The key to beating the 109 is to start the fight at high altitude and try to keep that advantage until you can turn on him. Sorry for the humming noise in the background, i left my mic on for the Nvidia recording. Music by BTD Soundtrack for DCS World

First successful DCS P-51 Mustang night landing
I know I asked 2 years ago but whens the next video im actually interested in flying now
The next video comes out when I retire lol
hello
Thank you!!!
Great video…your voice puts me asleep though haha.
Showing flames on Exhaust ports at 4:52 I wish ED would bring them back again.
The Pony of the skies 😎
That surround sound though 8O
such a bad landing
Wait till you feel as though your bombs are going to go straight...right. :) JK and thanks Luke. In my experience, bombs and rockets take lots and lots of experience to get good at. I found that once I had my favorite angle of dive, airspeed, firing altitude, and then knowing what part of the reticle to use as your aiming point, it got much, much more accurate. That did not come quickly.
I know this is an old video, but thanks for making these all tutorials for the P-51. Takeoff was easy for me with the "Takeoff assistance" option turned on, but since removing this option, I have only been successful about 50-60% of the time. Are you using takeoff assistance? I am having trouble keeping the plane straight once the tail is lifted, I swerve left and right. I have been researching the aerodynamic factors causing roll and yaw on takeoff so I think I understand it, technically. I'm using a twist-stick, maybe I need to invest in rudder pedals. Thanks again.
Intercepting bombers directly from behind is very bad idea, because you are very easy target for fighters and guns from the bomber.
Speak effing up
You should absolutely use up your FUSELAGE tank first. It flies like pregnant cow if you don’t.
Good explained.. Nice
Cool man. How did you managed the Pilot walking around?
Combined Arms for car, and ejected pilot for the walking... it's 2 clips edited together
@@Tango-17 ahh OK thank👍🏼👌🏼😊
In dcs which would be the better air 2 air fighter out of the p51 and p47 and why ?
my mans so under rated amazing editing skills
Hello please make another video my life just isn't quite complete without them
it hurts me physically how he isnt trimming out that annoying pitch up and right roll lmao
im terrible at landing with the p51. im surprised you dont use trim to even the plane out when on final approach. also, in any other videos, the ctrl-enter UI helps people see what your doing with the throttle/controls a lot better and that at least helps me out
Battle was lost at the start when the 109(G6?) gave away his energy advantage and decided to get in a rate fight with the spitfire Mk IX especially at medium altitude.. Big no no..
I really appreciate these videos. hope you see this

The video was helpful indeed! Thank you!
My dad was a P51D Fighter pilot in WW2 fighting against the Japanese. I’m sure he would have known all this. I heard from other pilots the standard procedure on forced landings is to roll the canopy back before the landing so that you don’t get trapped inside with a damaged canopy that might not open on landing
I like trains...
Thing you do in the intro is my dream…..I hope it will happen in the next 20 years
I just started flying on the Storm server about a month ago on the German side and I have been shot down so many times. it's doing my head in!
storm of war is very serious concerning realistic mission, so i make the server for normandy what will be more forgiving for new players and having ai for when sides have low player count
@@chae_shoko After flying the storm server for six months. I very rarely fly the mustang as it's not really suited for GA and for AA it is more suited to the higher levels. So i now fly the p47
how do you get boms and rockets on the p51 .. its not explaned..??
Having the aircraft in trim helps too!
Visually this game has changed so much.
Trying to out-turn a Mustang, faster and a tighter turning radius spells going down in flames. BF-109 were designed to combat inferior fighters like the ones they encountered in the first months of WW 2, and to shoot down heavy bombers, Mustangs were designed to dogfight, The Nazis got a wake up call when they went against Hurricanes and Spitfires at the Battle of Britain. By the time the Mustangs in the 'D' model came into service, these German fighters, and even the FW-190's were against superior fighter planes.
Someone should tell that to DCS. Here, the 109s are modeled as having all of the armor of the late war with none of the weight that turned them into tubs, yet are nearly impossible to stall. And to top it off, they fire howitzer rounds.
This was like watching a wildlife documentary. A lion after a gazelle. You were never going to leave it to run of wounded. You were hungry and the pride wanted fed. I could hear Sir David Attenborough doing the commentary. Superb video. 👍
I’ve never been able to get external tanks to work, I equip them, I switch to them, the engine dies. I’ve seen no fix for that
Make sure there is fuel in them and you’re selecting the right ones. Also be sure your boost pump is on as they aren’t pressurized like the wings are. Your fuel selector should be facing up and left or right for external tanks. Down and left/right is wing tanks and straight down is fuselage tank.
so far the only issue i have in the p51-d is my opponent (ai) usually just starts building up altitude and I can no longer chase. this is even in lag pursuit where i am trying to keep my nose pointed downward. i actually wonder if the AI has more freedom in fights or something.
The ai are on rails and exceed the airframe true preformance
Holy shit the monotone was killing me.............................................................................
And the information givven was much to shallow to call this Advanced Operation. Elaborate on the radiator-switches. Why don't they keep my engine cool in automatic-mode ? How to work the recog-lights ? Is it normal that you constantly overheat the engine when carrying rockets and bombs ? When do I use Carb-heating ? Does it matter if you don't delute your engeine ? Why is there a gun-heater ? So much questions still...
Good video. I know that you must be reading out loud from the manual. That is OK as there is a lot to memorize.
Nice vid. Thanks.
P-51D looks nice but sure does have it's maneuverability flaws. Its very prone to spins and stalls. Even a simple loop you'd really have to keep an eye on your altitude, speed, and stick control. Sometimes recovery isn't as easy as neutralizing the controls. God hope you have enough altitude when you hear that wind whistle and feel that shake at the point right before it goes into that stall or spin. I'd imagine it would fall apart either an ailerons snap, elevators snap, rudder snap, or tail snap off and I'd end up falling like a rock if I were to fly this in my physical prime. A mile and a half in 10 minutes easy, 71 push-ups and 56 sit-ups in one minute easy in my sleep, and pulling more Gs than your mama, j/k, but seriously on any given day in my prime. Not snappy enough, I know it. This is an old man's plane. Might have been the stuff in its hay days. I understand that every aircraft has its envelopes. Even the most advanced in this era has its flaw of engine flameout from lack of idle detent or when in negative G, that would be the Me-262. I could imagine P-51D mustang pilots at the time having this fragile maneuverability limitation on the back of their minds going into a fight against the Bf-109 knowing that it isn't as much of a problem for them. A fighter pilot must be able to fly a plane as it is a part of their body. If it does not allow that or your body can out perform it. Then you shouldn't be flying it into combat. Unless you are a transport pilot, than it is ok. Don't get me wrong. I have much luv' for a mustang and it is an American icon. But a short envelope for stall and spin is a problem in combat especially in a dogfight. Sadly, if you look up its history, many mustang pilots have died due to failed maneuver recovery. Hence look how slow and easy pilots fly a P-51D at airshows.

love the intro
Music is too loud hard to listen to you.
how did you get in that car and do that walkaround in the beginning
That was combined arms and some video editing with a ejected pilot! Just for looks
o dang, i thought i could do a full walkaround before getting in
Thanks for the great video Luke. This was super helpful.
Very interesting video. You showed the trigger in the cockpit for bombs but not for rockets. To shoot a rocket is the space bar on keyboard like for guns? I haven't seen anything in ADJUST CONTROLS a shortcut for bombs or rockets. Thanks in advance for your help.
My plane keeps leaning to my left in take-off. Anyone knows what is happening? :[
That’s actually realistic, it’s called the left turning tendency of an airplane. Long story short because there is only one propeller spinning in one direction there are a bunch of different forces that turn u to the left. Practice using right rudder whenever you takeoff and climb to compensate for this. During cruise it usually isn’t a factor
It's this thing called p-factor. Basically torque from the engine wants to yaw the plane left. Its the same problem with helicopters. And anything that doesnt have counter rotating propellers.
P-factor which creates a yawing motion to the left and torque which creates a rolling motion to the left. Gyroscopic procession also yaws the airplane left when you raise the tail... Mustangs require a 6 degree rudder trim input to the right for takeoff as well as a lot of right rudder in general.

Great P-51 tutorial, Thanks for the help !
