Turning My X5 Into a RWD Drift Machine!
There are some things people may not know, and this one I'm not surprised about. We flash our BMW E70 X5 with the glorious M57 diesel engine in today's video. That's right, flashing xDelete is not only for more sport oriented vehicles, it also applies to the larger, family carrier SUV's!!
Not only is xDelete available for your favorite E-Chassis vehicles, it's also available for the F-Chassis and now G-chassis models as well!
This is the second vehicle of mine I've flashed RWD and I can't believe I waited this long.

    Absolutely second guess professional mechanics. As an example, I work in IT and I second guessed 2 mechanics who couldn't solve leaking swivel hubs on a Landcruiser. The second mechanic persisted in rebuilding both hubs after I told him they had already been rebuilt and the only logical problem was the diff housing. He knew best, ignored my observations and took my money which resulted in leaking hubs again. 3rd mechanic, a differential & drivetrain specialist confirmed my diagnosis and problem fixed with a new diff housing. Bunch of arse clowns I tell ya. Thanks for sharing. Cheers from OZ

    Awesome video man. I just hit one year on my 2019 Msport and I love driving this car. I had to read the manual because there is so so much to learn about it. No issues except the Active shutter issue which there is a BMW bulletin about it. BMW extended the warranty on certain models that had active shutter motor issues. Google it and see if that applies to your car.

    So I’m in the the market for either a 2019 540 50k miles or less the bank quoted me $350-400payments, my other option is getting a brand new 2021 fully loaded m440i w/ 15k miles the bank quoted me $830 exact a month my LEGIT question to u is, is it worth it to get a 540 with 40-70k miles or just go brand new and get the m440i still under warranty (I can afford both but if the 540 is worth to get that high of miles then I would rather save $500 and go with it so I’m asking for you personal experience” I have to pick one by next month don’t wanna make a long term regret

    • @tony.nextlevelrides

      I'd personally probably go with the 540 but I may be biased. saving money while having a luxury vehicle that's reliable is a win-win in my books.

      when it over revved and couldn't control the boost to bring it down, it closed the throttle and made sure the engine didn't see the boost. the safeties are nice to have.

    Nice to see you have this win. I have the 2006 E53 and exactly the same symptoms developed after six months. Like you I followed a set path of fault finding, but my issue was not one of always being present. In fact it was so intermittent that after 14 months I was ready to sell it in outright disappointment. As a last resort, I took off the engine cover to try and wiggle the electrical leads to the injectors and see if there was any fault...Nada . . Zip! I then had the bright idea of there being a possible vacuum leak as by now, the behavior was mimicking that of a failed coil pack in an SI engine, however, I removed the injector leads and sprayed each one with contact cleaner, let it dry and clipped them back into place, then without the engine cover I took it for a drive. Bloody marvelous, it was a born again evangelist singing hallelujah! For three weeks I drove around without any problems and then I decided to put the engine cover back on before someone decided to borrow it and all was good...UNTIL, the day I really needed it. I headed down the expressway and a small hiccup, hardly noticeable, or was it? Nah I'm just paranoid, then just before the next exit it simply died at 100km/h and then come back to life again. Now I was concerned, but to late I missed that turn off...bugger. Taking the next one irrespective now and return back to home. Grab the other car and get the bloody task done. Now I did think that it was strange that this happened when I put the engine cover on, but it is only a plastic cover, so I shrugged that idea off. I guess I will have to do that vacuum check after all. New gasket seals were ordered and oven clean as well. Mine does not have swirl flaps so that was good and the EGR delete was done as well. I would like to know more about that pipe you fitted through and how you overcame the warning message? Now here is where we find the kicker, early on I had the Turbo pipe burst and a fine oil mist had sprayed all down the left side of the engine bay. Like you, I tend to sit in there when I am working, my back is rooted after 30yrs of infantry type work in the Australian Army and I was not going to bend in to reach the back, so I decided to wash out the engine bay. The thing was that the car always started first go, idled fine...this leads to something LoL! So with the engine running after de-greasing it, I washed the bay out with a bucket of mild soapy water and a brush. As I was washing over the engine cover from the back to the front and from the left hand side, the engine suddenly cut out as I passed over that BMW badge on the cover. I repeated this movement and the same reaction, curious I then took the brush and just let it rest on the badge in the cover, sure enough it stopped the engine. Starting up again was no problem and again I moved the brush over the cover and again it cut out and then resumed. OK, no brush just my hand and I touched the badge carefully, nothing...I applied the slightest pressure and the engine cut and as I released it start ed running normal again. I got the wife to video this and I sent the copy to my Uncle who works on Euro cars and he was baffled at well, he had never seen anything like this before. By now the engine was quite warm so I applied pressure to the very front of the engine cover and it bent down completely, cutting the engine out totally again. Now I had my answer, I started it up one more time, shut the bonnet and turned on the AC to full, as soon as the AC fan for cooling came on the engine began to falter and then it stopped. It seems the plastic cover was getting soft in the heat and combined with the fan and road speed it was bending down and applying pressure to the wires of the number one injector as well as the fuel rail leads. With the sharp bend in them it was probable that they were broken wires and the pressure was enough to cut one cylinder first then the whole fuel rail. I bought some bolts and made a stand off set for the front, to raise the cover from the harness so I could get it to my Uncles garage, a good four hour drive. He made up a new harness using wire of silver and Stainless steel cores wrapped in heat proof silicone outer. Fitted it throughout the whole injector and fuel wiring system and reinforced the engine cover with alloy right angle sections to stop it bending. It hasn't missed a beat since then, but he did tell me that my glow plugs need to be replaced. Injectors are the easy ones, glow plugs are the mongrels. These are always on, part of the anti pollution, preventing unburnt fuel from escaping. They only torque down at 15lb, but the recommendation is to use a torque wrench to undo them set at 18lb (well some figure like that), so that you do not screw them off and have a big hole where the glow plug used to be. Also, the module that controls it is worth changing at the same time. I am yet to get that done. Sorry about the long winded story, but it is hard to explain an intermittent fault and how it was accidentally discovered without all the detail.

    • @tony.nextlevelrides
      @tony.nextlevelrides 2 дні тому

      man, that was such a weird issue but a great success story none the less!! sometimes the wires get pinched and corrode, it's possible yours just need a good wiggle and cleaning but if it's not missed a beat since, she's fixed if you ask me!!

    I’m getting a car this weekend. It’s so hard to decide between the m340i and 540i. The m340i I’m going to check out has 46k miles and valued at 39k, the 540i has 34k miles and going for 33k. Can anyone help me decide? I’m leaning more towards the m340i because of the additional horsepower but can anyone give me some advice?

    • @tony.nextlevelrides
      @tony.nextlevelrides 3 дні тому

      M340i has the second Gen B58 so that's a big win on its own. the 540i is as light if not lighter and seeming more luxurious. I chose the 540i easily.

    • @terrancepinkney777
      @terrancepinkney777 2 дні тому

      I have a 2019 540i Msport and my co-worker has the 2020 M340i. We compared notes and other than the size of the car there is not much difference. Same engine specs are pretty much the same it basically comes down to two things 1. Space requirements 2. Price. Get the spec sheets for both and see which one has the most bang for your bucks. I have 4 of the 6 packages available for the 540, my co-workers only has two. He has Msport brakes that look cool but performs the same as my regular brakes. So more horsepower for a lot more money? Less horse power (that can be modified easily) and more car? Good luck.

    This is a 8hp45 right and how true is that will hold up to 700wtq Also i’ve hear theres 2 gens gen 1 up to 2016 and latest 2016 and up is gen 2 and lil more stronger is that true? Thanks!

    • @tony.nextlevelrides
      @tony.nextlevelrides 3 дні тому

      they're pretty well the same. the second Gen is an 8hp50. We've had no issues this far *knock on wood*.

    • @daco_e92
      @daco_e92 3 дні тому

      @ but for 8hp50 will need an adapter plate is that correct? Well i’m doing one from 18 x5 into my build motor n54 so far looking for mid 800’s whp But also tq stay same as my manual set up wich is around 680wtq i could’ve gone with 8hp70 but to many things to do 8hp45 will fit right w/o adapting needed

    • @tony.nextlevelrides
      @tony.nextlevelrides 3 дні тому

      @daco_e92 you can always upgrade the clutches / basket on the 8hp45 to hold more power easily, maybe even a converter. for the money you'd be into an adapter plate the 8hp45 would be potentially stronger.

    Great car! Had mine for 3 years. Loved it. The engine, chassis, chef's kiss. Did stage 1 Dynan at local dealer. A bit firm with the M sport package and the wheels are too large. Had to replace 2 wheels due to dent. The biggest problem mine had, and the reason I got rid of it, was the AC. It was leaking, and to fix it the whole dash had to be removed. We are talking $5k+ overall. I heard this is a common issue on pre 2019. Still loved it and would get a 2021 or newer again.

    I actually had a similar issue on my e90 335i. I replaced my dme as well and had to get it coded and after getting it coded and the car wouldn’t start and just crank. I talked with a local shop and he told me to upload my MHD tune that I had on the car before and that fixed my issue and then I had to replace my fuel rail sensor like you guys did. Still have the stupid boost pressure short to ground code though that was there before so I got get that figured out, and I don’t think it’s the sensor cause I replaced that. This car is so annoying to work on but it’s fun to drive though.

    I have 2011 335i and looking at a 2022 540i. I know you went from an e90 to a G30 and was curious how how that transition went.

      was rough at first but was good. takes some getting used to, especially for the "numb" steering but the 540 surprisingly handles better. somehow.

      if you can find a 335d which is like extremely hard in canada. i have one i prefer driving it over my x5d but still awd is nice cuz you can put down the power but 335d in the summer can drift and do burn outs no problem

      @ARoll-uy6ty if I didn't buy my 540 I'd be driving a 335d without a doubt. may be working on something that may be a unique, happy medium. 😉

      it is for maximum traction but having the ability to slide around and save on fuel is also neat. 😊

      @@tony.nextlevelrides you can slide a normal xDrive just fine, hold hte DTC/DSC button for 3-5 seconds, turn the steering wheel all the way and floor it. It'll slide just like RWD pretty much. Then just steer towards where you want to go. Personally i find xDrive a lot more fun than just RWD.
