    The reason people don’t believe Kris Knight is because they don’t think Noelle and Berdly would just walk into a dark world. It doesn’t make sense for a character to walk through a door with infinite darkness coming through (and therefore they argue the knight was present when Noelle and Berdly were there). However, I would like to remind everyone that THAT’S WHAT KRIS AND SUSIE DO IMMEDIATELY IN CHAPTER ONE

    I personally don’t think Kris is the Knight, but up until very recently I did. My new idea still requires most evidence of Kris Knight to be true, however, but it also helps to establish the meaning of some of Deltarune’s stranger motifs, namely the idea of “Demons”. If you don’t believe me, let go over all of the examples of demons playing a role in the game’s plot: Gaster’s motif with 6s, Kris’ devil horn headband, interest in the occult and demon summoning, and having attempted to in the past, Both secret bosses explicitly mentioning “Hell” (and explicitly distinct from characters like Susie just using it to convey emotion, like “what the hell?”), and Jevil in particular relates it to the idea of the Depths, which relates it to Gaster again, Kris has Apple imagery associated with them, which is the symbol of the forbidden fruit from the garden of Eden that Eve was tricked into eating, causing humanity to gain “free will”, which is also a core motif of Deltarune. Kris is also called Lightbringer, as you pointed out, which means Lucifer. This is particularly important because Lucifer is simultaneously an angel but also a demon due to having “fallen from Heaven”. However, due to this fallen angel imagery, it may in fact be more likely that the idea of Lucifer refers to US, the soul, since it literally descended from our world (which could be though of as a lighter world than theirs, or Heaven) into theirs. It could actually simultaneously refer to us and Kris, depending on context, since I suppose Kris ALSO descended into theirs dark world. It’s also important to note the imagery around Ralsei’s castle, particularly the locked door on the first floor, which depicts the soul on the door, while having 3 sets of wings surrounding it. All other doors have only 1 set, but the 3 wings are significant because it refers to Seraph angels, the highest rank under God, and the same rank as Lucifer before he fell. Also consider that the term “Prince of Darkness” refers to Satan. The game of course already features Angel imagery, with the prophecy, including the Crown of Thorns reference for Noelle, but it’s important to know that there are Angels because Deltarune is all about Duality of Opposites. Light and Dark, Reality and Dream, Determination and Determinism, Free Will and Under Control, Hope and Hopelessness. If there are angels and Heaven, then demons and Hell only makes sense. And, if we know they both exist, we can again further connect Ralsei to them (even without his relationship to Gaster) by knowing that his prophecy explicitly stands AGAINST angels and Heaven, making him the side of demons and Hell. Do keep in mind that this doesn’t explicitly mean “Good and Evil” though, Toby has always played with that idea of morality being separate from that of the sides of conflict. With all of this in mind, I think it’s simple to suggest that Ralsei is a demon, and could potentially have made a deal with Kris that allowed him to possess their body, while granting Kris a benefit in return. This explains two things for us, being how Ralsei travels between dark worlds without having a visible object on Kris, but also why Kris moves like a zombie without the soul. They’re almost literally a corpse being puppeted by a demon without the soul. The deal Kris made was almost certainly related to the idea of improving the lives of them and others in their life, as the dark fountains represent the idea of change. Oh, speaking of the Knight in the biblical context, last I read, Knights in the bible symbolize those who follow rules, save others, and prepare for battle ahead of time… that’s literally a character profile of Ralsei. And, Kris can still be a part of the whole thing.

    If the knight didn't start the recording in the computer lab then that would have interesting implications within the last-thursdayism of dark worlds. Queen witnessing it through her webcam retroactively records the event.

    the thing about kris knight to me is that people always have something to nitpick about it and maybe can provide a case against one piece of evidence, but... they can't disprove ALL the evidence. its a theory made up of individual pieces that all comes together to form a really compelling case, and if you want to disprove one piece ("they saw the knight in the dark world!" "berdly and noelle were studying when it was made because of the books!") you also have to explain away the rest (plugged in tv indicating careful planning and knowledge of how to make dark fountains prior, kris's odd tiredness at the start of ch2 emphasized by the narrative, the pie tin knife being different from the dark fountain knife, several indications that berdly and noelle were not actually in the room when the fountain was made) and i've literally never seen a debunking that accounts for ALL of these. everything in the game right now is pointing towards kris knight. you have to make a HELL of a lot of stretches to debunk each and every piece in a way that forms any other narratively satisfying candidate.

    • @blueberrimuffin6682
      @blueberrimuffin6682 3 дні тому

      you can't disprove all the evidence for any candidate. i see it as we just cannot know where the story will go with any amount of certainty with the information we have, as multiple people realistically have the CHANCE to be the knight and none feel particularly narratively satisfying at the moment, for me.

  • @NightWing1800
    @NightWing1800 3 дні тому

    On the point of the knight having to be consistent, this isn't true in the theory of there being multiple knights. If there's more than one, then that explains why a knight could enter enter the card kingdom but not the cyber world. While I do think that a unique knight for each world is off the table, just because I don't think there's enough space in the story to satisfyingly explain that many characters having that role, I do think it's possible there was a different knight for card kingdom and then subsequently Kris saw that and was inspired to function as a knight of Cyber World and the chapter 3 TV dark world. It's more complicated that way and does take more work for the story to justify to us, but I think it could make sense that way. Like if we assume Kris' motive for acting the way they do has to do with Gaster's influence or with us, then it begs the question of why and when they would open the first one. Presumably both of those events happen when we start the game. We would either have to assume that first dark world had nothing to do with our influence on Kris, or assume it wasn't Kris' doing.

  • @Missingno_Miner
    @Missingno_Miner 3 дні тому

    It really does bug me when people acknowledge that the Knight clearly did not enter the Cyber world, but fail to retroactively apply the same logic to the Card Kingdom. 23:05 I don't see it mentioned enough that this is the *exact same assumption* Queen made. Like, it's not just him doing the same thing as Queen, it's him coming to the exact same conclusion of "cover the world in darkness, and I can rule over it all", the only difference is their reason for wanting this. It could not be more blatant of a hint that King, too, is only acting based on his assumptions of what the Knight wants, which as with Queen are heavily biased by what he wants and by the fountain's influence on him. The Spamton lines about the Knight are a major pet peeve of mine, and I really don't agree with your assessment of the Q&A lines. I am strongly of the opinion that the Q&A was meant to tell us that Spamton doesn't know anything at all about the Knight, and was just talking out of his ass to keep Kris' interest, pretty simple manipulation stuff. Kris brought up the topic, Spamton jumped on it to pretend that he knew more about it than he actually did, and then either he freaked out for no reason like you said, or what I think is more likely, he deliberately faked his panic attack(Which we know he *can* do, he's fully aware of his dialogue quirks, by his own admission does them intentionally at minimum most of the time, and can freely drop them to speak normally when he wants to) in order to force a change in topic without needing to prove his supposed knowledge by making something up about the Knight that Kris could potentially know is a lie. And it works: Not only did Kris drop the topic like he wanted, but he successfully fooled us to the point that I've seen people flat-out insist he was lying during the Q&A, where he has no motive to lie and him lying would actively defeat the point of the Q&A, as opposed to the shop, where he very much has a motive to appear more knowledgeable than he is: Keep Kris interested, keep Kris talking, keep them wanting to help him and ideally buy some of his junk as well. At the end of the day, Jevil(and Seam) just have more of that "Gaster-pilled" foreknowledge than Spamton, which aligns with how Jevil actively knows that Queen will be the next chapter boss, whereas Spamton only knows *of* Mike/Tenna/whoever tf the TV Darkner is, and at no point implies that he knows we'll face them next. Also, I don't think King knew Queen would be the next boss, I just think he reasoned that if the Knight keeps opening fountains, eventually the heroes would come across Queen and have to fight her. It's a case of plain old dramatic irony, as he did not know that we've already faced Queen and fully believed that Queen would defeat the Lightners. It's humour, he hypes up Queen in an attempt to intimidate Kris, Susie, and Ralsei, only to be told he's too late for that and they've already dealt with her, right before Queen herself walks in and casually informs him that she's adopting his son.

    Or, radical thought: "heroes" and "villains" are black and white simplistic categories and since Deltarune is a darker, more mature grown up work compared to Undertale like kissy cutie 2, whether or not the Knight or Kris is a villain is the wrong lens to look at this through and the situation might be more complicated than one thing being all bad or all good. Kris being the Knight just means they're the Knight, the morality of opening dark fountains has yet to be seen or judged, as they can bring both good and bad things and requires further investigation and examination.

    Regarding 7:59, most, if not all dialogue Spamton says, no matter how bizarre and nonsensical it seems, is related to what Spamton is currently doing or talking about, so to strengthen your point, it's more likely that Spamton saying this *does* mean something.

    Few interesting points in favor of this theory in works outside of Deltarune. Undertale, obviously for one - the themes of trying to steal the soul are introduced to players before we even knew Deltarune existed, with a lot of setup for the kind of apocalyptic power that a human and monster soul coming together could hold. We know Undertale actually came second, even, as there's unedited Jevil dialogue that Toby has explicitly shown us predates even the release of the Undertale demo. Meanwhile obviously the entire Geno route is ABOUT how ultimately, as wonderful and deep as Undertale is, it's a fundamentally limited world with only so much to do in it, and Deltarune has a habit of interrogating a lot of the themes introduced in Undertale in its own unique, often more nuanced and messier ways. It's part of why I've always expected that in the end, whatever happens, even Castle Town's Dark Fountain will be sealed. Then, one of Toby's big RPG inspirations, Live-A-Live. The final chapter in that takes the protagonists of each section and brings them together, with a main leader/hero chosen by the player at the start of that sequence and given extra focus... BUT, there's one specific setting you can choose where instead you go and do a boss rush, playing through every final boss of the original scenarios AS the boss, which can even end in the total erasure of reality if you use a special ability you only unlock by getting your playable-boss to critically low health. Reminds me a lot both of the idea of a playable Noelle leading the final boss and the fact that she unlocks a uniquely lethal "spell she doesn't know" if you push her to the mental breaking point on the Weird Route. Then of course, there's Moon Remix RPG, possibly his favorite weird RPG of all, which... I haven't played, but I understand plays with a lot of similar ideas to Undertale and Deltarune, both on the level of trying to impart lessons of kindness and empathy, and on understanding that ultimately, a game, a fantasy-world, whatever else, is JUST that, and whatever value you get out of an experience like that, it's vital to go out into the world again to carry that spirit into real life instead of just trying to squeeze more and more out of these escapes from life. The game can only have a happy ending if you let it have a happy ending, and Noelle might just want the fantasies of the Dark World to carry on forever. I also think about some more modern indie RPGs I'm sure Toby is aware of. Off having the Batter and Judge endings, where the latter is the "good guy" but his fight is genuinely pointless, as the world is already all but destroyed. Omori, which Toby contributed to and his friend Omocat created, having an alternate route where you completely ignore the non-dreaming sections of the game and get a much bleaker end-state for it, but the final day extremely dramatically expands the more traditional-RPG dream world and gives you a crazy amount more to do in it, you get all that awesome fun content, superbosses and bonus areas and new sidequests, and the terrible feeling in the back of your head about how empty it all is, how you've doomed the protagonist to never face his traumas even as they continue to taint this very dreamspace. These are obviously weaker than studying the kinds of RPG Toby was inspired by, but the generation of indie RPG dev he's a part of is full of people whose games question and interrogate the fundamental conventions and assumptions of the genre.

    I feel that a lot of Kris-Knight non-believers don't update their views on chapter 1, despite everything we've learned in chapter 2. King's dialogue is written in a way that implies he met the Knight in person, but he never outright says that. We were meant to have that impression so the identity of Knight remains a mystery. But the information learned in Chapter 2 should recontextualize King's lines. Queen confirms that she never met the Knight, she only assumed what their will was based on their actions. That obviously implies that King did the exact same thing. Another example: Kris removes their soul near the end of both chapters. In chapter 1, we don't get to see what they're planning to do. Then in chapter 2, Kris removes their soul in order to open a Fountain. With that information in mind, what other action could Kris have possibly taken between chapters 1 and 2 that required them to toss out their soul? We know that they ate the pie, but did they really need to toss out the soul in order to do that? Was Kris just so desperate to eat a goddamn pie that it was worth having to limp downstairs? Or did they NEED to eat the pie, because they were already hatching a plan to would force Toriel to invite Susie for a sleepover? The actions taken by Kris between chapters cannot be anything but: eat pie, plug the TV on, and open the library Fountain. If you remove the last step, then it makes no sense why Kris prepared the sleepover if they didn't know how to open Fountains yet. Tl;dr Kris-Knight non-believers take chapter 1 at face value and don't consider the new information learned in chapter 2 when talking about it.

    It's one of those things where i can see it easily be explained that the Knight is unique and can just leave Dark Worlds because they're special for some reason. But it's just so much easier to assume that they haven't entered any of their Dark Worlds, and that's a big blow to most Knight theories outside of Kris Knight and a few others. For example, if Alvin created both of the Fountains, then you need to answer why he decided to make a giant magical glowing darkness beam and then just turn around and not experiment with it. Sure, maybe he has complex plans, but that can be said about any Knight candidate and it makes more sense when applied to Kris since we have already seen them create really elaborate setups for Dark Worlds with the prep they did for chapter 3. I also think that with what you mentioned about communion that it could even be a double meaning. Yes he's talking about how he's connected to Gaster, but since Gaster is associated with devil imagery then Spamton calling his connection with Gaster "communion" could be a sort of sacrilegious imagery to further the satanic connection. (Also, I'm placing bets now. In a later chapter, King is gonna mention that he never met the Knight, and Susie is going to give him shit for pledging his life to someone he never met)

    This video highlights a great point about a lot of the cases against - so many of them rely on taking scenes or dialogue out of their intended contexts on the presumption that they're meant to 'disprove' what we were straightforwardly shown and told, which makes it feel like they think the entire game's story, presentation, and theming is meant to take a backseat to some sort of gamewide whodunnit. A lot of it distracts from more interesting questions and makes weird assumptions that don't track like the subject of this video.

      Instead of responding to the stupid arguments that the casual fan brings up hear these ones. 1) Kris couldnt break in the library at night since there are no signs of break in the day after, which already invalidates completely the theory. 2) If the fountain was created the night before Ralsei should have warned us abt it. And even if he was evil, he should have still warned us because if it wasnt for Noelle's invitation and the traffic we could have just skipped it.

    • @jacobkakyoin6882
      @jacobkakyoin6882 3 дні тому

      @@marinagaleotti 1 - Why would a break in be necessary? There’s no reason to assume the library itself would be locked overnight unless there’s an explicit reference to it somewhere we’ve missed, and if you mean the locked computer lab, the keys for that would probably be in the library itself. Hometown is a very safe place where even most crime is harmless and silly, so places that are meant to be open to the public… likely stay open to the public. 2 - Ralsei is working with Kris to some unknown but explicit capacity, which probably involves creating and then sealing the fountains to get stronger to some presently unknown end, but even taking away the obvious knight-proof it’s still clear they’re colluding behind your back. OP actually has a video going into the likely specifics but that much is known, and from there, he certainly would have pressured you-the-player and Susie to visit the library no matter what. This is also assuming Kris doesn’t have the foreknowledge to know that Noelle would end up there, when a lot of their actions make it far likelier they do know a lot more about what’ll happen than they let on (see: eating the pie and plugging in the tv between chapters leads to a chance to slash the tires leads to Susie staying over leads to Susie being there when they open the Dark Fountain). This is exactly what I’m talking about, tbh. The assumption about the locked library, and even some telling wording on “even if he was evil.” Ralsei is definitely hiding pertinent information from us. Him being an accomplice to the knight does not necessarily mean he’s evil, if anything assuming he’s basically as benevolent as he seems should transfer over and tell us not to take for granted that people he’s working with are bad guys.

    • @marinagaleotti
      @marinagaleotti 3 дні тому

      @jacobkakyoin6882 we can assume it's not locked but I dont see any proof pointing to that being the case. Toby put flavor text for a plugged tv, wouldnt he just make someone like Berdly say that the door wasnt locked up? And why would kris know that the door isnt locked? Sure he was gasterpilled when they were 8, they still remember the information Wing Gaster gave them abt a very specific day and time years in the future just because kris wanted to create a fountain there specifically? Your argument "Oh kris had everything revealed as a toddler" is the only way you can stretch the truth to always be right. Proving an argument with speculation doesnt work, libraries get locked up at night so until further proof the library was locked. Kris is a teenager so until further proof they dont have universal knowledge of everything. Also the pie doesnt prove anything. I heard the story if deltarune before playing it, when I got around to play it with prior knowledge it was made pretty clear that kris got up from bed because they just were hungry. YOU said we take things and decontextualise to prove a point. That's literally what y'all are doing with the pie situation.

Knowing Noelle and Berdly are partnered on the class project is all it would take for someone who knows how academically serious both of them are to know they’d hit up the Library together - the traffic jam helps, sure, and makes it impossible someone from outside snuck in during the day. Making friends with Susie is all that’s required to be able to guarantee she visits Toriel, especially knowing their relationship goes back further and deeper than it seemed in chapter 1, and the pieces to create a Dark World in Kris’ house started falling into place the night after they became friends. While the idea of them as some 5D chess mastermind isn’t actually absurd because it’s an RPG, nothing they’ve done so far is unreasonable for a smart, sneaky kid who understands how their friends and family are likely to act to pull off. Kris has agency. Kris has plans. Kris allows control from the soul to help realize these despite hating the implications of being a strung up puppet to the point of finding Spamton terrifying, works with Ralsei despite evidence pointing to being creeped out by him. They’re also a weird goofy edgy teenager whose default state is messing with people. It probably isn’t false that they were hungry, but eating that pie still sure ended up working out perfectly for the end of the chapter. It feels belittling to the main protagonist of the story to insist that none of their actions are meant to be considered in the context of one another, and storytelling-wise the bookending of the chapter is obviously important. Chapter 2 starts with us finding out that while we weren’t watching, overnight, they ate the pie and plugged in, but did not watch, the living room TV, and Chapter 2 ends with the consequences of those two actions. We’re told to ask “what is the significance of Kris’ actions while we cannot control them?” and so many people want the answer to be “nothing, they weren’t thinking, they’re just silly and impulsive,” which… Where do people think Kris’ conflict with the player is GOING if they think so little of how they act when they have agency? Also, 24-hour libraries absolutely exist, not to mention ones that are open late, so the argument they don’t is wild. In real life, they tend to be connected to universities, but some parts of Europe also have them for public access, and even go staffless for much of it, able to be accessed with a library card at all hours. I’m not saying Hometown’s work like this without evidence, of course, just countering the claims of realism and certainty the place would be inaccessible at night. Because trying to cite real world norms in a setting that’s repeatedly shown us it doesn’t always run on them is flawed on principle. All of that aside, every single logistical concern people pull out about library security would be just as much of a problem for any other knight suspect unless you’re dead certain someone who works there is the culprit, and… it obviously isn’t Berdly, given he can straight up die and the story continues on fine without, and anyone less important that frequents it is fundamentally unserious to even float as a culprit.

Not to mention that it is also implausible that from 8 am to 2 pm circa no one visited the library computer room before the dog and noelle and berdly. Again possible but unlikely. Also not that I believe that but maybe the tv had buttons so kris watched without searching for the remotes. We see kris turning on the tv with buttons at the end of the chapter so it's possible ig. @@blackchestnut Oh hey. I just realized. I already watched that video a while ago. I remember not liking it because of many things that I disagreed with. The argument is pretty good, never heard of it before (and even forgot about hearing it the last time I watched that video). Noelle and Berdly were standing next to the table when the fountain got closed and they fell asleep from Ralsei’s spell, dropping their books on the desk. I first thought that it refutes my argument, but no, there are inconsistencies. If people really are teleporting to the position in the light world relative to their dark world position, then why Berdly is still behind the desk in the weird route, when he becomes a frozen chick in the city area? And if we are talking about inconsistencies, why the desc? Didn’t they stand on the cabinet? For me, it seems that their light world positions remain unchanged from when they enter a dark world. The castle town is a bit weird again as we can move to another dark world from it. Maybe it’s just the only way you can change your light world position: by moving between dark worlds or into the light world. Or maybe it will turn out that only castle town allows you to move between dark worlds. The reason why Kris and Susie were next to the table is because they jumped into the room (or just walked 2 steps towards the desk after sealing the fountain). Also the books were placed carefully in front of Berdly and Noelle and not scattered on the desk or under their heads. So they probably placed those there themselves before the dark world thing. And I also add that people don’t use chairs too much in Deltarune. School (at least Kris’s class) doesn’t have chairs for example. There was also an argument that there was not enough time to create a dark world. The average time between meeting Noelle at school and entering the cyber world is about 30 minutes. Creating a dark fountain takes about 10 seconds and then about 1-2 minutes for darkness to spread. It gives us 27+ minutes for Noelle and Berdly to walk to the library, get put to sleep (probably), wake up (if they were sleeping), have a chat between Queen and Berdly, have a fight between Queen and Noelle and we will still have 15 minutes on top of it. I also add that Deltarune doesn’t account for speedruns or long afking. You can speedrun chapter 1 in 30 minutes and still come out in the evening, after the class. You can also afk for as long as you want in either world and no time will pass. You also say that there was not enough time for a resistance to form. Well I disagree. It doesn’t take much time for a three men resistance to form. Especially if those three men know each other (I don’t remember if they knew each other but I assume it from their looks). When someone rises to power and announces some kind of change, some people will immediately protest it. The thing that takes time is gathering a crowd or starting a revolution which they still did just 3-4 hours later (on avarage), by the end of the chapter. You also said that Noelle and Berdly would be seen on the recording of fountain’s creation, but in this new video you mentioned the smoke that is presumably the reason why you can’t see Kris on that recording. So, it works for this too. The idea that Kris knight would not work as a red herring because someone would just call them the knight is just so wrong. I immediately recognized that that’s the video I watched back then after I heard the next argument. In either of the two chapters normal darkners did not know much about the knight. Usually only bosses at the end give a plot dump about them. So, it would take an entire chapter to get to the confrontation about Kris creating the fountain. An entire chapter of you playing as someone who you think is the main villain. And it would have worked very well (you once said it took people multiple days to figure out that Kris might not be the knight). Then some new evidence would probably drop, like a character saying that they know the real knight, or another dark fountain being discovered that was clearly not made by Kris. Or there are many other options. But it is not yet the reason I recognized that video. The real problem with that argument is that Kris did not say a word. And you say that if a darkner called them the knight, it would prove Kris knight theory. But if they did call them that way, it would actually be in favor of 7 knights theory. Because it would mean that anyone who makes a fountain, automatically becomes the roaring knight in the eyes of the darkners of their dark world. I also disagree with the idea of us being able to figure out who the knight is (if it’s a red herring), the way I see it is that ch2 would start the Kris knight red herring. At that point, lots of evidence will point towards Kris to make it believable but will appear to be flawed or uncertain on close examination, so that after revealing the true knight it won’t contradict the evidence (that checks out so far). By the end of ch3 we will probably find out that Kris wasn’t the knight all along and will probably get our first clue on who it might be. Then we will probably become more serious about stopping them. And the real knight will either be revealed in chapter 5 (according to chess theory) or maybe later/earlier if chess theory is false.

      @@blackchestnut I also noticed that you really like the idea of Kris knight and don’t like that everyone else thinks it’s boring. Well that’s a matter of opinion, but here is why I personally think it’s boring. When I’m thinking about a non Kris knight, I imagine a mysterious villain, who might be of a high authority (like a mayor), polling the strings to get away with their mysterious plans, or a powerful entity from another world, like a darkner with lightner’s soul or a goner or maybe even a titan. But when I’m thinking about Kris knight, I already know that they are just a human, probably have a boring reason to make fountains (like having fun or getting free from the player), they are also weak, they can barely walk without the soul and are even less threatening when with it. And the whole idea that all of the deltarune is happening just because a kid decided to open up a bunch of dark fountains just feels weak. And if we add Gaster to the equation, it’s still “a kid tried to destroy the world because a ghost from higher reality told them to” or “because they can see the future and are actually saving the world or something” Maybe you can make a video in the future on how Kris knight may work in an interesting way, I just can’t imagine it.
