    Hey Brent & Amber! Thanks for bringing back fun memories from our trip to the Burton Cotton Gin Festival back in 2020! Glad to see Burton doing so well. And we agree 100%, it’s important for all of us to visit with our community from time to time. We learn a ton from the folks we meet when we take that opportunity.

    Curious on a couple things… we are going to be new to chickens… I’m still in the process of finishing up our coop/run… Chickens should be here in the next 2 to 3 weeks. I was curious to what you were putting in the coop with the dropper? And then what was the white powder substance you were spreading around in the run? Always looking for new tips and advice . Thanks

    • @blacksheepmeadow
      @blacksheepmeadow 2 місяці тому

      The dropper is lavender oil. I will switch out with peppermint oil at times. This helps with lice and mites. I drop it on the roost bars and around the nest boxes. Bonus the coop smells great 😂. The white powder is DE or diatomaceous earth. I 100% recommend getting some. Look for food grade. DE has so many uses around a homestead. We use it in the coops to prevent mites and other pest we don’t want in our coop/run. It’s safe for all pets and humans. If you haven’t looked into it- it’s worth checking out.

    Thank you! We have a small orchard, nothing major just enough for all our family, out back. The deer and bears give us fits. Should mother nature cooperate and give us peaches this year, we're trying this fence thing. Last summer , they ate everything they could find. We'd check the tree's think a few days we'll harvest and they'd come in a clear every peach overnight. Once they locate fruit / food they don't forget, they hold town hall meetings to tell their neighbors about it. Lol. Great video

    Try Happy Frog! It’s the best organic potting mix! Overall, you will harvest more pounds of produce with this mix. It comes in 2 cf bags, and if you adjust the price per cf it’s pretty cheap. It is a potting mix, not soil, so it does not contain any dirt. For sustenance gardening, I believe it will be the best option.

    Guys. I'm not being mean-spirited or haughty or anything like that, but y'all have some really basic soil concepts wrong that will keep you from being successful for a long time if you don't put in a bit more research. Your test here doesn't take account for soil texture, water retention and and aeration. I really recommend that you visit the Garden Fundamentals channel to get some more simple, sound advice. If you go mixing these soils you tested into your native soil, your results will be radically different from the test you ran. And you only used on bag of soil for the test. Those bags can vary widely. If I were planning to put that much effort into growing your own food, you should probably test more than one bag. I'm just trying to help, guys. I want y'all to be successful. Garden Soil is for amendment -- and even then it's overpriced and unnecessary. Raised bed soil has much more aeration -- and garden soil . . . very literal in comparison. If there's a problem with your soil, amend it with the singular amendment it needs. Don't buy those expensive bags of soil containing stuff you already have. Please visit Garden Fundamentals to learn how soil works. It will really help you guys out, and you'll have so much better harvests with so much less work. You guys seem like really nice people. God bless you both. Sincerely -- a Fellow Texan.
