FIXING F9 Fault ‼️ On Acorn / Brooks 180 Curved Stairlift
In todays video I’m covering the F9 fault that can sometimes occur on an Acorn (or Brooks) 180 curved stairlift.
Most of the time it’s a simple fix.
This fault usually happens down to three main reasons in my experience, and in this video I’ll be covering what I did to sort this issue.
First issue it can be is down to a faulty sensor and this should only be changed if you’re either experienced with stairlifts or machinery.
You can buy the sensors online or also via eBay, just beware there are two different types, depending whether your lift is a Left or Right handed lift.
Sensor links:
Left Hand: www.ebay.ie/itm/395769989466
Right Hand: www.ebay.ie/itm/395769980392
Another issue can be down to grease accumulating at the back of the track. Usually degreasing and cleaning the back top half of the track resolves this.
Both issues above are usually the main issues we see, however on a very rare occasion it can be the physical over speed governor assembly. This should ONLY be done by a trained and experienced stairlift engineer.
Hope this video helps, most likely it’s grease or a dodgy sensor, comment below if you have any questions.

HOW TO Remove a HomeGlide / Levant Straight Stairlift 🧑🔧
Переглядів 8021 годину тому
Today I’m doing a general video on how I remove a Levant / Homeglide straight stairlift. Whilst I always advise that you should have a professional do this, at least watching this video ensures you do it safety. If you plan on reinstalling this lift then I absolutely recommended getting a stairlift company to do this, if the lift you’re buying is local, maybe they can remove it too? But always ...

Hi, my elderly neighbour is experiencing a problem with her Levant stairlift. When she is using it, it will randomly stop moving. I tried it and it just feels like the chair can't handle the weight and just pauses. It will work perfectly if no one is sitting on the seat. What could be causing this problem? Thanks Edit: When she sits on it, it takes her almost to the top of the stairs, about 3 quarters of the way up. When i tested it, it took me halfway up and when my friend (who is heavier) tested it, it barely move a quarter of the way up. I also noticed a lot of dust build-up on the chain but i feel like this isn't causing the problem. Feels like the motor is stalling due to the weight. I'm in Tralee, Co. Kerry.
Hi, it seems like batteries are worn. When was the last time they were changed?
@@themobilityguy Thanks for replying so quickly. It's hard to know when the batteries were changed. Wouldn't know much about stairlifts. It was working fine only a week ago and then all of a sudden it seemed like the power just weakened? It will work properly when no one is sitting on the seat. It will go from top to bottom but if someone sits in it, it will only travel a bit up the rail and then you hear a "beep" sound. Then it stops. Such a pity because this elderly lady finds it extremely hard to walk up the stairs. Wish I knew the answer.
It has to be your batteries , the alternative is a motor issue if not, I’ve installed maybe around 500 of them and never had a motor failure. I’ve even seen these pissing out gearbox oil and yet still , the lift kept working 😂 So I’m willing to bet it’s batteries , if you’re getting a stairlift company , it’ll cost quite a bit , for example I’m in Kildare , so going to Kerry would cost a lot. Check my removal video that I just released if you want to see where the batteries are on this lift etc , are you willing to change the batteries or do you need a stairlift company for this? I can advise what to do either way, them batteries aren’t hard to change , even for a non stairlift engineer , quite easy.
Acorn 130 new batteries as they take 2.. getting a flashing C5 code... when I turn the power switch on it flashes C4 ..then goes to flashing C5
C5 means faulty batteries, also check if the isolation switch it off on the side panel , and also check all battery connections are ok. Make sure to check inline fuse from positive battery lead and ensure it’s not blown. If connections ok, change batteries, even if they’re new, could be a bad one.
@themobilityguy thanks... since last night after I commented on this post...the lift goes up and down now...as I bring it back up and it stops on the charging position.. after it stops at the charging position it flashes C4 meaning charging...then blinks C5 for a few seconds...then it blinks C6 meaning fully charged
Perfect, sometimes the batteries can be a bit flat and it’ll interpret as a charge fault, it usually does a battery check within the first 30 secs and goes from C5 to C1/C4. Glad it’s working!
Hi I charge my batteries and on turn on they show healthy green …no beeps on the blue indicator…I put my scooter into drive mode the battery indicator drops to two pips on the red scale and scooter drives very slowly….i suspect you will say battery I just want to make sure ? Thanks
Most likely battery, sometimes , I mean sometimes it can be down to a connection / motor issue too. Maybe get the batteries / charger tested first and go from there as batteries are expensive
Cannot find Relays in USA
Sorry but that’s completely wrong , of course you can, it’s not third world over there …
its an automotive relay, you can get it from a good car spares place JD2914
Great Video. I am in New Jersey and have a scooter that has intermittent no drive issues even with full power. I have to reinsert the key several times and on/off before it takes off. Any thoughts on this? Anyway, thanks again for the fine video.
Potentially a potentiometer fault. Check to see the light on the dash to see if it blinks X amount of times, then pauses, then blinks X amount of times This is called a flash code, your scooter will show this if there’s a fault, if it doesn’t then there’s other methods. Come back and let me know.
@@themobilityguy The display has no faults or fault codes, I believe the go/nogo is due to something in the rear lock and freewheel switch because it usually occurs when i have to engage and reengage after having moved it hand. We appreciate your thoughts and my wife thinks you sound like Detective Perez in Shetlands!
Great info thankyou
You are so welcome!
Hi dont really do stairlifts but i have issues say like on that job i would struggle to charge like even for 1 hours work so i couldnt like charge my £49 for something like that
Oh we charge minimum €250 for a standard job , I learnt very fast that being a charity or feeling “bad” for people , doesn’t pay the bills!
Hello Rikki, I have a problom with the remote of the Stannah 260 actually I lost it but I managed to obtaine another one which doesn't work. How do you adjust frequency, pls help?
My scooter cuts off when I sit on it. It runs fine when I don’t sit on it.
Most likely batteries. Charge up the scooter fully, then give it a run and watch the battery gauge. If the battery gauge dips it’s most likely batteries , but get them tested, alternatively a bad motor or motor brushes. Check to see if there’s a led light on the dash flashing , as that signifies a fault code.
Thank you for a very useful video from northeast Tennessee, USA. Great job. Love your sincerity and integrity, much needed today… especially now in the US sad to say. 👍
How can you set the speed limit up . Don’t know if you’re allowed to tell me or not. I got Pride,Pursuit XL . It’s so much slower than my older Shooter which is identical.
Pride have started using different brand controllers in past few years, so maybe just a different setup. Some scooter dealer repair departments have programmers to make some basic adjustments on scooters.
@ Thank you
What is an E 7?????
E7 is low battery. If this displays the lift will only travel downstairs, if batteries are more than a few years old and you’re getting this regularly , change the batteries.
How can I turn down the sound of the audible beep after you hit up or down button
If you’ve someone who can access the PCB board on the stairlift , just get them to put a bit of insulation tape over the beeper, noise reduced 👌
Great info . Thanks. Advise you get a tripod. To stabilize picture. Thanks.good work.
Thank you glad it helped. You’re welcome . Tripods are so 1990, but thanks anyway.
Thank you… a good no BS review 😁👍
Do you not worry everyone copying your skills and info
Not really considering the fact I literally upload all my skills and info onto UA-cam …. Some people like to protect it and keep it to themselves , I like to share and help others.
@@themobilityguy Where are the batteries on the Handicare 950 please ?, and do you have remove the seat to replace them ?
Does the targeted powercuts cause issues?
Targeted ? What do you mean by targeted 🤦♂️
I guess the days of manufacturers putting relay sockets on boards are over. They are encouraging service companies to throw away perfectly good boards. Creating unnecessary waste and costs for consumers, whilst maximising their own profit. profit.. Great to see that you care about your customers who are dependant on these machines and in same cases vulnerable to unscrupulous service companies. Hats off to you...
DIY electronics here thanks for tip my dad's happy
How much money
Google it
What is the weight limit it holds?
Realistically up to 19st. The heavier the user the less mileage. Also, consider that manufacturers say if you get “20 miles” on a charge, I always half what they say so it’s a realistic estimate.
This would be really good for ur Dad, what do You think?
Who’s dad
Now the trans,axle parts
Nah too much work 😂
Thankyou P,nut🤙
You’re welcome Signed Peanut
Ok dum dum what did you claim all the parts with? Not petrol I guess
It seems the only part of your sentence that made sense was dum dum. What do you mean I claim what parts? I think you need to rewrite it. Signed Dum Dum Btw how’s your mother? Haven’t seen her in weeks!
hello from across the pond ! ive been watching your videos and i have a question that im sure you can answer. I just installed a used bruno sre 3000 i replaced batteries and new charger , hooked everything up and the chair goes down the stairs like it should but when i press the switch to go up i get a beep and it wont move , ive checked all the saftys and all seems good ,any ideas ?? your help would be great appreciated !
I have one and it's great. It travels over untarmacked paths easily and is a fine on grass. We had very icy weather last week and it took it in its stride. It's given me so much freedom. Its appearance leads to much good humour... I'm called 'Hell's Granny' by the local postie. Bikers making the 500 tour often wave when passing. (I live in the Scottish Highlands). Love the machine. It was designed in 1979 and hasn't been altered.
My mobility scooter at 4mph is so sloooowwww
Why doesn’t she just give him a bj
I want stair lift but how can get .
I have such type of scooter. But 7 bep occurs means throttle fault. So i want to buy new such type of throttle, from where can i purchase plz help me regarding this
In between each brass commutator connector. You need to undercut the commentator with the special tool. Or it would be one step better.
Thank you will check this out
Well done!

Awesome, I'm Sold on this Product. I've done my homework, it's only when I travel through the airports.
What do I check/change if the motor runs, but none of the LIGHTS work on it? I have an S-Drive D51445.06.
Hey man love the video, I have an interview for a stairlift installation company today in canada, would love to to have a quick chat if that's possible 🙏
Very informative, I have an error code E5. Can someone please help me figure out and resolve that. Thanks
Code E5 is the Carriage UP safety edge is activated. Check the Carriage UP safety edge for an obstruction.
We have a scooter that won't turn on and when we open the key, only the headlight switch works and the other switches don't work, why?
What was the problem ???
Good advice for me thank you so much.
Hello, Congratulations Cool 👍👏👏
Hi, thanks; it is. 👌
15 km/h and studded tires then it would be even better! so that you can also get through the snow.
