    I just found that your channel existed (blame the almighty algorithm). So far, so good. I’d like to hear a more in depth discussion, and definition, of the differences between edc, concealed carry, and primary carry. Thanks from Corvallis.

    • @Espresso_with_Saul
      @Espresso_with_Saul День тому

      Thank you for joining us, and I appreciate the nice comments. I can certainly do that, but perhaps I can explain what it means to me. To me, my primary carry is a full sized handgun that I would open carry with & train with along side my main battle rifle. Your EDC might be your Concealed carry, or if practicality and environment dictate, it might be you live in Alaska or Texas and your EDC is an open carry side arm you wear "every day". That's how I differentiate between them. I hope that helps!

  • @matthewtilley5500

    I hear you mention “everyday carry” and “concealed carry” as if they are different philosophies. Can you explain why you differentiate between the two?

    • @Espresso_with_Saul
      @Espresso_with_Saul День тому

      I think it is less of a philosophy, and more of individual preference & the practicality of your environment. Your EDC if you live somewhere like Alaska or Texas may be a 357, open carry on your hip. That's not concealed carry. If you live in Seattle or Portland, your concealed carry may be your EDC, since you most likely never open carry in town.

    I would never use a red dot…. However, I do use a green dot!! 😂😂 I had to get glasses and contacts for astigmatism to make the dot less of a blob and more of a dot but it’s still not perfect unless it’s a prism sight on a rifle where the dot is crisp like the 6MOA dot variant of the Swampfox Raider.

      I started off with 1 moa, thinking it would be more precise. I think the one that came with the Alien is 3, but it could be a six. I am now leaning more along the lines of 3MOA, but since I haven't worked with tham all, I couldn't say for sure.

    In my experience, Dots on Rifles absolutely work for me. Just starting to experiment with magnifiers, but even a simple 1x dot really helps me out. Pistols I struggle with RDS. Sure, I can hit things, and make decent groups, but slowly. I should probably put more effort into figuring out what's not working for me there. But! I've tried a couple of different Red dots on various shotguns, and that just doesn't work for me at all! I have a pretty decent picture in my mind's eye what kind of pattern at what range I should be getting, but trying to lay that pattern with the dot just ain't on. And after rattling a couple of fairly expensive dots apart with my slug-gun, I kinda gave up on that too! :)

    • @Espresso_with_Saul
      @Espresso_with_Saul День тому

      Interesting that you like them on your rifles, but not your slug gun, which is essentialy a rifle that can shoot shot. I will say that switching to red dots on your handguns takes practice. It's like picking up something brand new. You do have to re-learn some things.

    • @VwDrake
      @VwDrake День тому

      @@Espresso_with_Saul Just to clarify-- I liked the dot more than the ghost-ring sights I usually use on my slug gun. But after breaking 3 or 4 different dots in various ways, I kinda had to mark it down as a fail. That being said, I don't dismiss them on a pistol, but something I'm doing isn't working. I suspect it's in my presentation/draw. I'll do some draw-drills over the next week or so, and see if I can isolate what slows me down...

    Great information as usual. That was a nice gesture of Paul giving your wife those firearms. I actually took a female friend shooting last year because she had bought her first handgun. She had trouble describing to me what it was, but when I picked her up and saw it, she had a .357 mag Taurus revolver because the pawn shop guy had suggested it to her. I don’t know what that guy was thinking. She was able to shoot it ok with .38’s, but to get her mind at ease with shooting, I let her use my Ruger SR22 and she really enjoyed that.

    I went through the same series of firearms with my wife and two daughters. My wife and youngest daughter settled on the SIG P365 in .380 and oldest daughter settled upon the S&W Sheld EZ in .380 as well. All 3 shoot their firearm extremely well. The process, starting with the wife's firearm selection, went through a Ruger LCR in .38 (too light with too much recoil), Glock 42 ( she turns the G42 into a jamomatic), LCPII (no problems, but she is not very accurate with it) and a Taurus 856 in .38 ( heavier than the LCR, so recoil is more manageable and she does well with it). The 856 was what she liked until the SIG P365 in .380 came along. Great topic and the information you presented will save some the lengthy process of selection.

Ended up being about 3 days before there was massive flooding in NH and VT like 2 years ago. We ended up staying for the whole 3 day trip we had planned but man did we get wet. Ended up spending probably half the time sitting in the car or trying to further water proof our tent. We learned our lesson after that one. Wow. Here I am starting my G82 M4 on E85 from my phone app.... Amazing how far cars and tuning have come from even the GT-R. Nice ride, bro! I had a 2012 Black Edition, but it pretty much stayed stock the whole time that I had it.

      Its always fun. The crew I run with has them from stock to over 2,000 HP. I think I would rather keep the handling than go that high of hp.

    Thanks Saul, I enjoy the Paul stories. One of my first pistols was a 5906 from the early 90's, it became a safe queen.
