Must do Place you've Never heard of | Relaxing River Camp | New England Highlands
Join us as we head a little further west into NSW and find an unexpected place we've never heard of before.
Kwiambal (Kigh-am-bal) National Park is a somewhat remote reserve north of Inverell where the Macintyre and Severn Rivers meet and create a stunning landscape with a spectacular waterfall and huge swimming hole. Drive through dry bushland of white cypress pines to the Kookibitta campground, one of the two campgrounds in the park, where we had the entire place to ourselves.
Watch as we set up our Jayco Crosstrak, relax by the Severn River and take in the wonderful birdlife. We cook up some Texan style chicken thighs, go for a swim at Macintyre Falls and give fishing a go.
We even have an unexpected encounter with two of Australia's most iconic animals, the platypus and echidna.
If you'd like to help us out with some petrol money or a snack on the road, head to the link below

Sit back, relax with a cup of tea and join us as we take our Jayco Crosstrak to Sundown National Park. It may not look it but the track in was rough and we hardly got out of first gear. NSW parks certainly mean it when they say high clearance 4wd recommended. Although not overly challenging it still took us around 50 mins from the front entrance to the gorge campground. We cook up some pre-cook...

I just stumbled across your channel tonight. Wow ! The editing and camera work is so good. Can I ask what camera you are using to shoot your videos?
Hey thanks a lot. We've got a canon r6 markii, with a r50 as back up.
Looks like a lovely campground, just checking it out now on Google maps 😁 Love your editing, good job 👌 ATB Jason
It was a great spot, definitely worth a check out. Good to find these spots. We ear marked fishermans rest from your last vid. Will hopefully get out that way once its a bit cooler.
Thank you both for another beautiful adventure! 💚 Your surrounds left me in awe. You captured nature at its finest, a serene camping spot. The wildlife was in abundance & the platypus was so cute frolicking in the water. Dinner looked delicious! The closing scene - a picturesque spot for a cuppa... Omgoodness... I wouldn't want to leave!! 🧡 Take care & thanks again! 💛
Thanks Carolyn. We were going in a completely different direction when we saw some photos at Inverell information centre, and knew we had to go. It was unique and unexpected. Getting the campground to ourselves was an added bonus.
Another great video, you guys work so well together makes camping look effortless . Great sighting of the platypus and capturing on video.
Thanks a lot. The platypus was pretty hard to capture. We had so many shots that were out of focus or too shaky, you've gotta be quick to get them. It was nice just seeing it, but we're glad we got a couple of usable videos.
Thank you for the relaxing music and animal sounds. It makes us feel like we are there with you both. Looking forward to the next adventure.
Our pleasure. Thanks for the support and comment🙏
You present us with so much natural beauty. Thank you.
We love getting to these places. We're glad you enjoy them too.
Another magical, captivating and picturisque clip. Many thanks for your efforts caputuring and sharing such stunning and inviting places that you both explore and experience. 👍✅️🙏💯
Thanks for your support, we really love hearing that. We only came across this National Park by chance to escape some weather. It really is a beautiful spot, we're glad we can share and let people know about these places.
Magical. How recent was this trip..?
Thanks. We were there within the last two weeks, full video out tomorrow morning.
Hi guy, Can you tell us how did you book I mean through which website. Thanks love the video
Thanks a lot. You can find the details on wilicamps or the anycamp app, its called Lederville Rocky River Retreat.
A pity about the drone buzz.
Bit confused. Do you mean in our video? Or drone noise in general when you're camping. We try to be considerate when we fly our drone
@ontheroadaustralia no noise from your video and your footage is great. I travel a lot with my 4wd and off-road camper and drones are becoming a problem from both noise and privacy aspects in some places. I recently spent 6 weeks in the outback and noticed quite a number of areas where they are now banned (Coward Springs was the first I saw) I love the footage but the noise is terrible!
What a amazing place the sounds of the birds (We are bird lover) We have looked but we can not find this place. We would so love to visit this place. Are you able to give us the location it not we understand. PS: your videos are amazing thank you
Thanks a lot, the bird life there was completely unexpected, we love love hearing their calls. Go to Google maps, coordinates are -27.9367182, 151.7166645. It's called passmore reserve. If you type that into google maps it will come up too. Good luck, hope you find it.
Fantastic. Your videos are so mesmerising and meditative. Just makes me want to get out there.
Thanks for your kind words. So glad we can share our relaxing adventures and inspire people to get out there.
nice video, I enjoyed watching it. May I ask what the two tables are you're using please?
Thanks heaps. The weber bbq table is from supercheap auto (can't remember the brand, we've had it for ages), and our other one is a San Hima table. We got it given to us, we really like the adjustable legs, but we prefer the look of a timber style top, we'll keep looking...
@@ontheroadaustralia Thank you for your prompt reply :)
That cheese toasting looked fantastic.
The cheese from the Kenilworth Dairies is delicious.
Thank you both for a beautiful & relaxing adventure. 💚 Your videos are so relaxing... they cancel out the "noise" of everyday life...I appreciate you both ❤❤❤
That's exactly why we go camping in the first place. We're so glad we can share it. It's makes us happy it comes across as we experience it ourselves.
Thank you guys.
Our pleasure!
Would have liked to have seen more about the property and not just you guys in the one spot
There weren't many places we could get our van into. Up the river were some nice spots but a bit smaller. The surrounding property is a private cattle farm that you aren't allowed to access.
Hey guys loving the vids may I ask what brand of table you use thanks
Thanks heaps The weber table is a cheap one from supercheap auto, and our other one is a San Hima table. We got it given to us, but we really like it. The adjustable legs are a game changer.
How good is the bakery at Kenilworth? Top shelf. Had to laugh at how shiny your fire pit is/was. We’ve had ours a while now and it’s definitely lost its sheen. Works well though!
The donuts are definitely a must if you're there. It was the christening of the fire pit, don't think it will look that clean again. 😆
Can I ask about how you manage water consumption? How big are your tanks and how long can you stay off grid etc?
The jayco comes with 160L and we have another 40L in jerry cans. It really depends on our showers. We usually aim for around 4 days, but we've never run out. Wiki camps app is great for finding a fill up point, and definitely get a tap key from bunnings. There are taps everywhere if you're bold.
Great video, can't wait to start my adventures. I'll have to go back and watch your other videos to get destination inspiration. Can I ask, what do you do with the ash and coals afterwards when camping off grid? 👍
Thanks a lot. We've never really had a fire where there wasn't an old fire ring to leave the ashes in. We always wait until the coals are cold before we leave to be safe. Good luck on your future travels, feel free to ask for any tips or recommendations.
I must admit that this is the first time I’ve watched your channel and I like it, you two seem to be a cool couple. I’ve watched many many UA-cam channels like yours and must say that people will soon become sick of watching silent films, there seems to be no interaction between you two. I’m not putting you down I just think that you should add some dialogue in your videos, like you two talking to each other and bounce off each other, it would add so much more depth to your videos. I know a lot of people find it hard to talk to the viewers but once you get over your fears of that it will become second nature. Sorry about the rant guys but I do like what you do and would like like to see your channel grow and I think if you do that it will go ahead leaps and bounds. Good luck guys 😄. Smile guys your supposed to be having fun 😁
Thanks so much for your honest comments, we really appreciate it. Well take your feedback on board and hopefully keep improving.
In some cases. Perhaps when it’s a tutorial style video. But in this case their pictures paint a thousand words and speaking would add little. I enjoyed the serenity and absence of waffling on.
Thanks so much we really appreciate your kind words. We're torn because we can see both sides of the argument, but we're extremely grateful that you like the original format we chose. We really want to show the peaceful side of camping, glad it's coming across as we intended.
@@ontheroadaustraliayou guys do what you want to do and are comfortable with. You can’t please everyone 🤷🏻♂️😊
I love your life 🤣👍🏽

Thanks so much for your comment. That's exactly the feeling we're trying to create.
These spots look amazing, just curious, I see many people fish these spots but have never seen a fish caught?
There are Murray cod and bass, but to be honest, we probably don't put enough time and effort in.
Bliss in nature 😊
Totally agree. We love getting out there.

New favourite channel. Not over the top. Not trying to showboat. Nice and calm. Love it
Wow, thank you so much. We're so glad our real approach to camping videos is appreciated.
@ truly a breathe of fresh air. I love watching caravan/camping videos but so many channels are just so full on and it feels like an extreme sport just to watch them! I was put off this week for good until I found you guys and it is such a relief. Love the footage, sounds and insight. Well done
Looks like a great spot! We love camping next to rivers and waterways too.
Thanks a lot. The sound of the flowing water next to your campsite and while you're sleeping is so relaxing.
Thanks for the adventure 😊 Another magnificent spot to camp. Love listening to the abundant bird life, the running water & seeing the beautiful views. The horses are gorgeous ❤. The pizza looked delicious, so did the egg & bacon rolls. 🥰 Thanks for sharing. Take care. ❤ Love seeing your channel grow too!! 😊
Thanks Carolyn, it's the support from all you guys that help us grow. We really appreciate it.
Great video you two, wonderful relaxing camp! My very first video as TT was a camp at the same spot via Paddy's Flat and have been meaning to go back. ATB Jason 👍
The whole area is amazing. So many rivers to camp next to, and most of them are free.
How old is this video ? Is old Grafton Rd closed atm ?
We were there in July and everything was open.
Thanks guys, more simple enjoyment of the wonderful country we live in. That method of preparing a pizza, was something else I'll have to try.
We use a sourdough starter discard which we add flour and water to and let ferment for 3 days. It's kind of wired but pretty tasty. If you want more details hit us up on the email in the description.
@@ontheroadaustralia - Thanks for the response. I'm an experienced home cook - , wife has an aversion to the kitchen - so will have no problem working from your description. I will give it a go!
Hi guys love your shows everywhere. Is it private property how can I find out. Cheers Greg
Thanks so much. It is private property, (lederville station). You can find it on wikicamps. It's called rocky river retreat. Good luck, it's a beautiful place to stay.
@@ontheroadaustralia Thanks I.ll look it up. Cheers Greg
So a 14 foot caravan should be ok on this road. Thanks.
Ours was 13ft and was a bit tight with oncoming traffic. It should be fine. Good luck.

Cheers. Definitely in our top 10 spots so far...
What an amazing spot, any chance you can add the coordinates like in some of your other videos please.
-29.127476,152.359011 It's on the lederville station, you can find details on wikicamps
Another lovely video. Question - why, after taking so much effort to make a nice wood fire, do you cook on gas?
We've just got a fold up fire pit for that purpose. Thanks
@@ontheroadaustralia Looking forward to seeing it in action!
Planning a trip to Canberra at New Year and looking at this old road as an alternative route - Nice video. 👍
It's a really scenic drive. The views of the river along the way are amazing. Have a great trip.
Another perfect spot. Would love to be playing my acoustic guitar in front of that fire..:)
It's definitely got that kind of vibe. Pretty relaxing.
Gorgeous spot..
We agree, really enjoyed spending a few days here.
Great video, looked like it was an awesome spot and great time away 👍
Thanks. It's great when you take a chance and prove some of the bad reviews wrong. Cheers
15:42 recently come actoss your channel and am enjoying the videos. I love the time lapse photos you do of the stars. What gear do you use for those? It would probably work well for tjr aurora as well.
Glad you're liking it. We use a gopro hero 11 on nightlapse mode. Connected to a power bank. Thanks for the support.
Thanks for taking us on another great adventure 😊 The views from the caravan door are so picturesque. The birds life...loved hearing their calls. Oh, and the echidna...such a cutie! 😊 The creamy mushrooms, & the rest of your dinner looked delicious - doing dishes with the sunset as your view...beautiful. Sunrise views - glorious! 😍 Did you stay the 72 hours? 🤞 for a fish next time. Thanks for showing us another part of this spectacular land. 😁 Take care. Looking forward to next time. ❤
Thanks Carolyn. We only stayed 2 nights, but we could definitely have spent another one there. There were quite a few reviews about the noisy birds, but we really enjoyed it. At least there's one less carp ruining the river. Thanks again, until next time...
That apple crumble looked good - made my mouth water! Another great video - thank you!
It was pretty yum. Thanks.
Interesting how virtually no words spoken but the story is told so well with videography. Really cool episode.
Thanks heaps. We've been working on our style. Glad you like it.
