I critique games, anime and film...very thoroughly
A Thorough Critique of Dark Souls
Dark Souls is one of the most influential games of the 2010s. In this critique, I aim to thoroughly break down the game in intense detail. This video is part 1 of a multi-part series. I will break down every Souls game from Dark Souls onwards with a few exceptions until Elden Ring is fully covered.
Bloodborne is up next...

A Thorough Praise of Re:Zero S02 E08
Переглядів 1,2 тис.9 місяців тому
Apologies for the extensive copyright coverage on this video. Getting this UA-cam ready was a mission. Re:Zero is a fantastic anime and Natsuki Subaru is VERY well written as a character. This video breaks down and critiques the anime: Rezero, specifically season 2 episode 8, because i believe it is worth ALL the praise. Patreon: www.patreon.com/Lycan072 #rezero #anime #Subaru

Yes despite my critiques, I do enjoy playing Diablo 4. It's a whole ton of fun but it does have its flaws. I really hope that Diablo 4 continues to improve over the next few seasons. Patreon: www.patreon.com/Lycan072 #diablo4 #D4 #diablo
A Thorough Critique of Resident Evil 4 Remake

The Resident Evil 4 remake is a fantastic game with flaws. This critique attempts to break down the game and discuss its strengths and weaknesses. The original is a masterpiece, but can lightning really be bottled twice? Patreon: www.patreon.com/Lycan072 #re4 #residentevil #re4remake

Trying to Fix Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness (See Pinned Comment)

SEE PINNED COMMENT Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness is a horrible film. I try, in this video, to rewrite and fix many problems within the film. Doctor Strange 1 used to be amazing but now Marvel is producing lazy excuses for movies. Patreon: www.patreon.com/Lycan072 #Marvel #drstrange #writing
36:28 To be fair, there is one signal that the bridge isn’t safe, it’s burned and there are many corpses, and the number of burnt corpses varies on how many players have died online to the drake flames
I can't wait for you to see what goes down in Arc 6 when it's animated.
It's a nicely toned, smartly subversive, and fresh game series. One of the only video game franchises that hasn't curdled into a burdensome series of ones, zeros and dollar signs.
Fantastic video! Always love a solid 3+ hour Dark Souls video. Super excited to see the rest of the game critiques. +1 Sub.
I dropped ds1 after getting to the bottom of the catacombs and seeing the golden fog wall. Couldn't make it back up 😂 had to drop the game
The quality of this video is amazing - the amount of effort you put into the video production, and even just how eloquently you speak, made me SO surprised to check your channel and see just 1.5k subs. You just gained another, I’m really excited to see what you put out next!
This is some ass bro
This guy's voice for the entire review reminds me of Malfoy in mid insult of Harry Potter.
Bloom? you mean bullet spread, bloom is a visual postprocessing effect
Good video, but I think your point about the game "not providing exact numbers" is not convincing, and is weakened by the fact that you seem aware of which is that dark souls is not really a proper action game, and the combat in it is not demanding at all, nor is it its own reward, but rather it is one way of pulling the player into the world. Which is why I think that the game can get away with being obtuse on such technicalities. Not because players should google them, no, I think the players are better off actually testing gear, experiementing, and gradually building up an understanding and knowledge of the game. In the examples you mentioned... I wonder, if Artorias's ring showed how much poise it added, then the game would also have to explain to the player how much poise enemies have/deal. I can't speak for everyone, but I can say for myself that knowing the most powerful item combinations and builds off the top of your head means that you have reached a point of not having much reason to play the game anymore. sorry if my comment is a bit long, great video otherwise but I felt like nitpicking a little :P
That why i just stopped locking on huge enemies or ganks I usually just avoid it altogether except during 1v1ing humanoid enemies
Soon as you said all the souls games were getting the same treatment i subbed. Idk why but i love hearing other peoples perspectives on these games
So, you're just gonna skip Dark Souls 2? Typical? Unfortunate.
You've now made 1,000 subs off of a single video! Here's hoping you can get used to that feeling! Lycan pack unite!
It's so crazy. Hoping to get the next video out by the end of the year
@@Lycan072 If America still exists by then, I'll be sure to see it!
@joshuachitwood7586 goodluck with all that. Hopefully the 2nd civil war doesn't start lol
@@Lycan072 Dude. Too soon. It's only been 159 years. You gotta pay reparations for that, pardner.
Very good narration and super concise and enjoyable videography. Well done!
He sounds like an angry professor
"omnidirectional movement" then proceeds to lock the camera and show how this game is not entirely omnidirectional
Leaving Demon's Souls out? Is that what he said? If so, trash.
I freaking love that people still upload videos if this game! DS1 is never going to die 😂
my favorite boss fight in the series is the Twin Demons from the Ringed City DLC in Ds3. they work so well together.
If you think Persona 5 is bad about flashbacks and overexplaining, you should see Danganronpa because ohhh boy does that one have it beat. I love Danganronpa but my god does it usually think we're idiots 😅. To be fair, I've seen lets players still get confused even with the overexplaining, but I think that's partially because the overexplaining makes it more confusing at times. Sometimes its definitely just video gamers missing the obvious, though.
The best argument I've heard for flashbacks is that players may take a long time irl to beat the game so reminders are a good thing. Even with that, the Makoto "useless" flashback happens about 2 minutes after the scene happens 💀
19:38 i instinctively screamed “MIIIIKE” right here
I realised how awful the movement in remake was after I played it on my friends pc. Maybe I'm just used to the original controls
You are not qualified to “critique” anything.
Womp womp
I feel like a lot of the love for this game, the others to a certain extent too but it’s mostly this one, is based on nostalgia. I liked the game but people calling it the best of all time are crazy.
unfortunately i've yet to find a dark souls 1 critique that genuinely criticizes the game properly, too much nostalgia blindness and insane bias. the opposite for dark souls 2, although there are a few critiques that give the game the proper recognition and love it deserves.
That was one of the best intros I've ever seen or heard..
I found so many of these truths back when I played when there wasn't everyone online chatting it up. Thanks.
I see.. you're not one for progress ...you're an excuse and a joke.
2:45:18 Hitting puberty. This guy is so nitpicky about DS1, even as to complain about having to exhaust NPC's dialogue to uncover certain progression.
Disagree that the initial part of Anor Londo is one of the worst of the game, I spent quite a few mins/hrs trying to figure the entrance to the palace, but it still left me with a sense of awe on how unconventionally cool that twist was, as far as exploration goes. Fuck intuition, in this case.
I did the instakill on ceaseless discharge on my first (blind) playthrough on accident :D I simply panicked when I picked up the armor set and this giant monster showed up, forgetting you cannot traverse backwards through fog doors. I left with the impression that this was just a kind of jumpscare-gimmick-fight and intended this way. Only later a friend told me that you can actually fight this boss normally
Congrats on the 150,000 views and 880 new subs!
the B-roll fits really well to the commentary.
I summoned NPCs against O&S on my first playthru and they pancaked them in seconds... I had never summoned before and I have never summoned since.
instant sub because there was no preamle
It's funny how DS1 critique videos always have the least amount of likes. However, DS2 critique videos always have the most likes. The Soulsborne community is filled with biased players who prefer one game over another. So I appreciate your effort in letting people know about the bad and annoying aspects of DS1 that most people don't pay attention to, especially in those essay videos that label DS1 as a "masterpiece".
That's the weird part - I adore DS1. It's my favourite game of all time. But to ignore the flaws is detrimental to all discussion. Some people just have a hard time detaching how much they enjoy a piece of media on a personal level from it's how good it is on a qualitative level. This is why I barely talk about my personal experiences or biases and always attempt back up my claims with references from the game itself. There are enough video essayists on this platform that only share their personal feelings. There are substantially less of us who are attempting to get to root of how good a game/show/movie actually is.
Great critique! I disagree with you on a lot of things but can see where you're coming from. I personally wouldve loved even less handholding than the game already gives you
so you skipping dark souls 2?
what's unfortunate with demon ruins is that it would've been fine had they just removed all but 1 or 2 of the capra demons and all but the taurus demon guarding the firesage door this is the origin of the demons afterall, it'd make sense for them to be here, but for them to be standing around like a bunch of "hop on tf2" gifs in a hallway does not
i honestly wish the channeler was unreachable before beating the gaping dragon, the fight is justway too easy otherwise, honestly being easier than asylum demon
i will never understand why someone would wanna play dark souls for the first time again it's fucking hell for new players, with either zero or directly harmful information on what to do most of the time, like the hint that the bell is far far below, like for example, oh idk, TOMB OF THE GIANTS?? it's absolutely ridiculous that this line made it into the game cause it does such a piss poor job of directing you that the game would've been better off without it the start of anor londo is like this too, not at all introducing the concept of climbing the environment well, considering a staircase with a single step missing would mean it's impossible to go that way, early on you're taught you can't go outside the play area, so expecting people to do exactly that to the extreme is beyond stupid still an 8/10 game tho don't get me wrong, it's the second and third game where these problems become truly inexcusable
warp was a mistake honestly, it forever ruined world design for the rest of the games, dark souls 3 suffering the most from it with firelink shrine breaking any and all immersion with a rule obliterating """"bonfire"""" warp at the start
16:26 it's significantly faster and less risky to simply dodge roll through those projectiles
2:07:40 that bonfire can be warped from though, I accidentally discovered this, and thought I was crazy cause I didn't manage to trigger it again. I was farming the enemies on the prision and was resting on the bonfire from outside the cell, and one of the time I sat there I accidentally clicked on the warp menu and it was allowing me to warp, I was confused and kept farming but when I sat on the bonfire to lvl up, inside the cell so the snakes wouldn't attack me, i couldn't warp anymore. I thought it was a one time bug, and looked it up and ends up that you can warp from the outside of the cell
I love that you're basically critiquing 99% of the same things I have ALWAYS critiqued about DS1 and people gave me shit about it. I feel that even though DS2 also have several problems, it gave me much less stress due to it's problems compared to DS1, and it was my first game, and I played the DS2SoTFS PS3 version, so vanilla game + DLC and the enemies aggro so much more in vanilla DS2 while the PC SoTFS was stupiditly easier compared. And I was shocked to play OG Demon's (after Remake) and see that for me it felt WAY BETTER than DS1, it felt more fluid also, DS1 feels so clunky and slow, the animations are weird even rolling feels off in DS1 (2 also, and worse but after leveling adp it felt just as weird as DS1). I don't get how FS was so on point with several things in Demon's, and changed so much after it.
