1. Job Market for Foreigners
Positives:
Foreigners have opportunities in Vietnam.
Vietnam is increasingly opening to Western ways of business.
Negatives:
Locals are prioritized, especially if you don’t speak Vietnamese.
Many jobs are passed up if you don't integrate well into the culture.
2. Traffic and Driving in Vietnam
Positives:
Rideshare apps like Grab and others are cheap, costing around $1 or a couple of bucks for longer trips.
Negatives:
Traffic is chaotic and dangerous, especially if you’re inexperienced.
Driving a car means paying at least 30% import tax.
Narrow roads are not ideal for big SUVs.
Many foreigners have been involved in accidents; it's risky if you're not careful.
Local drivers do not care if you're a novice.
3. Weather in Vietnam
Positives:
The best weather in Hanoi is during the fall.
The central region is hot but less humid.
Saigon has a more stable (though hot and humid) climate.
Negatives:
Hanoi has turbulent weather, alternating between hot, cold, and humid.
Saigon is consistently hot and humid.
Central Vietnam gets a lot of monsoons during the rainy season.
If you're sensitive to tropical climates, the high humidity and heat may be overwhelming.
4. Cultural Differences
Positives:
Vietnam is slowly adopting more Western values, especially in the South.
Negatives:
The local way of life can be a daily challenge for Westerners.
Adapting to language barriers, customs, and a different way of life is necessary.
Northern Vietnam, in particular, is more conservative and less welcoming compared to the South.
We also cover the challenges of driving in Vietnam's busy streets and provide important safety advice.

⚠️ Retiring in SE Asia: Don't Make These 5 Costly Mistakes! #2024
I think the driving insanity is typical of Asia. When I took a taxi from the Mumbai airport to my destination I felt my life was in danger! I was clutching my luggage to my chest as an airbag in case of an almost certain accident. The honking is constant! Taiwan was definitely more civilized. People at least obey traffic signs and lights.
Yeah for sure, ha Life or death to get to the Rice shop Saigon, Taiwan, Thailand (Parts of it) are def more civlized when it comes to driving out side of that..Roll dem dice
Moronic channel...oh, and bad audio.
So a lawyer can't help 'bend' the laws about teaching, but this guy can 'bend' the laws about getting teaching credentials over just one weekend...??? I smell a rat here, this guy's selling something...ALWAYS BE CLOSING...Ciao
What? I am not selling a university degree, and the TEFL i talk about is real but honestly most have it already. This is an informal video A lawyer that "Bends" the rules to get people here to do illegal work i think is a bit more than Bending. I guess your okay with people lying, then "Victims" flying acorss the world finding out they cannot even work in Vietnam. Its a rather big problem that many get miss informed about what is required to teach here and end up having to return home beucase they cannot legally work here If im a rat for being honest, what are the ones lying. Also isn't a rat a snitch? Your smelling seems to be off :)
Maybe you're right. We'll yeah you are right. You'd know better than anyone else because you're there living it. I've applied for over 200 ESL jobs in Vietnam so far this month and all I hear are crickets. None of them have got back to me yet. Even though I either meet or exceed the posted requirements. I don't get it man. My dreams are crushed.
Yeah its getting harsh. Are you already here? If you are going directly into offices or even applying saying you are HERE is a massive plus for them. Also focus on English cneters, public and goverment schools have ether CUT their programs or combined them all with a long contracted PH or Rusian teacher
It's me english, I'm from Vietnam in Duy Hai. Is it brain IQ 999 me english good like and where are you from?
Enjoying the vids. I was wondering if you have any thoughts on Hai Phong as a place to live? Nowhere is perfect of course but I'm intrigued by the place. Do you think it would be reasonably easy to find legit work in that city (work permit etc) since it's a big place with relatively few westerners? I'm 35, from the UK with 120 hour TEFL and Bachelor's degree. Visited VN a while back and particularly liked the north.
Hai Phoung is in fact a great place, i'd take it as one of the best spots CITY wise in the North part area. THere isa TON of work in the area, it has a large south African population as well so you'll be able to "Connect" with like minded people while your there too if you want. Def not few westerns though, its kind of a Hidden yet open spot, as in Americans and UK people i can see it rare to find them but S. Africans def with Philipinos as well, both speak American level english and slang.
@@EndlessTravels Okay great, thanks for that!
you should do a video on how to recognize and avoid ladyboys, use crying game song in the backkground🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I watch so many expat channels and nobody has cover this
Pimsleur is awesome - that really helped me get a decent foundation for Mandarin - great tip. Nice to know that English is somewhat prevalent there. Would love to check it out sometime. I really like the idea of just focusing most of the vocabulary on tuff you hear at the market lol - Thanks for sharing.
For sure Pims has always been my go to. It's always the man taking the girl to the bar and NEVER having enough money story liine But no joke getting past the first 15 lessons ideally has set me okay in any language and country as it goes over money, buying, and locations quickly. Great stuff :)
How much is the TEFL course? I am in South Africa with a degree and 24 years teaching experience but I want to teach in cambodia how can you help me
Hey Kiva, the price depends on what you pick, I don't think country matters For Cambodia you just want the 120 HR TEFL Check this link its 15% off endlesstravelsteflprogram.blogspot.com/ You can knock it all out online, and its accredited from Thailand, same one i've used in Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam.
Everything you said is pretty spot on in my view except one point (cost of living). But the main point you stated is important for people to understand - living long term in Vietnam is very hard and most westerners don't do it because you need a lot of money to insulate yourself from the BS, pollution, etc. But no matter how much money you have you can't escape many things like the poor medical care and the air pollution. Cost of living - I'm going to call out your cost of living claims. You claim you can rent a house for $100-$200/month. Yea. In some remote area detached from everything. That's worse than prison. Complete torture. I pay $1,500/month for my 2-br apartment in VN. I live in the best location. Location is everything. Great location = great quality of life. Living off $1,200/month is "ok" if you want to eat unhealthy street food filled with toxins, travel on a motorbike and expose your lungs to one of the most polluted nations on earth, and not have adequate medical insurance. $1,200/month is bare bottom standard for reasonable westerners. Locals can live off less because they're used it to and they know the ins and outs. The only westerners who can live on $1,200/month in VN are impoverished in the west and don't mind living in similar conditions in Vietnam. At $1,200/month, your standard of living will be lower than a prisoner in the USA. Also, living off $1,200/month is "ok" if you have a lot of money and CHOOSE to live like a bum because you always have the option to live better at any time and you also have money for big ticket items like eating out at nice restaurants on occasion, a medical issue or nice vacation, etc. But broke people who have no more than $1,200/month to live on from the west should not try to live in Vietnam because anything can happen and you will be screwed (you get robbed, medical emergency, etc). At least in the west, poor people can get welfare and thus free food and shelter and even wireless phone service (which is one reason why so many illegals are entering). Vietnam is not a country for westerners to live in unless they have a good deal of money coming in or at least a large savings plus a modest job. And unless they are willing to accept massive pollution in the air, water, food, etc. The people are generally really nice and friendly.
Yeah defently good points, the rent on 100 to 200, if im not mistaken i stated this was a "Connection" this is possible. But this does require connections, typical rent though in a villiage, fishing town, farm town you CAN get away with 150 to 250 a month and its not honestly that badd With the new Visa laws and lack of English teaching jobs though its getting harder for westerns to obtain these places now as its almost impossible for westerns to stay past 3 months in these areas without a visa run and many locals know this. But for those that live cheaper here in VN depends, not all people that come to VN or even SE Asia to live cheap are the typical broke drunks or failed back home. I've meet honestly a LOT of westerns in Laos that live there that are in fact upper middl class (American standards) that live on like 1000 a month and are overly happy. To their own i'd say, 1200 a month though in general isn't that bad, going past that in places like Vietnam means the person is typically in an expensive district and living in a more modern housing or condo which are scams in themselves. I was looking at the real estate in District 3 of Saigon , there are A LOT of properties for rent that are 300 - 500 a month and are 2 to 4 bedroom houses in District 3, 5, and outside of 2 Key point defently are connections, people that move here speaking no language, know nothing of the language, and have no friends here will defently go over that 1200 a month rather fast And those that drink beer, even higher monthly cost of living, which reminds me MOST westerns a GOOD amount of their monthly expensives are related to drinking, bars, girls, taxis, random hotels, etc And welfare programs in Vietnam not there?/ What are you talking about man Vietnam is a Socialist country :)
Got a fiend still teaching there, he said he sees no future in the industry there and was earning more there 10 years ago without experience.
Yeah the pay is def the same if not lower with less exp required. They just want to see a "SHOW" of if you can entertain the best and have that TEFL to legally be there and done. It's been a nice gravy train ride but the Gov removing the requirement start of this year ended it. I'm currently working with 3 "Places" on their adverting and VN teacher training and they are all having troubles getting new students and starting to merge classes and remove teachers VN and native/none native to save on money We gotta get our 70% profit margins, you know how it is ha ha
It’s good to see someone in Thailand, actually telling the truth about how unhealthy most Thai food is!
Thailand surprisd me with the obeasity. I was in Si Racha and a Place calld Klang i saw legit American over weight level people. The food though mostly fried and rich all sugar, no good 7-11 full on processed food..Crazy
So many programs out there that promise you'll quit drinking from one day to the next and feel great for the rest of your life. Listen, Steffon Barkload's latest stuff takes a lighter, safer approach which you decide to go with at your own pace. Best shortcut I go’ogled that only took days to rewire my brain to continually experience mental peace.
Yeah many programs, def no one size fits all For me personally it was the realizing who was in control me or the beer I proved to myself i could not control it so i just stopped and refused to give in to "Someone else's demand" Best decision ever

I would love to invite you come to Belgium
Ohh no way, 3 times was enough for me. Enjoy it though i'll hang out in Singapore and Thailand ... forcing myself to Panama after i wake up ^^
You can talk about insane Visa requeriments that the government put to can long stay I there... And if you get married to malayan local girl can stay without this requeriments... And also how the country become more and more popular in last 5 10 years...
Thats possible, me personally i was removed from Penang because of my passport i used So there isn't much i can say positive on that part. With regards to Malaysia's visa processes long term they do offer good no mad visa options and marriage to stay in an Asian country is rather common in most of Asia. I've never mentioned it becuase its a bit common sense, THailand, Camobodia, Laos, Vietnam, Japan, Singapore, Indoasia, PH, ect etc all offer the same thing But yeah Malaysia offers it as well, great stuff :)
Arguing about red or blue LOL
I was trying to have a clear example - the debates get much more childish....Someone commented below about "7 year old banter" or something, that was getting a bit closer =
Asian people drink like fish buddy, you stay in the wrong country for sobriety.
Thanks, I'm gonna buy 10 honk t shirts when I move there. Too funny!
For you I'll make a special one were i spell obvious words wrong, i gotta have you fitting in
@@EndlessTravels do the locals find humour in it???
@@EndlessTravels your shirt might help me find my future wife LOL
no, they don't really know how to spell after 12 years of ENglish. You'll see wild things like "Gucshi" and other things that make no sense. For a while p0rn Hub hoodies were popular until people started to realize what it really was about lol
But they are surprised when you know a few words
To be fair i am surprised when i hear anything that isn't... "What's your name were you from" "How old are you, are you married" or my favorite randomly yelling of "What the F***/Hell" I was thinking of doing a video for a joke were i just go up to Vietnamese yell "XIN CHAO.. DU MA MAY" than laugh really loud and run off...Wonder how that'd go
@EndlessTravels I can't distinguish or pronounce the few words I know correctly. My fav tho is 44 bum me bum. LOL
Ohh there are so many, yeah its fun Im telling you one of these days imma do a video were i run around Saigon hyelling "XIN CHAOOOOOO" than running off than randomly telling Vietnamese DU MA MAY(WTF) for no reason than i'll get confused when they get angry at me
Now I understand why Vietnamese is one of the worlds' ugliest sounding languages. I thought they were always fighting with each other.
Depends on the person who speaks it in what tone. There are thousands of beautiful and ugly sounding words in Vietnamese
Aside from my native English and Japanese, which I learned to a C1 level in my 20s, I stay away from saying the “bad” words in other languages that I learn. Great tips for speaking Vietnamese!
How much is the salary range?
Its gotten a bit lower from what i've been told, 600 to about 1000 is the range this is MOSTLY int eh captial though. Smaller towns, you're going to want to have some money already saved or coming in because the pay is going to be very low or almost zero if your on a volunteer level. For Laos the capital is the best bet hands down
True. It's all 7 year old level bickering and ball busting.
I was literally the only white guy in bin tan district...and 1 russian guy ( that was it lol)...then i drive to d1 and see thousands of westerners
Ah yeah, personally i avoided most the western areas, District 1, 2, 3, and 7. If i did have to move some where in these areas District 3 was my go too
They been saying that for decades..nothing ever changes...just like the subway lol
That subway, ha ha That whole project is a massive joke i use with my gov friends. I came in start of 2015, and they were "Mid-done' 2 years later JPN realized money was being spent on yellow paint and new cars and pulled out...Meanwhile 10 years later "We just built our first 3 dead end underground entrances That subway is a lost cause
You need to shut up .... dress nice....smile ( be a nice little monkey and go home ) if you try to actually teach and make a difference ( your gonna have a bad time )
Dancing alone to the worst song I've ever heard.... You've come a long way 🤣
Best as in it was free or best as in AI injected it and i was on my way out to the gym and didn't review it first ha ha I does what i do :) :)
Upon review you were not dancing alone - I stand corrected - still a terrible yada yada song 😩
What a cool name 😮😮😮
It's an amazing name i'd say :)
14:49 Scotland is part of the UK and is a country of native English speakers :)
Is it? Man i've meet so many Scottish people in SE Asia cannot understand most, and when beer gets invovled game over But with that being said, some of the funnest people to be around when abroad hands down They are native though thats good to know,, some places around there are not i was told i never know though.
Sup bro.. I got a public teaching job recently.. As a result, not too optimistic about Vietnam's future, lol.. jk, just started, so we'll see how it goes..
On a side note, still putting off my app development.. do you know Javascript by chance?
Hey nice !
Yeah, i used to teach Javascript and pascal at Uni in Saigon area long long ago

Thank for the video David....you Rock 👍👊🌴

Yes, you're right, I am Vietnamese and people here are often too busy discriminating against each other to focus on other races. Regional bias in Vietnam is more overt than racism.
Very much so, and the deeper you get into the culture the inner family discrimination gets even deeper. Family rivalry is a real thing in the culture. Reminds me of a good friend, her uncle sends her son to Canada for international school, the man abuses everyone around him verbally and emtionally being family or not based on his self proclaimed status of his son..its crazy
Where do you go when you cross the cambodian border ?Are there offices with advertisement for visa passport renewel services to Thsiland ?
Cambodia, outside of Saigon is the typical. If your in the north, most just goto Laos for a border run by bus. With Visas for Thailand check their website, Thailand makes it very easy to get things done online, you'll want to reach out to a lawyer or help if your doing a long term Investment or elite visa past that you can do it all online easily, same with Vietnam and Cambodia
How long was the extentuon you got? 15 days ? 30 days ?
This run, it was a full on visa run - I came back with a new 30 day one
I get athletes foot from time to time in hot climates, can I get foot powders or anything to treat this there. Thanks
Yeah for sure, places like Saigon have many western things you can buy IN Hanoi such things check out baby stores, i've seen a lot of these there If your moving out of these major cities, def stock up, your not going to easily find these things in places like Da Lat or sapa
😂 Couldn't agree more and I've never been to Hanoi
The vibe is definitely different here People don't honk like dorks here like before - Maybe its a Dis 2 thang, ha But like it, glad i moved to Hanoi to focus on work i'd get nothing done here - way to much fun here to have
From what I noted in VNExpress, dated Sept 21...'Pham Nhat Vuong, Vietnam's richest billionaire and chairman of conglomerate Vingroup, has proposed expanding English education across the country, not just in public schools but for the entire population.' Might increase the customer population for you and your fellow teachers, David....wonder if I can get some kind of finder's fee. :) Cheers.
It’s dirty, filthy, hot, polluted and filled with crooks
I must be honest, we had no prob running Lotte or Mega Mkt and buying some cheap a$$ noodles. Still, with the PPP, it was totally cool to eat out whenever we felt like it. Fun vid, would love some Banh Mi Trung op la right now.
Oh man you’d love Thailand or japans store markets then they are full on street market status without the honking and dirty meat on the ground I mostly ate 711 while in Thailand for sure
@@EndlessTravels Sure, we went uber-tourist and stayed by Terminal 21 in Bangkok, but it was the daily 7-11 runs which a must. Well, Terminal 21 did offer cheap vegetarian food. Man, wish I was there now...
OHh Pattaya mall yeah with the airplane going though it? Man i haven't heard that name in so long. Yeah that is a good area. THat area is funny though with 7-11 there are 3 of them that are all 100m apart i did a photo of all 3 of them behind me in a post long ago The one farthest from 21 was the best, it had a massive court yard...yeah wish i was there now...Ohh wait 2 more days :) LFG!
