Oh gosh I feel your pain I hated when RPGs started to face out world maps back in the early 00s. There was always something magical about stepping out on them in a new game and most times hearing an epic theme. I'm very glad they've made somewhat of a return through remakes and indies etc.

you know I have ALSO owned Age of Eternity for like two full years lol. also yes I really enjoyed Eiyuden - I think it's still a pretty flawed game but it's got some kind of weird charm about it. definitely recommend, but as you said, not on Switch. the old games I want to play in 2025 are the FF13 trilogy (I'm pretty sure I'm gonna love 13-2) and Rune Factory 4! I've also been enjoying SaGa a surprising amount so I want to get into Scarlet Grace...

Edge of Eternity looks really cool. Definitely going to have to get that one when I get a chance. Also I did play some of Eiyuden Chronicle on PS5. I was enjoying it until I hit an odd difficulty spike. I know other gamers talk about them in other games, but I don't recall it ever happening to me until this game. I got frustrated and put the game down. But as a big fan of the Suikoden series, I have to get back to it.

Persona 3 Reload was easily my game of the year. Persona 3 has long been one of my top 10 games of all time. So it was a forgone conclusion that it would be if they did a good job, and it was absolutely incredible. Glad to see it made the list, even if it isn't number 1. The Final Fantasy 15 mention was cool too. I've had the game for years on PS4 but never actually finished it. This year I finally went back and finished it. It was a fantastic experience. I actually chose to platinum the game in honor of my best friend. I thought his gaming was over. So I wanted to platinum one of his favorite games. Ironically, it actually brought him back to gaming, and he's having more fun than he ever has, or so he told me the other day anyway. As for Rebirth, I just got it a few weeks ago. I didn't prioritize it, because I have actually never finished part 1. But I couldn't pass on it in the Black Friday sales. So I guess one of my goals for 2025 will be to go back and finish Remake and Yuffie's dlc, so i can actually play Rebirth, which also looks incredible.

Easily the game I am most looking forward to is Trails in the Sky First Chapter. I have wanted to play the Sky games for a long time, but I am not a pc player so steam is out. And I tried the psp version on the Vita, but, considering I'm already in my 40s, I was concerned with damaging my eyes if I read it all on such a small screen. Throw in the fact that graphics is a big part of the experience for me, and I'm really looking forward to the remake. It looks incredible. Also I have to say thank you for reminding me about Fate Extra Record. I had almost forgotten about it, since it hasn't been mentioned in a while. As a big fan of the Fate series, I'm also really looking forward to it.

Oh damn we both dropped the same games this year lol. I definitely want to finish them in 2025. This year I took up the task of playing all Trails games. I'm currently in Azure.

I completed the original Paper Mario Thousand Year Door and this game is a faithful recreation of that. You'll have a fun time. :)

I say it everytime I comment on here. Atelier is my favorite series of all time. I’m beyond hype for Yumia. Expedition 33 is another one I’m excited for. And that first sky remake. I’ve always wanted to dip into the trails series and I think I might start when that releases

I'm hyped on Expedition 33, Suikoden 1&2 Remastered Collection (I've never played a Suikoden game), Tales of Graces f Remastered, Lunar Remastered Collection, Trails in the Sky 1st chapter & now thanks you Threads in Time too. But I'm most hyped about Yakuza Pirates in Hawaii. I know it isn't a JRPG, but it is a japanese game.

Neat, I’m also targeting nier replicant next year. Im looking to finish some long jrpgs from last year (rebirth, Octopath 2, legend of dragoon) I’ve got In Stars in Time, Witchspring R , Fantasian, Wild arms 3 and oddly enough Final Fantasy 4 as some of my targets for next year. I did clear some jrpgs this year, thankfully, lol.

what do u mean by bring turn base to the masses? Atlus has been doing that for DECADES

Finishing up Crossbell now, aiming to get caught up by the time Sky 1st remake drops but after five straight games I am a bit Trailsed out. Need some kind of palate cleanser at least , any ideas?

I had been going on a Legend of Heroes "from the beginning" playthrough for years, after only having played Cold Steel 1-4. I'm now replaying Cold Steel 4, so next year I'll finally be getting back to new games in the series. I plan to play Reverie and Daybreak 1, and if I have time, also Daybreak 2.

You definitely need to get ti Eiyuden Chronicles and Thousand Year Door. I've still ti get around to the Nier games 😱

I completed Nier Replicant and the whole time the voices of the protag and Weiss really bugged me because they sounded familiar like really familiar but I couldn't quite guess who else they voice. and it was really annoying me. Then I realised The protag is Noctis and also Alphen from Tales of Arise and the book is War from Darksiders Instant W in my book, though I did end up rage quitting the game because i was on the credits of playthrough 3 and it crashed for the 100th time and I was too angry to do the final dungeon a 4th time.

As a huge fan of Reverie, I do understand your complaint with the overall pacing due to the Reverie corridor interupting so much. It's a bit late but interestingly enough on a NG+ playthrough, you're actually not interupted by it at all. However by that point you've already experienced everything so the only thing you really get is trying out the higher difficulties but it's nice that they thought of it at least 😅.

The Scottish game looks like fun, atelier games triedit 2 times, but fell asleep.

The first one that comes to mind is Trails Through Daybreak. But there where a lot of titles I also liked. Metaphor ReFantazio, YsX - Nordics and Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance are a few of them. I really looking forward to 2025 with Atelier Yumia, Trails Through Daybreak 2, the stand-alone version of Atelier Resleriana and the 3D remake of Trails In The Sky First Chapter.

Oh man an I excited for Trails FC remaster... Estelle is the best! Alabaster Dawn looks great. I still need to play Crosscode... Don't tell FeitoGaming. Threads of Time man.... There's so little to see in that trailer and everyone is so ridiculously hyped. I'm reserving judgement until I see a LOT more. A Scottish guy talking about a Scottish game by a Scottish developer in Scotland???? Insanity! Clair Obscure looks great! The story seems really new and rad. Quartet, Shrines Legacy, possibly My Familiar, these are others I'm sorry excited about.

Expedition 33 has been given a Spring 2025 release window, so my guess would be late May.

A cool list of JRPGs and I always appreciate them coming off of older consoles to be given a new lease of life!

I'm ready to start my Trails journey. Also want to try an Atelier game, and Yumia looks to have a story with some bite. I do love CrossCode. And I Claire Obscura has my attention. I'm also looking forward to replaying the original Dragon Warrior if the HD2D remake comes out next year. (Also want to try the Lunar games)
