In 1511, the Portuguese took control of Malacca on the coast of peninsular Malaysia, and maintained power here until 1645. During that time, many Portuguese men married Malaysian women, had children, and settled in Malacca. Today, there are descendants of these "mixed" marriages still living in Malacca, and they are known as the Kristang people. They speak Creole Portuguese, are Catholic, and j...

Welcome back, Nick! I always enjoy the videos. I guess some people don't have the patience for your style video lol. You like to do a more laid-back walk and talk, almost like a walking tour. It is very similar to a Gabriel Traveler vlog. Most travel vloggers show the experience's main parts and try to keep the vlogs faster pace and shorter. You have to just do what you like and people will eventually follow you. My dream is to one day do full-time travel.

It's called Portuguese Settlement, not Portuguese colony. The language they speak is Kristang. There is a school in the settlement called Canossa Convent and it has a long history of Portuguese heritage all the way from Macao. The Canossian Sisters from the Canossian Convent have been invovled in the community in Malacca since the late 19th century before establishing the school in 1905.
