Unfortunately ill have to get a hose pump to drain mine. The only floor drain i have has never worked well. It has enough capacity to deal with a humidifier all summer but even sometimes i have to go down with a plunger. I should probably call a professional eventually but our regular drains work fine so its never felt worthwhile.

Is there an option for replacing this style anode rod when you don’t have enough clearance above the water heater? I know regular anode rods have options but how about this style that is shared with the water outlet?

I’m get prepared to clean my RU199 for the first time. I’ve watched a half dozen or so vids on the procedure. I even watched the one from Rinnai. You are the only one that had a section on the air intake filter or information on what that flame should look like. I feel much more confident about cleaning after watching your vid. Appreciate it.

Found this video while searching reasons that Bradford Whitewater heaters are better. I know very a lot, but I’ve never thought about starting to drain the water heater with the pressure running. I also start the water When it’s empty to do cleaning, but I didn’t know Bradford White actually had a mechanism to assist with that. That was an old idea I had in my head. Never learned it anywhere. Pretty cool that they have an assisted mechanism for that!

Plumbing in series does NOT cut the life of the water heaters in half. Sure, you should change the anode rode on heater #1 more often but otherwise the setup works great. If this were true...how do so many people get away with ONE water heater? The only concern with a series setup (and reason some codes don't allow plumbing them in series) is legionella bacteria, which can grow if #1 is not kept hot enough. The solution is to simply keep #1 at 140F. Also, these aren't plumbed correctly for proper parallel balancing because of the 90s on the left.

Can you reuse the 2 gallons of vinegar, after you have flushed the domestic hot water side? Then can you flush the infloor heat side? Or do I need 4 gallons of vinegar total?

What happens if you don't have 3 feet above the hot water heater to pull one of these out? Do you have to completely drain and disconnect the heater so you can tip it over?

Great video. So I'm doing the maintenance and hooked the hoses up and opened the drain valves and not even a glass of water came out. This is a NCB 240/130 combi. Installed 09=2024. I'm baffled but am going to try and proceed.

Hello this is Michael from Staunton VA and I was wondering if you can help me. I have a Navien combo boiler and I was wondering if I need to de-scale two different areas of this heater? I am just learning about this heater. I have found out that I do need to flush and descale the domestic area but I don't know about the space heat? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your clear and helpful videos!! Mike

Thanks for taking the time to teach how to take care of it. The home builder where I live didn't explain that when we purchased our home. I had to replace it after just 1 year of use because it broke down during a winter storm. The builder installed it outside. Many neighbors water heaters broke. The plumbing company I bought it from didnt explain any of these needed maintenance. I wish your company was located where I live.

What is the reason behind needing a third hose to flush out the vinegar,? You already have the outlet hose attached that was used to circulate vinegar to the bucket. Why not just use that and draining into a sink, basin or toilet nearby, maybe the bucket after dumping the dirty solution?

Great video, seems easy enough to follow. My first Navien system had to be replaced because no one told me I needed to flush it when I bought that house. My next house had a Navien system as well that the previous owners had to replace because THEY never knew to flush. I had local plumber out to flush the system once and think now i can do it myself. Thanks again for this great video

At 2:56 you are kinda right but the hydrojet keeps the tank cleaner durning everyday use, it is not keeping the tank cleaner because you drained the tank and turned the water on.

Nice. For my RUR98i Rinnai recommends a 4GPM pump and about 4 Gal of vinegar. I think there's a lot of play with the numbers because the system is designed for about 19GPM of hot water flow. Main thing is to read the manual and not worry too much. But do this for at least an hour every six months if you have hard water. Can use diluted Muriatic acid instead of vinegar

Hey Ray - Great video. thank you. you seem to be an expert on the Rennai heaters. I have the same one in your video (i120) but the household water is locked at 120 degrees. Do you happen to know what the unlock code/process is to increase the celing temp above 120 degrees? Thanks in advance Ray!!

Excellent video. I have put off the descaling process too long on my Navien Tankless Water Heater due to being unsure with the process. But I did the cleaning process one step at a time and I'm giving a comment right now as I wait my 45 minutes for the vinegar to flush through. Thanks for the awesome video. 👴

I called Navien and explained that I have a NCB-240 and asked about my warranty and suggested service. They advised that both the closed loop heating side as well as domestic hot water side should be cleaned every 1 to 2 years with a biodegradable, potable safe product such as floaide, fernox, hercules: haymaker. White distilled vinegar can be used as a backup but typically does not have the high acidic levels needed for a thorough cleaning. I also asked if flushing the system with said products would void the warranty and was advised it will not and was in fact recommended by the manufacturer to keep both the closed loop side and domestic side of the heat exchanger clear and operating correctly.

I've watched over 15 videos on how to flush my Navien Combi tankless water heater. This video is by far the best in detailing exactly how to do it with very helpful detailed videography and a clear, articulate and specific explanation of the process and it's only an 11 minute video. Ordered my flushing kit from Amazon for $75. Took my IPAD to my mechanical room to have the video on in case of questions, and completed the flush of my Navien with no issues. EZ PZ. Ray is a rock star.

If i may ask a question so is the aluminum being in theory melted and set into the water that goes out into my shower for example? These reason i ask is that will that is not the ideal metal to be in contact with the skin special with a hot shower were you skin absorption doubles.
