First Firing Guide - GlassKiln Australia Kilns
Here is a quick first firing guide for your new Glasskiln Australia Kiln. The first firing is an important step in making sure your kiln is ready to go. Doing an empty first firing is highly recommended to prevent contamination of your work while the kiln burns off the organic compounds used for construction.

Two videos in a week? Fortunately they are both short ones. In this video I make some .999 Silver Frit which we should have up on the website before the weekend if you are interested in some. We are also making some 10% copper 90% silver frit which will still look like silver, but also react with reactive glass.

Bartlett 3 key Controller kit assembly

This video is a guide to help you, or your electrician, build your Bartlett controller kit. An inspection by a licensed electrician is required before you connect this controller to the mains, but since you will already have one onsite installing your power point, it will be an inexpensive addition that could save your life.

The second in our video project series, this is a two part project. Unfortunately cutting the footage down to 15 minutes has left out the firing schedules... so here they are (keeping in mind differences in all kilns): Tack fuse: 139 to 566, hold 15. 139 to 677, hold 10. 167 to 718, hold 5. AFAP to 510, hold 90 (longer than usual, but recommended). 110 to 427, hold 10. 180 to 50, hold 0. Flow f...

    Great video , Can you please advise if you carry these relays in stock ? I have an Olympic Gf2eTLc 20 x 20 in kiln that has a Bartlett RTCc1000 digital controller that is showing an E-d error ! The manual is telling me it is possibly a relay issue . Sorry to contact you this way . Happy to email if you can send Many thanks Dianne

    Only one problem: 20cm x 20cm is 400cm, not 40!! So at 2g frit per square centimetre that'd be 800g frit, not 80.

  • @glassfusing5708
    @glassfusing5708 2 роки тому

    Hi Dave - responding to your email too - but just in case someone else has the same problem.. not really without a relay tester that can measure current (which costs a lot more than relays). The best thing to do though would be to measure the resistance of your elements if you have a multimeter and feel comfortable doing it. For a 240v kiln you should have 22-23 ohms of resistance for a 10 amp element group, or 11ish ohms for a 20amp - for 110v kilns 11 ohms will give you 10amp, and 5.5 ohms will be for 20amp... anything away from these numbers suggests you need elements rather than relays. It could also be your safety switch if you kiln has one of these. If you aren't sure - relays are cheap and easy to swap.

    Thank you for the video! I have the same model Cress. I suspect the relays need replacing. When I do a test run…ramp at 9999° up to 1000°…the kiln only heats up about 10°-15° per minute. Is there a way to test the relays? They’re not too expensive so I’m thinking I’ll just replace them anyways. Thanks for any info.

    Do you find you need to sand/blast/do anything to the cuts before you fire? I read somewhere that you get a haze if you don't, but I don't see any other artists doing that. Enjoyed the videos, thanks!

    I'll throw that control box in the garbage where it belongs, I would never ever press that many times to program it. A simple phone app connected via Bluetooth or USB connect to laptop or desktop is much more time saving. Would rather spend extra money for such simple microcontroller like Arduino which costs few dollars.

    Jeeze this is really a hectic work, a lot of sanding, chiseling and massive repetition of measurements. This is the best DIY video for building a kiln, thanks for the effort of getting good shots of the build process. Is there any alternative to calcium silicate board? Can you add ceramic fiber wool instead of calcium silicate board, will the efficiency still be the same?

    • @edcantarella9931
      @edcantarella9931 2 роки тому

      I don't think it was a very efficient build. He compensated for a sloppy inner build by going over it with the board. just one internet idiot's opinion.

    Can you make a video on how to build a natural gas forced air glass kiln? Is it too hard? Also can this design structure and materials also be used for a natural gas modification? The reason I ask is because I would like to build a glass kiln mainly for annealing glass, would like to make nixie tubes.
