Betul. Betul!
Good point, I picked up key values discipline and thanking ppl💪
Thanks for sharing such great and motivational insights. Very encouraging.
change curriculum then, meritocracy 1st laa and give laaa fare place in matriculation and university for Malaysian.talk talk for who.
Thank you Datuk Tan Sri 🙏🏻
Nothing change, if we dont change the education minister
I was told Indonesia started teaching codeing and AI in primary school. Because their education minister is the founder of Gojek. Grab equivalent in Indonesia. Plus those head master with good records should promoted to be vice chancellor of the teachers university or colleges. Getting parents to get involved with kids coursework. Means they dontch understand the teachers. It's teaching failure. In the West, it's teachers job to teach.
😂😂😂 The elephant in the room... Racism is the greatest disease . It breeds ignorance and greed. When meritocracy does not exist... education breed only mediocrity.
Sewaktu zaman jahiliah saya melihat suami monyet sedang merejam isteri monyet, kerana ia melakukan persetubuhan haram. Saya juga, ikut merejam isteri monyet. Sahih al-Bukhari 3849
less than 20% of teachers can teach very well..if u depend on d school. u r toast. don't even talk about co-curricular..teachers burdened with admin not willing to spend time on weekends/school hol for koko...uniform units are just for show if depend on teachers...the commitment pale comparison to those years before 1990..
bring back UPSR & PT3 la, appoint merit based teachers la..also those people in d pejabt pendidikan are quite useless..just good at making more and more rules and procedures to protect themselves and admin instead of allowing students to learn on and off class properly
Wow. Very informative
Our current system failed to encourage the top / good one to teach.
Our government has made primary and secondary schools almost free for everyone, but the quality of infrastructure and teachers of public schools has declined to a very worrying level. Parents who couldn't afford quality education for their children will risk their future generations being left further behind skill and financial wise. In the end, only the rich and privileged ones will get to access high quality education, widening the wealth disparity and causing more crimes and social issues in our society.
This is a better discussion on Malaysian Education than the other nonsensical videos regugutating cliches without proof that Msia govt schools bad lah S K and SMK bad lah. Idris and Leon do not do that. They discuss what was working well in govt schools and why. They did not condenmed. Of course Idris had examined the reports and seen the results. Whilst those complaints rely on BIASED. I've saying for years Msian Govt Education is FREE and It is NOT BAD. Religion in Govt Schools DO NOT make govt schools bad. If It does mission schools in the 50s to 70s have steroidal amount of religion but I see everyone praise them . Good schools teach pupils to lead good lives and a E pupil applying good civics and knowledge gained in schools in adult life is better than an A student who only knows how to score As.
PMX should appoint Dato Sri as the education minister with immediate effect. If not Sarawak state pls make good use of Dato sri talent
Whatever good ideas we have, the corridors of power must have the will to make the change. Unfortunately education in Mysia is used as a political tool for obvious reasons. Sad. Just follow the education structure in the 70s with modifications to match the changing times. Instil meritocracy. Do you think this will be done?
As an educationist for the last 35 years, across Asia and UK. I personally agree that nothing is wrong with the curriculum but with the changing paradigm of learners and societies across Asia. The problem being challenged by malaysia today is across multiple countries. We need a pedagogical change in delivery methods and in evaluations. I disagree with ranking but propose a well distribution of talented educators across schools.
Compared with other ministeries KPM is more vulnerable to changes in particular on curriculum. It greatly affect the public. Once it is changed it will take a few more years a new change to take effect. The blame cannot be put on the new govt but to the education dept that made the changes.
Good stuffs.
Humble leader full of knowledge and wisdom
No 1, the govt must acknowledge Malaysia education is not up to par ranking 34 out of 80 nations in PISA test. Singapore is no 1. No 2 the teachers are substandard. No 3 the syllabus need revamp. No 4 politicians shld settle the issue of language teaching medium
Enlightening podcast an admirer of DSIJ since the turnaround of our national airline MAS. You guys nailed it actually... ✊
Very good discussion. So insightful
Yes I do remember all my good teachers and the bad one too. One of their characters that still stays with me until today is that "they showed genuine love and care about me and my education." On my part I wanted to please them with my performance. God bless them.
Good Aftn DS Idris & Leon. It cannot be denied that Education & the Acquiring of Knowledge & Skills is A Life-Long Learning Process. Reminiscing back to our earlier education system its was merely "Rote-Learning" & studying to pass exams with flying colours. As for the progression towards education has taken a profound change meaning we need to have a Structured Pedagogy System whereby the Curriculum & Syllabus need to be followed closely to produce students & Graduates with a "Thinking Mindset". In this Era of Artificial Intelligence [ AI]I & Digital Transformation, we need to equip students with a" Critical Thinking" mindset. No more just to regugitate for the sake of passing exams. SThere is now the School-Based Assesment [ SBA] which provides an equally good opportunity which is holistic & integrated approach to evaluate students development as compared to traditional examination- based methods. Ample opportunities must be created to allow students to be given for self-assesment & evaluate their progress. Education demands lots of investment in terms of time management & financial resources. Thats why the future holds ample opportunties with a sound Education System. I fully agree the 7-Step Approach towards Quality Education should be implemented. Tq
ANYONE who says the Malaysian National Curriculum has no issues with it - benefits of it.
We have dinosaurs like Idris Jala wanting to go back to the rote learning system to produce factory workers. It was good for the Mahathir years producing industrial workers....cheap labour. Just take a look at our exam papers. They are not much difference betweenbus and Singapore. The questions are PISA like questions....very wordy in real life application to test language comprehension and maths (for example). Our poor performance is not due to the syllabus but more about the non competitiveness culture among the parents. You can't compare the kiasuness of chinese dragon parents all over the world against others. Even in America or Europe, the chinese students will excel above others. Its a cultural thing. So stop being education experts when you are not and leave things to the experts of their field. There are those that harken back to the colonial systembof rote learning. No, it was not a good system. We just produce people who excel at exams and can't generate new knowledge. We only produce people that are good at acquiring knowledge. We produce people to go out and become salaried workers. Its all about getting jobs. Things have changed. Therebis guarantee of a job waiting for you even if you are the best. You have to create that job. You have no more guarantee of a secure lifelong job. You will be retrenched, you will be displaced by machines and AI. You have to change jobs across your life span. Change discipline, learn new stuff always.
Just focus on teaching the language, writing, and maths. And in doing so teach the child how to organize and study.
The real issues : 1.Politician control our education as their needs 2.Politician got their money from endorsement by Businesses 3.Businesses wanted low salary for employees And you wonders why our education still capped at this level ?
One of the reasons is you trained teachers for one subject, you expect them to teach another subject and expect them to excel in all. Some teachers can handle it well, not all. Curriculums should also be relevant to the present era.
This former minister is only make money for family..u want success aft3r middle school stop study and work get money migrates until u 40..comeback and retired.malaysai sisyem make people stupid..all job go to female
Both gentlemen speak very good command of English and i dont See there is such standard anymore .. our education system was still the best ..in the 70s.. the best ..💪💪💪🤣🤣🤣
I couldn't stop nodding my head throughout the entire podcast, indicating I couldn't have agreed more to all the points discussed here. Idris Jala is so well versed with the subject of education and could recall all studies on the ground occurred across the country. I really hope all schools in Malaysia can actually listen to what Idris Jala has to say about our quality of education. To sum up some of the key essentials out of this enlightening discussion would be: The criteria of good school are not really about the current curriculum, facilities, or even the extracurricular activities, but rather on the role of school's principal/educational leadership, parent involvement, teachers' quality which should mainly focuses on their specialization, and structured pedagogy/teaching method. I look forward to watch more from TGOI.
Mostly..those selected to head certain Ministries are more politically linked rather than qualifications. Been like that for decades and that is why education is sliding in reverse gear. Agree with your insights and proposals .. methodology in teaching as well as exposure to issues in the real world. Used to run tuition classes in teaching English to Primary and Secondary students until I retired during the MCO lockdown. Thank you for your constructive inputs.👍👍🤗
What about the international school curriculum? Are they under the supervises of Msian Education on civic subject
You talk about Tepu' Henry Jala. I remember he was my teacher in primary 2 & 3 at SMK Bario in 1970-71. He used to bring us to the school library to borrow books to read during weekends. At home then, the dictionary is my buddy while reading books. My Uncle, Philip Lakai, was the Head Master that time. Doo ketuh tah susud meduah leh.
I am also v familiar with their syllablus which is quite different from ours. Some of our teachers took teaching as the last career option.
I agree with you the quality of teachers is v important. Pedagogy is also v important.
our main problem is that mediocrity seems to be running within the teaching profession
I am a retired pricipal who taught for 35yrs. Besides, staying in JB, I used to tutor students who studied in Spore. Now, I'm tutoring my students' children
im an ex teacher and i so agree with mr. Idris. i've been telling everyone the same thing too
this is such a timely and relevant discussion
Much needed conversation. Private sector involvement must begin from preschool. Education must continuously evolve. Govt must set up a think tank to look at our education system.
