    If you were going to 2nd crack would you just continue to lower the fan? Is it OK to make adjustments during 1st crack or is it better to let it finish first?

    • @CoffeeBeanCorralOfficial
      @CoffeeBeanCorralOfficial Місяць тому

      It's fine to make adjustments during 1st or 2nd crack, but if I adjust during 2nd crack I'll typically reduce the heat or increase the fan, so as not to fly too quickly through 2nd crack and wind up darker than intended. If you want to go into 2C, just increase the heat earlier in the roast to accelerate through the middle stages of the roast.

    Follow up question on blends: If I were experimenting with blends I would roast each coffee separately then blend one cup at a time. That way I can adjust the ratio without waiting to finish the entire batch. Do the beans roast differently together or is the result basically the same? Do they interact in the roaster?

    So delicious and fun to roast coffees from around the world. A couple of weeks with a roast then on to another flavor. 95% are good to delicious. A couple have been awful 😣. I roast simple and hokey. Coleman stove, plus a heat gun in a cast iron Dutch oven. Oh and stir with a pain-stick. 12-18 minutes, cause if I do it faster I sometimes burn 🔥 the beans. I really enjoy my coffee from CBC. Even if I take toooooo long to roast the beans 🫘. 👍🏼

    • @CoffeeBeanCorralOfficial
      @CoffeeBeanCorralOfficial 2 місяці тому

      @@conradcrisafulli8269 I would start with a slightly lower heat setting for one, but the important difference between decaf and regular is not to let your eyes deceive you. Decaf is already darker, so going by color will have you cooling the coffee too soon. The 1st crack is typically harder to hear, so I'd do what I can to really pay attention so you can note the beginning and end of 1st crack. From there, carry it into the first few snaps of 2C if you want to go dark, but that can get away from you and result in burnt coffee, so I'd start off shooting for a medium roast, dropping between 1st and 2nd crack and adjust from there!

    if you haven't invested yet in an extension tube, would you recommend that the fan and heat settings stay the same? I'm currently using an SR540 and have tried a lot of different profiles. Most of my roasts turn out pretty good. The only thing that I notice is that when ground, I don't get that great coffee aroma that I seem to get when I buy already roasted beans from any of our local small batch roasters.

    • @CoffeeBeanCorralOfficial
      @CoffeeBeanCorralOfficial 3 місяці тому

      Great questions! We have a different profile for the Fresh Roast with and without the Ex Tube, which you can find by looking at the "Roast-a-Long" section of our UA-cam page. You'll see a video for "with Extension Tube" and "without Extension tube" -- I recommend checking both out to compare and contrast. As for the aroma, I wonder how long you're allowing your coffee to "rest" or degas after roasting and before grinding? At least 3 days resting is recommended for most coffees, and some lighter roasted coffees don't come into their full flavor and aroma until a few weeks after the roast!
