    First year breeding cresties and theres one particular egg that has me stumped. It's not moldy and it isn't sweating but when I candle it, I see darkness on one side and a clearish area on the other side. It's not really red but I can see a few veins. No movement but the egg isn't going bad. Should I just wait until it gets moldy?

We saw the ring/eclipse, but the way they were found, we’re not positive if they were rotated or not….the ring should be on the top of the egg, correct? Congratulations!!! Fortunately, crested gecko eggs are not as finicky as other reptile eggs. We have had a few accidents with ours in the past, and they have survived perfectly. One time, I was rehydration the substrate that all the eggs were in, and my husband didn't see them on the counter. He put his stuff down right on the lid of the container and sent all the eggs flying across the room. I was sure I'd lose them, but every single egg hatched with a perfectly healthy baby! I do put the ring on top when I incubate them though.

    I have a question of you have time to read it- I’ve never owned a snake and don’t know people who own snakes, but I’m looking for a snake to keep me company off at college next year, so think like a dorm/small apartment situation. I’m kinda looking for a snake that is chill, mellow, and doesn’t move around all that much, while still having some personality. Kinda looking for a companion type snake, one that would be content to just chill on my lap, around my neck, or maybe on a desk/bed while I study or work. I’ll have a fairly busy schedule, but definitely have at least 30 minutes a day to spend handling a snake, and doing weekly upkeep (such as feeding, cleaning, anything a snake would need- I’ll do more research on specific requirements once I narrow down the species). I was looking at Rosy boas, but I’m a bit deterred by their reputation of being a bit bitey. I don’t want a snake that is too narrow bc I’ve always been scared of losing a snake lol. But also ideally nothing too long, but the size of a small ball python is fine. Any advice?

      I would definitely do either a make rosy or a ball python. Rosys are a great dorm pet due to their smaller size, therefore smaller enclosure needs. But ball pythons are super amazing as well. They would be more likely to just chill around your neck and keep you company.

    your passion for these animals is so contagious, you can really tell how much you care... its lovely to see :) I have a 1 year old crestie who's bioactive terrarium needs a bit of a renovation... all the plants i originally planted for her have died so now there are only sticks/bark for her to explore. The snake plant lasted the longest of all the plants, but I think most of them died because of the high humidity and low sunlight exposure. Do you have any recommendations for non-toxic plants that can withstand that enviro? thx so much and keep up the amazing work with your vids :)))

      I'm not good at keeping plants alive. I do, however, have luck with Pathos. They don't do the best job at holding up to the adult geckos, but it helps if you pin them to a background or the sticks to help support them.

      If you can find one and you trust the brand, try it out. I prefer them seperate because I have the heat mats stuck to the bottoms of all the enclosures, but I may not always be using all of them. This way, I can disconnect the thermostat from the heat mat and switch it to a different mat if needed.

    Hello again… I have a question for you. I just wanted to know if a new hatchling would eat on its own if I didn't handle it every other day to feed it. It's just I'm going out of town and I have my daughter coming over to take care of my reptiles and I was hoping she could mist and just change out the food. I'm just afraid that the little one may not find food on its own. This one was hatched on Mother's Day. The other two eggs prior to this batch did not make it. I'm not exactly sure what went wrong. I was feeding them every other day and keeping them moist. It looked like there might've been something wrong with their little hands. They looked like a couple of the fingers were sort of fused together or maybe it was just a bad shed. It's just really hard to see when they're so small. Thank you so much for the information and also is it normal when you first put two geckos together to have something wrong with the first couple clutches?. This is just a little Home project. I am not selling them or anything.

    • @creaturecove
      @creaturecove 2 місяці тому

      Yes, your hatchlings should eat on their own right from the egg. I just hand feed and handle often to make sure they are well conditioned for their new homes. Make sure not to feed at all (just mist at night) the first 3 days out of the egg. This is when they learn to eat their own shed skin. If you feed too soon, they may never pull their skin off and this could lead to life long shedding issues. Do you just have 1 pair together? It can be normal for the 1st clutch to be infertile, maybe even the 2nd, but they definitely shouldn't continue to be abnormal. It sounds like something could be wrong with their conditions or with the parents being bred together.

    • @carlakellie6674
      @carlakellie6674 2 місяці тому

      @@creaturecove thank you so much for your reply. I had those two separated and they were in about 74° in little shoebox containers. Maybe I fed them too soon. I think I did after the second day. The little one I have now is from a clutch that only was one egg by itself. I guess that might not be called a clutch, but she only laid one that month.

    • @carlakellie6674
      @carlakellie6674 2 місяці тому

      @@creaturecove I wonder if there isn't enough ventilation in there shoebox bin. I have put numerous holes on the sides and on the top. Also, both clutches hatched at around 84 days, is that too soon do you think? I live in AZ. So it's hard to find a room that is under 74° so that is about the temp that they are living in. It's so sad to watch these little ones thrive a little bit and then just decline and pass away.😣

    Do they not need a basking lamp?

    • @creaturecove
      @creaturecove 3 місяці тому

      You can opt to use either a basking lamp or belly heat. We choose to use belly heat since our reptile room is around 75°f - 80°f. You usually only need one or the other unless you keep your house pretty chilly. We have had a few winters we have needed to add ceramic heat emitters to maintain the cool side.

  • @6strings735
    @6strings735 3 місяці тому

    VE racks are very nice. The tubs are nice and thick, and what that means is that there has to be something in the tub to trap heat. While 1 paper towel layer is better than nothing, more heat would be trapped if you use "packing paper" which is available online, Amazon or at Home Depot or Lowes and similar. It is unprinted newspaper, and it holds heat very well underneath it. Do like 4+ layers of that, and you will notice the temperature holding better. Plus the rosies will go under it and love it. And it is less expensive than paper towels if you go by the square foot.

    • @creaturecove
      @creaturecove 3 місяці тому
