24V 10A regulated! Turn ATX PS into laboratory power supply
Thank you so much sir share your experience my smps problem will solved now ❤may god bless you sir
Thanks for the video. Have the same PSU for a HP Microserver N40L... it's dead. The chip you replaced seems good on mine (0.5V on the diode test). There's also 340V across the bulk cap so I think the HV primary is ok. None of the transistors appear to be shorted. The DC outputs aren't shorted either. I haven't figured out what is wrong with it. Btw, is the green wire the power good signal? Doesl jumping it to ground turn on the PSU?
@@orlypalomar green wire is PS on wire. Jumping it to the ground should turn on the PS. If not check capacitors. They may be the reason.
Something i hate when i see high power transistor is blow up.. Mostly ic controller also blow up.. And difficult to find replacement
@@tommybulyan yes. That's true.
Excelent video, for you , wich brand is best for a psu? Gigabyte or Corsair

my laser level fasget 4d wont turn on if i connect it to external power source. like he need original battery with some electronics in it to work. but battery have only 2 connectors to laser so i dont think this is reason.
You helped me to fix mine. Thank you
@@mansoora.7322you are welcome:)
I'd kindly ask for your sources on Google, found one guide from instructables that's really similar to this video but is missing the current limiting part, mind giving a hand here?
@@drinkintea1572 I will try. It would be better to use messenger or mail for that.
Well, after trying the mod and removing most stuff that's not from 12v rail (i had to ground pin3 from supervisor IC to make the PSU start) and at some point in the component removal made my primary side transistors die on me 😂

I know you may not want to respond to this but, are there tutorials (or do you plan to make them) on the DIY tools you use for these repairs? 😅
@@drinkintea1572 there are no such tutorials but I plan to make them someday :)
I have one of these but ive never used it. I want to make a bench power supply. It doesnt turn on. I found a ceramic fuze that has zero doesnt beep on the tone test. What pins were you using to diode amd restistamce test. The fuse being out is defba problem but i dont know what caused it. Its a cougar vte600 80+bronze. I got it at a bin store for 5 bucks. It ls bramd new it was an amazon return I think.
@@NateJones-tk9fb usually fuse blows due to blown transistors.
I have a Gigabyte P650B with similar layout to the one you shown - PSU is giving standby voltage but wont start - no easily identifiable issues. Have checked resistors and diodes and getting unusual reading from the same diode that was a problem in your PSU. Hwr, mine is marked as HSR1060 STC (was unable to find datasheet online) - assuming same as SR1060 (not sure what STC stands for ? - assuming initial H is manufacturers marking ?) All in all getting voltage drop of 0.18V (which seems quite low) and OL in other direction as expected. Beep test is OL on both. When measuring resistance 0,6kkOhm in one and abt 380 kOhm backwards. Assuming diode is bad but not fully burned ? Hoping for some feedback. Thank you.
@@viktorijakovacic5477 Schottky diodes sometimes get bad with reverse leakage currents. Even though their characteristics when measuring with a multimeter might look normal. But on working frequency they don't work properly. So yes, that might be the reason in your case.

@@electronicshaverightstolive Welcome. Too many people don't consider that to earn that $100 to spend, they also spent $ on rent, food, fuel, bus tickets, and taxes during those 2 days exclusively to earn that $100. Repairing a $100 item probably saved that person $130 at least.
@@rafalklepinski7372 yeah. And one day of work equals one day of our life.

One question. How do you know the values and the types of the components burnt so to replace them ? Do you have schematics for this PSU or another similar ?
Most of the time I use similar donor components from broken power supplies. Also after some time you get the experience and knowledge.
@@electronicshaverightstolive I suppose most of these PSU are actually quite similar and the only difference is the power output except those very expensive brandname PSU that may have proprietary designs.
@@nikolaskallianiotis8622 exactly.
That burnt black residue is normally referred to as carbon.
OK. Thank you.
Good , Thanks

Hello Thanks, I am still waiting for the tutorial on how to make a test transformer
Thanks. I didn't make my transformer actually myself. I just took a 220/220 transformer from an old radio and put it in a case from old power supply.
Sounds like the internal cooling fan is noisy. Those fans often go noisy on these fluke scopes. Also the charger input sockets fail often, too. I have several fluke scope meters and repaired the charging socket and fan issue on one of them with a video showing how I fixed it. Mine are colour versions of the fluke scope meters but very similar to the black and white screen versions. Lines across the screen is another common issue with that scope meter. If I remember correctly mine work off the charger without the battery installed. Well done repairing that one, good job.
Great repair. What is the board with the LED that you used to do the initial test?
It is DIY tester, consists of 4 LEDs and 4 resistors. Nothing special.
this model is under active recall you could have just sent it back to deepcool. i had mine blow up and they replaced it with the v3 version in 2 days.
Thanks for the info!
That is pretty fast for a recall... In what country it is? In my country usually it takes more time.
👍👍
good job mate
Hi, what’s the name of this resistor? Where would I find a replacement? Cheers 👋
Hi. Did you mean transistor?
thanks a lot , dear , if you did not replace the IC and replaced only the faulty w1p transistor ,, will it works?
I don't think so.
spray a little of liquid to desolder 😂😂😂 5:10
I have a 65" sony with ac adapter ACDP-240E01. I could actually smell it over heating. Looks to be at the connection from the adapter to the tv. Haven't actually opened up yet to see if its something I could repair
Current regulation wasn't clear, what was the current regulating potentiometer connected to? Also, on a side note, something I've seen in another video, if you connect another double diode (half bridge of opposite polarity) in parallel with the existing half bridge at the main transformer output, you will also get a mirror of the existing voltage of opposite (negative) polarity. So, if you have 12v, you will also get -12v. Connecting accros the -12v point and +12v point will give you 24v output, basically, double of whatever voltage you have there.
Thnx a lot 👍
Long time no see! I waited for your new videos. Amazingly, components of newer PSU looked so complex, but with your master's touch, you were able to repair the standby voltage! Wonderful and exemplary procedures on how to fix them! Another computer PSU saved from being a garbage on the landfill! I hope more and more years of that PSU to serve. Greetings from Philippines! ^_^
Thank you! I repair about 5 PSU each week. Problems are kind of the same, so I don't make videos with the same problems because most people are not interested in PSU repair content.
@@electronicshaverightstolive Same? Wow :o I am pretty amazed. Many people in my country believed that broken parts are caused by planned obsolescence, lack of replacement parts, or just because of the belief that switching transformers and switching ICs were designed to break under too much tension from electrons. And also, fear of electrocution or explosion. I went to a local junkshop and they just gut out old boards and scrap them, so do the steel casing. Pretty sad when I see such, especially if power supply reached past warranty. Are there still people in your town who send their dead PSU for repairs and rely on your expertise? And also for the power supply, do owners there use them with beefy power supply? :)
@@sophiestabilitronics yes, quite a lot of people wants to repair their power supplies in my town. But sometimes it's not economicly reasonable. Sometimes used working power supply is cheaper than repair costs. Official repair centers don't take for repair power supplies lower than 700 Watts.
Thank you. I learnt how to check for short of 12 3.3 and 5v from this video. I have antec bp450p with the same problem like yours. Mosfet, fuse and diode blown. Ordered parts and will try repair. And if I have a series lamp without isolating transformer, if there is a short when i power on, will it affect other devices? Two of my psu got blown and wondering if it is possible!
Yes, lamp in series would help to save other elements if there's another problem.

good video. whats the fuse value? i see normally fuse is glass type what do u call the fuse that is broken in this video ,
As long as I remember there was 2A fuse
My daughter decided to give mine a bath. I had to take it apart to dry out the laser as it was full of water but the 3 very thin wires broke off the small baughter board for the LED. And I'm unsure what order they go back on. I've soldered them back but the laser doesn't work now. Your video skips any parts of this. Any chance of adding a few closeups of the wires?
Unfortunately I don't have the laser anymore.
You make it look so easy which is the sign of a good tech. Good repair 😊👍
Thank you! I'm just a hobbyist:)

Hi. I use the same psu, Few days ago when i turned on the power to my multi plug, there was a single click sound(which actually sounded like a switch was clicked) that came from my psu. But the actual connection to the was off psu was off, i have the whole muti plug connection grounded. After the click there is an ambient noise coming from the psu, it isn't anything loud but it's just so quite that you can hear it which wasn't there before. Pc works just fine. Should i be worried about the ambient noise coming from the psu? Please share your insight on this one, it will help me a lot 😊
Hi. Clicking sound is a relay's turn on. Which is absolutely normal. Ambent sound might be working standby transformer which is also normal. I don't know why it wasn't there before but I think there's nothing for you to worry about.
@@electronicshaverightstolive thank you very much
@@electronicshaverightstolive hi sorry to bother you after a while. But the problem him getting seems to be coil whining. The hissing noise coming from the psu and goes up and down depending on the load. Is coil whining dangerous for my other pc components?
