I love volunteer plants as well...but this year is the best....I haven't tackled food plants yet, but I have volunteer zinnias, marigolds, cosmos, and allysum coming up everywhere! Zone 9A, too!

We went from zone 4b to 5a. I remember back some time when we went from 4a to 4b. It doesn’t matter to me, I still try to go by first and last frost dates and understand the microclimates around our property. I totally agree with your sentiments about the govt!

We are in Va , went from 7a to now 7b. For spring planting, i generally watch for signs in nature and soil temperature to plant because it's Va our weather is anyone's guess. For summer garden which here is tomatoes and peppers, we always plant around Mother's day. We may or may not have a few more frost but we can always cover.
Not sure if y'all watch signs there, but here we know once daffodils bloom, gardening season is on. We also have what we call the four winter's, we have redbud, dogwood ,one other tree, i cant think of lol , and blackberry winter. What weve seen, everytime the above goes to full bloom we have a serious cold snap. We know once we see the blackberries bloom, its the final cold snap.
What is kinda aggravating for us folks in the middle of the country this occurs when our fruit trees are in bloom too. So we race around trying to save our peach , plum and apple bloom. Pears not so much cause they are tougher.
The government can say what they want to, but mother nature always has final say. Lol
    Love yalls video's.

      Thank you so much!
One of our biggest tell, tells in the spring is when the pecan trees start budding we know that the last frost has likely occurred.

I dont believe much of what the government has to say i think your growing zone comes from experience and trying new things. This will alow you to know what to plant and when. Those onions look like shit. I ordered my onion starts from dixon dale farm like i have for several years they will be here monday and if they looked like yours do i will be pissed.

If our next shipment looks the same way I will be emailing them. We have had really good product from them in years past so I am kind of surprised. I’ll do an update when we receive that shipment.
