"RPG" today just means action adventure in a specific setting with dilaogue options, numbers going up and character customization. The majority think this the certified roleplaying experience and its why the formula succeeds.

I like action games, and the combat is somewhat a welcome... but sheesh is it stale and samey.

Just like Final Fantasy. It hurts my soul.

OMG you're the first one to mention "focus fire the player" enemy AI. I HATE games that do this. I mean I have a ranged mage and it's hard to get a shot in because I have to constantly dodge every enemy on the fight attacking me, even when they're 100 feet away and getting pounded on by my companions. What's up with that??

I'm so ready for this "newer generations are stupid and depressed so they need their games dumb, easy and cheerful" trend to die. You'll never convince me there's not even one gen z out there who enjoys a dark story

"Oof. THAT happened" Brilliant dialogue options, Bioware. But I'm not sure why so many people were waiting for the next installment of this franchise, the only good game in the entire franchise is Origins. The second one is terrible and Inquisition is just passable. Now they are about to screw up Mass Effect even more - the director saying, they are going for photo realism. So that means this will be another 200 million dollar game, they'll probably toss in some celebrity likeness as well bloating the budget.

Fire Emblem, meanwhile, is more like Anthem (the kickass Japanese metal band, not the Bioware flop). Some games are definitely better than others, but the bar of quality has been kept pretty consistently high with the series. Also, it doesn't suffer from an identity crisis. You go from Shadow Dragon to Engage, you'll see a lot's been added to the formula over the years, but the core is still intact despite its creator departing two decades ago.

This series has a lot in common with Iron Maiden. I did a video on that a year or so ago, even comparing games directly to albums from the band. -Once great in the 80s and 90s, now arcing toward awful -Delusional fans who still think it's still good -Doubling down on its worse aspects -Not understanding what made it so popular to begin with

I still think this is a lot better then Dragon Age II, and somewhat better then Inquisition (No Hinterlands and combat that doesn't cause me to flashback to free World of Warcraft trials are the main improvements IMO.) The gameplay feels like a much better version of Dragon Age II with some Mass Effect 2 in the combat system and missions) I las played Inquisition eight years ago, II a year or two after that and Origins/Awakening around the time you did and have able to keep up with most of what is happening so far. (I've reached the point where this games version of Mass Effect 2's loyalty missions have just began appearing)

Yeah this was a “give it 90days” to expose itself game for me because: post Andromeda BioWare. And in under 30: it proved it’s a pass (meaning I’m not buying this nonsense) As I’d rather blow 6-8hrs in the hinterlands each play through 1000 times: (you can do it in 4 but I digress the games a 7/10 either way) be over leveled and ploughed through the rest of the narrative (30-50hrs) and sigh at the 7/10 romance options, combat, and the Keep map stuff… Then eeeeevvvveeerrr hear a character in a FANTASY setting say nonsense like: “So I’m non binary.” Aka: this could have been a 10/10 gameplay with decent role playing and x2 better writing… But if your going to not just break the immersion, you NUKE it???? Yeah…I’ve better things to do, like stare at ceilings or sleep. Vs give money to a company apparently THIS far gone. But your a braver man then I am for trying. Great review but indeed let it be said: BioWare is dead. This nonsense is just the most recent evidence. Take care.

At least Mass Effect 3 for all it's problems had better characters/well-rounded character writing/archs. This game betrayed the RPG elements of the past and gave us the worst fanfic writing of all time.

I have a theory on all this amateur hour storytelling in games and movies. It all reeks of AI-created storylines where they don't want to pay actual creative script writers. Is that the case with this game specifically? Who knows, but I'm fairly certain it's more widespread than most people think.

For long time fans of the franchise, seeing dragon age was like seeing Leandra's fate in dragon age 2. Imagine the pain and horror Hawke felt when he saw his mother got murdered and mutilated by a psychopath. These activist writers are like Quentin and DEI was more wretched than blood magic.

Langoliers! Shrink it to 1 disc. Add the esper stuff as NG+. People would love it there and the devs could meddle with the story all they want. Nomura said he wants to do Dissidia and FF7R is retro actively feeling like a resume for that game. Ya youre right, 1 disc isnt nearly enough money.
