INDEPENDENCE JULY 2024 Bluefin Tuna Marathon

With a full load of eager offshore anglers, The Independence headed out on our 21st annual fishing extravaganza! We would start West of San Diego CA and arrive at the bluefin tuna zone right before nightfall. Then the action began. Deep dropping 200-300-gram jigs to 300 ft would result in an attacking beast. The FIGHT is ON!
And watch as a COW (200lb +) bluefin hits the deck of the INDY. What a sight! WOW!
It was a virtual all night zombie fishing marathon for those who could last.
Yes..."WE ARE THE WALKING DEAD!" -Sheriff Grimes. HA HA!

Found this big guy in my backyard the other day. Biggest mantis I've ever seen, even though I haven't seen very many. Any amateur or expert entomologists out there that can specifically identify exactly what kind this is? And please spare the GotG jokes. Haha!

It's the fall season and the donkey zebra bass are chewing. Landed this slug fatty that bit a 7" Zoom fluke in a foot of water in some dense eel grass. It was so happy to be released and swam away with a smile.

Had an incredible trip tuna fishing on the Freedom north of the border. Yellowfin up to 50 lbs chewing 80# in the corner. As 2nd skipper Mark was busy dropping them in the hold, Capt Dave was doing his magic on the tank. Absolutely epic bite! Can local fishing get any better?

Incredible Bluefin Tuna fishing on the Sportboat Freedom from 22nd St. Landing in San Pedro CA. We motored into Mexican waters and plunked on these quality Bluefin and Yellowfin all day until we went home. Dan lands one close to 100 pounds on 40 lb test. Great job angler and crew of the Freedom!
