Cumberland Island with Sisters on the Fly
Members of Sisters on the Fly ( the nation's largest outdoor women's adventure group www.sistersonthefly.com ) camped for three nights on Cumberland Island off the coast of Southeast Georgia in May 2023.
Cumberland Island National Seashore offers abundant wildlife including feral horses, varieties of shore birds, turtles, deer, armadillo, possums, turkeys, wild hogs, alligators and more. It is a nature lover's paradise with miles of easy trails through old maritime forests full of Spanish oaks and a wide long stretch of undeveloped beach. There's also plenty of history to be discovered and explored.

Tent Camping comfort with Lost Horizon camping mattress

I'm preparing for a 4-night tent camping event to Cumberland Island, Georgia, in May 2023, and testing out a new camping mattress by Lost Horizon*. For Cumberland Island, everything needs to fit in my wagon so that I can haul it to the campground, which is about half of a mile from the boat ferry dock. To learn more about the Lost Horizon mattress, or order your own, you can find it on Amazon r...

I enjoyed the first real use of my passport by traveling with members of "Sisters on the Fly" to Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands with Gate 1 Travel. It was incredible! There were 9 of us "Sisters on the Fly" and three other couples on the tour, so it was a small group and we all got along wonderfully. I'm so impressed! I've done a lot of camping at every level, but this setup suits my current life. I have a Sports Cove hatch canopy, but adding the decorative flags to keep from tripping over the stakeout lines is brilliant. This is such a well thought out setup! Now I have to subscribe in appreciation.

    • @AllisonCobb0126
      @AllisonCobb0126 Рік тому

      Hey! Yes, good eye! I do still have the Lavabox as my propane fire pit and I do like it. My favorite parts are how small it is, that it has a lid, and that it's lite and easy to carry. The only negative is that the fire will steadily get smaller over time and I have to readjust the knob going to the propane tank. Not a deal breaker, but it does have trouble keeping a steady flame height. This is one of the original models, so that may be improved by now. But I love it when I'm camping by myself. When there's a group of friends, I still prefer a traditional wood-burning campfire though.

      Thank you!! The clam tent has a loop in the top center that you can hang things on. I do have to use my little step ladder to reach it though. The chandelier hangs there just fine and it’s not very heavy at all. If it were storming though, with high winds, then I’d take it down because the tent roof could collapse in high gusts.

    • @AllisonCobb0126
      @AllisonCobb0126 Рік тому

      The Max does have more storage but I’m typically just camping 3-4 days at a time. This Mini is my first camper, so I wanted it to be small, and a requirement was the bathroom. It’s SO easy for me to pull around. I fit perfectly in two regular parking spaces, so that’s easy. Plus I love that the Mini has the keder rail on the edge of it. I have a large awning that slides in the keder rail and extends the living space. I also have the smaller visor I can use. The “awning” on the Max is terrible and small. But the extra space inside the Max is nice. I’d really only want that if I was sharing the camper with another person. I prefer to be outside anyway when camping. The Mini is perfect for me!

It was tight, but doable. They are so close to the equator that the temperature really doesn’t change much. It was warm during the days… shorts weather …. And cooler in the evenings. We stayed in Santa Cruz which is further up in elevation so there was fog and rain almost daily. Closer to sea level, it would be sunny and warm. Bring cash or a debit card. That’s the only thing I wish I’d have brought more of. Ha! Credit card fees are high and some small businesses don’t want to take cards.
