What is the Best Knife for Trail Running? | Adventure for Your Knife Episode 2
I run a lot in the back country. Often many miles without seeing anyone else and sometimes without cell service. It seems logical that one would want to be prepared for survival situations and that means you would want a knife! But what knife?? Well, you can watch and see what knives I am considering...and comment with your recommendations. Also watch me place a trail cam, collect a big chunk of mt. mahogany, and test out my Winnerwell, fast-fold backpacking stove. This video is packed with outdoor action and if you subscribe, you can see what I discovered from my trail cam!

Pheasant Catch and Cook with the Kershaw Culpepper | Adventure for Your Knife Episode 1
Переглядів 4065 місяців тому
Happy 2024 to all of you! Please enjoy this video of a late season, family pheasant hunt. I've been thinking a lot about how my channel and my videos can be more meaningful. I've had to reflect on what this whole UA-cam thing means to me and what I want it to mean. I've been making videos about knives and sheaths which can seem pretty superficial on the surface, but I think upon deeper reflecti...

This may be the most important leather tool I own. There are just not many tools that can do as much as an arbor press. It can help you with so many different tasks in the leather shop. I have been really pleased with the Vevor 3 ton ratcheting arbor press. It took some work to make it just how I wanted it, but has quickly become an essential tool for my sheat building process…and it looks real...

This video is not about knives 😏. It is about my journey to finding the perfect, AFFORDABLE burnishing machine. I use Nigel Armitage's ash burnishing wheel in combination with a Bucktool, low-speed grinder. Links below. I am all in at $224 of my own hard earned cash. No need to spend $500 - $1000. It turned out pretty darn good and much better quality than the Chinese burnishing machines you se...

Trying a new brand of knife, with a new steel, and a new type of grind. Spoiler...I really like this knife (but not the sheath). As a traditional, Buck Knife kind of guy, this knife was a new experience for me. Watch as I try it out on an elk hunt, construct a new sheath for it, and try to sharpen the convex edge. I made this case for my daughter's Buck 55. It is a very simple and effective design. The paracord makes it easy to see and find if it's lost, or you can use it to loop around your belt loop so you never lose it. My daughter never wears a belt so this design works well for her.

    Great job, looks awesome! I’m not sure, but I would just make sure that the beef tallow doesn’t go rancid as I know that is a risk with some oils. However, I don’t know if beef tallow does or not. But either way you just educated yourself without college tuition!

    I like the thumbscrew idea. I suspected you might need something like that for repetative operations. I might be inclined to drill receiver holes in the shaft aligned with the teeth. That way you get a positive lock from the screw without needing excessive pressure. I would be worried about cracking the casting. All and all, nicely done. Cheers.

    My thought for finishing the leather handle would be, instead of wax, use thin CA glue, let it soak into the leather to properly protect it from the elements and then fine sand it to a nice finish. But, regardless of that, this was an awesome build!

    I agree, the BR sheaths are cheaply made. I only have one BR. It is the Bobcat Hunter. Pretty small knife. For the price I paid at almost $300, they should have made it with a tapered tang. The convex edge is very good on my knife. However, there are tool marks all over both sides of the blade. Pretty bad for for the price. Also, the steel is CPM - 154. A good steel for hunting, but not a super steel for sure. For those reasons, I will never buy another BR knife. Let the BR lovers chime in.

    how has it held up after a year? I got a block of otterwax a long time ago and have used it to add some water resistance to a number of my leather and canvas products like boots and backpacks. Never had problem with the boots except maybe I overdid it as it became nonbreathable and sweaty. With the backpacks, the high amount of movement in the fabric meant I had to reapply it more often but it's usually a quick job. I had only used the method where you rub the wax bar onto the surface and used a hairdryer to melt it in. Multiple passes depending on how many layers I want. In fact today I dug up the bar from my tool chest and waxed a leather watch strap to give it some more water protection. Looks great! I love the darkening affect it has on materials.

    Hey, Im actually looking to do this. whats the difference of doing a baseball stitch or doing a stich where you have thread already going through the holes that you would tie together, like a diamond stitch. and would you be manually putting this thread in ( the thread that would line the holes), or could you do that with a sewing machine?

    I like your hot wax dipping method for molded sheaths. Saves from having to harden the leather to retain stiff form. I would not think this method would be good for items that you want to keep flexibility in. I mostly just rub straight bees wax on the exterior of the leather (front , back, edges) and buff by hand to create the heat needed to melt the wax into the outer layer. This process has to be redone periodically but makes things water resistant and will still stay flexible.

    • @wyomingwright
      @wyomingwright Місяць тому

      You are correct. The wax dipping does not lend itself well to flexibility
