on the battery, and takes longer to charge But I feel I save a lot of time in the long run. My car manufacturer says charging to 100% is no problem once and a while

    Get an adapter, I'm pretty sure you can use tesla destination chargers on any electric car. Fyi

    • @paradisetoday
      @paradisetoday 6 місяців тому

      There isn't an adapter for us yet made by Chevy and we're leery of using an aftermarket one at the destination chargers BUT we did discover that the one at the Hyatt had the correct attachment where we could have charged so hopefully there will be enough of the newer style Tesla destination chargers being rolled out where you won't even need an adapter.

    Yeah I agree with you on the bladder anxiety and so forth. People talk about having cars with 500 miles of range. My arse does not have 500 miles of range, so it's a moot point.

    A thought. A battery operated air pump. They are the size of a cordless drill. and use a battery like a cordless. Harbor freight has them for a reasonable price. Mine was around $150, Battery, Charger, and pump. Just throw it in the trunk.

    Thanks for posting! What apps or payment did you use for each charging stations? Did you have to download their apps or can you just tap and pay?

    • @paradisetoday
      @paradisetoday 6 місяців тому

      Hi, thanks for watching! We put on the apps for most of the charge stations (some provide a discount if using the app). Some of the EV charge vendors do allow for swipe and pay at the charger. In this video, we paid with a credit card at Costco and RedE but used the apps everywhere else.

    One thing I never hear about is the insurance cost compared to a gas vehicle.

    • @paradisetoday
      @paradisetoday 7 місяців тому

      Our car insurance is about the same as what we paid for our former gas vehicle - a Buick Encore. We're paying about $150 more for the Bolt EUV but it's a newer car so...

      Me too, about the same. Value of car & high performance affect insurance $, ev or gas

    You can 100% use a Tesla to J1772 adapter to charge any EV from a Tesla Level 2 charger, the superchargers are the ones we’re blocked from currently. Technically the owners of these boxes could flip a setting to not allow this, but I’ve yet to find one that does.

    • @paradisetoday
      @paradisetoday 7 місяців тому

      Thanks for your comment. I should have worded it better - we're not comfortable using aftermarket adapters BUT (and I pinned a comment on this) looks like Tesla came out with a destination charger at the end of last year that has a J1772 cord in addition to their proprietary charger. The Hyatt House seemed to have had at least one that we missed out on using.

      @@paradisetoday My 70-something parents have charged their ID.4 on road trips at hotels that have Tesla destination chargers, doing exactly what @TechKingGame states, using an aftermarket adapter.
