Why I hated SHUTTER ISLAND (But Love It Now)
Have you ever seen a film and despised it? I mean, it really tore down into your soul because of how disappointed you were by it and you had to try and purge it from your soul? Well, that was my experience with 2010's Martin Scorsese's Leonardo Dicaprio led film Shutter Island.
But, luckily, we now have the gift of home media. Thank god we do, because it allowed me to see Shutter Island again to give it another chance.... And I'm very glad I did.
Comment below if you've had similar experiences to me.

Why I love PUBLIC ENEMIES (2009)

I recently saw Michael Mann's 2009 crime epic Public Enemies with Johnny Depp and that, combined with the fact that I'm currently reading the book by Bryan Burrough, has led me to make this quick video about why I love it so. I think Public Enemies is such an underrated film, deserving of so much more love. I talk about the acting, the directing, some of the historical facts and just why in gen...

The Rise and Fall of the Cinema Double Bill
Переглядів 504Рік тому
'Back in the day' cinemas used to show things called a 'Double Bill'. Essentially, they were two films for the price of one. A day at the cinema - 5 hours of entertainment for one low cost. But look at what we have now. $20 for one film plus adverts. How did this happen? Surely there's an appetite from audiences to see two films for the price of one. Isn't there? Why did Strange World Fail? Disney Animation Studios have made some of the biggest money makers in history and yet their brand new, bright and colourful, family orientated science-fiction adventure film has completely FLOPPED at the box office. If the machine cloned him, then the original Angier died within 2 turns of it. If he was transported the first time, he was killed by his clone. If his clone was transported, then he died the second time when the person stayed on the platform and drowned. If it was random, then he no doubt died at some point.

one question: are cinemas audited by the studios? because how do they know how many tickets they really sold? the venue has a huge incentive to undereport ticket sales if they end up giving most of it to the studios....

Yes the cinemas are audited. These days SaaS will provide audit reports. If your cinema doesn't use auditable POS systems, you will pay a higher rental cost. Underreporting, can trigger a field audit where a person comes in and just counts the number of people in the cinema and this number will be compared to the number reported by the cinema.

It is weird how the first clone was the only one who didn’t seem to be willing to die. So maybe Angier really was transported, with the “man in the box” being the clone. I'd always assumed that the machine never transported anything, it just created the clone in the other location while the original stayed where he was. I find that to be a LOT less disturbing too. Rather than a serial murderer who creates and murders his own close, every clone is simply suiciding while merely THINKING they are murdering their own clone. Across all of the Angiers, only 2 of them every killed anyone - the original murdering his first clone, and then the final clone by letting an innocent man be executed for a murder he did not commit (that no one committed, really, as it was just another suicide).

There's a third way which is the idea that the device works by suspending causality. In that reading of the story there are no clones and it's all the same guy both living and dying simultaneously. I like the reading because it means the non-linear nature of the film can be taken literally. The events are happening out of order as a result of Tesla's machine having unexpected functions. It fractures the entire existence of the subject once turned on instead of just the moment.
