I am an honest Swarmweaver defender. It might not seem like much on the surface, but it's a nim deathmante/ashnod's altar combo in the command zone, the deathtouch is really nice with Fynn, the Fangbearer as a finisher and since the deck wants you to go wide with mostly tokens, you play insects in a different manner than just self-mill. Sure, there is still a lot of self-mill, but it's not your main thing as opposed to Zask, or the reanimation package that Amzu requires.

I'm interested in building Winter, Cynical Dude, Nico and Rendmaw. Cant decide xD

Zimone is a landfall deck but at the same time its not. Its a mix of landfall but prefers manifest things way more easily.

Lord of Pain would be very fun to play against in a 1v1. First spell you cast every turn domes it's controller 😂 Also, I really want to live the dream of playing Varchild against a Survivor deck. ... Yes, I am evil.

Looking forward to izzet because it's the only guild that I'm having trouble finding a fun commander in. Every deck I've built seemed to be either too strong or too weak. Loving this series! Partners/backgrounds could be interesting as well :)

Wouldnt Sorin be mono-black technically? Since the orzhov is in reminder text only ans that gets ignored for color identity.

my 3rd orzhov commander is Teysa Orlov, and there's a reason she's so popular on EDHREC too, she's extremely good and powerful :).

my friend owns a General Kudro deck, and it slaps face often unfortunately. he's VERY powerful and hard to deal with if you don't have constant removal.

Eriette, the charmed apple is one of my 3 orzhov commanders :) I decided recently to replace my lifegain/cleric themed deck commander, Liesa, with Astarion, because Liesa is just sort of boring (although good), making everyone lose 2 life every time they cast. It's been effective because i gain enough life to be okay through it, while greedy other players must suffer, but Astarion might feel a bit more fair :)

Greasefang is really compelling, but I'm unreasonably turned off by the existence of Parhelion II. It's *such* an auto-include and *so* busted if you're able to cheat it out early. I know you could always just...not run it...and maybe that's what I should do, actually! It's just so obviously a house in this deck, I wish I could ignore it.

Firja is a fun deck building challenge and kind of is a pet deck for me. Built it with a combination of angels, cheap spells, graveyard recursion, and a couple of pieces that help you cheat out cheap cards for free. Been loving tinkering with it. Keep up the fun lists!

I love the idea of the video but unfortunately can't really get through it. I think I understand the vibe you're going for is like those people that rank whatever in rankmaker on twitch with their live chat bouncing off ideas and doing some back and forth, and in that context, going for the whole one-take, live reading totally works. Mistakes happen ofc but you get the live take and some discussion as to why it's that ranked and all that, so the live format just works. But here there's no chat, the fumbling, the fast reading, the editorial mistakes of bits repeating... It all just comes off as ''didn't want to bother editing, this was just for fun'' which, granted, I totally understand. It's just not for me and I thought I might mention it just in case that'd be a marker for improvement if it happens for others too. I sincerely hope you continue producing stuff and can't wait to see how your channel evolves! Cheers!

Interesting that you ranked Colonel Autumn quite highly but Aron quite low, even though they are quite similar. Colonel is more abuseable and maybe thus you saw more potential there. Thanks for the video.

Colonel Autumn is very fun, especially because Orzhov is very good at consistent token generation. Mine's a midrange aristocrats/beatdown deck, hoping to average one legendary drop a turn and exploit every one of them, hitting hard with those while aristocrat drain slowly ensures life advantage. Denethor also has a place in this deck! Not a great/fun commander yeah, but very playable in the 99 for consistency. Same with Edgar, Charmed Groom. Sac him to exploit, then get more explotation fuel. It's great!

Selenia, dark angel is a life swap commander, drop your life to one swap with opponent and win there are various cards that do this. As for Teysa, orzhov scion is a combo deck, play effects that make your creatures black and a sac outlet to go infinite.

I run Orah, Skyclave Hierophant with almost only clerics as my creatures. Divinity of Pride is the only non-cleric in it. It’s a lot of fun to run because of how resilient it is, but can be oppressive if using cards similar to Demon’s Disciple in a low removal pod. I have been considering throwing the old Teysa Karlov into the 99.

Buys boosters based on promoted cards. Pulls the pushed cards. Hype! Half the decks you build have a banned card a month later. TCGs never change.

I do not think that it is excusable that what's apparently _multiple people_ paid as professionals to design cards for the tcg did not at _all_ consider free ability activations to target Nadu. Either it is a lie that multiple people saw the card, or they are so understaffed and overworked that they cannot do their Jobs properly anymore. Sure, this is 'just' one massive mistake. But Chrysalis for draft was another abomination - one of, if not _the_ highest winrate card in limited at common. Truly, it does seem as if balance is entirely slippong from their repertoire.

Maro stated in his blogpost about Nadu that they seperate design teams on a set between ones designing cards for comp and ones for casual. In addition, he stated that printing cards for commander comes with the cards within the set designed for casual play and not to be meta relevant. Personally, I think a lot of the issue is failing to find a design balance in cases like Nadu. The last minute changes were done to make the card more enjoyable than just giving everything flash, blindsighted to the effects it would have on modern. Reinfornced by lack of testing. The key is really to strike a balance with cards like these things kinda like what youre saying. If its gonna be in a non-commander set it should be printed with great care and awareness of that fact.

Post 2020 Magic is garbage. WotC don't care about the game. They just want to make a quick profit for the shareholders and that's all. For all we know, as soon as the game turns non-profitable, they will discontinue it. My only advice would be to stop playing competitively. Your chances of making it to the big scene are abysmal, so instead of spending 1000 dollars on a competitive deck that will be worthless in a couple of years, spend half the money, build 10 different low-power decks and play with your friends as much as you like.

I think the intention of changing the card because it would be problematic in commander is good despite the outcome of nadu obviously being bad. For example they've previously made commander specific cards with mechanics like initiative and they didn't pay enough attention to how these would affect other formats which they also happened to be legal in. I think if a card will see play in a format, then the balance team should make sure it doesn't warp the format whether or not the format is the one the card is specifically based around. (Im just being pedantic tho! I do agree it's an issue that there's a bit too much commander favouritism going on in card design)

Nadu its simply a bad designed card. Wotc dont care about test cards anymore only care about its greed. 😢

The systemic problem at wizards is that they don't have the manpower to test things half as much as they should nowadays because of the sheer volume of cards being printed and the FIRE design. They are clearly understaffed/over-crunched.

I think this is the first time I've fully agreed with someone in a long time, At every instance in your video, the point you were making or issue you were bringing up is exactly what I would have thought or said. Hope to see more videos and see your channel grow.

The easiest ways to guarantee your card has a home are to make it unique and to make it intricate, not to simply make it powerful. "Ramp or draw whenever you do basically anything" is so generic it's basically a non card in terms of deckbuilding.

What's bizarre to me is how Nadu is worded, specifically the line "this ability triggers only twice each turn". Obviously someone involved realized that spamming the ability could be a problem, but the gave it the most half hearted and awkward limitation they could. Like, why not use the far more common once each turn? Or just have Nadu create the trigger so that it was a global limitation? I think the problem was the note about "wanting the card to have a home". I've heard experienced card designers talk about how wanting your cards to be powerful leads to mistakes, and doubly so when you don't have time to test. Overall, I think Nadu was a very avoidable mistake.

Honestly, it's kind of hilarious that the reason for all this was someone being too worried the original Nadu concept was too powerful for Commander just because it granted flash to your permanents, and now the consensus seems to be that Commander players seem to actually like the original card design more than the final.

Cool vid! Couple of notes for anyone watching or BRBMTG At 0:26 he says commander I believe he meant modern and at 0:50 he says modern when I believe he meant commander. Not huge mistakes but the fact that there were two in short succession did confuse me for a sec cuz I was unsure which side was arguing what. Anyhow, glad Nadu finally caught the hammer ;)

After removing the ability, it wasn't clear that the card would have an audience or a home, something that is important for every card we make. This video kinda came across as a Commander Is Ruining MtG thing. It’s frustrating, all the heat EDH gets, and all the more so because Commander wouldn’t be *this* popular if Sealed EV wasn’t so terrible, most pushed = least printed wasn’t a thing, and as consequence, singles weren’t so expensive. Commander’s player-pool is equal parts people who just genuinely love the EDH experience *because* it’s so fundamentally different than 60-card 1v1 formats, and then all the 60-card refugees, who became EDH players as an alternative to quitting MtG, when the expense of new decks just priced them out of meta-based play. (Pauper is wonderful, but it doesn’t suit everyone.) It’s Wizards of the Hasbro greed, all the way down, and I just hate to see EDH continue to catch hell because some enterprising MtG fans like the late Sheldon built something at least somewhat insulated from the rapacious greed slowly strangling MtG to death.

Nadu, created for Modern, has a commander like text block, is hands down an extremely powerful card, should sincerely be banned. Between being exceptionally boring to interact with, to just straight up claiming games due to its color combination and essentially treating any removal used on it like an Assassin's Trophy, while potentially screwing you anyway thanks to Blue's notoriety with counterspells and Simic's number of damage preventive qualities.
