Riding the CB900 on Mandarin road I was pleased to see walkers and joggers and bicycle riders exercising during this Corona Virus Stay-at-home. Obviously these people chose to get out after all this time. There are more people being active than I have ever seen before on this lovely road.

Todd Lovelace's team completed building their entry to the Riverside Arts Festival at 3:00 am that morning, then had to take it apart, transport it to the festival and reassemble it, some parts for the first time. This was also the first time they actually fired anything from it. The chief was making sure all boating was cleared from the area. About six successful firings were made in total. My...

Captain Shirish invites me to crew with him and his two sons to sail from Port Mahon, Menorca to Italy. The video shows our departure from Mahon and some of our conditions as far as Vulcano Island. But my camera battery and all my two spares expired and that's all the video I took. It was a great trip, but as you see we did a lot more motoring than sailing. Ah, well, that's the Mediterranean fo...

    Nice video, brings back fond memories from long ago. I paddled the Suwannee from Fargo GA where it emerges from the swamp all the way to the gulf in a wood/canvas Old Town canoe way back in 1954. I was 10. What an adventure for a kid.

    If ocean currents and/or waves push against a sailboat's bow under power, it will burn alot of fuel. If the front wind blows at your bow under sailing, you have to do beating against wind. These sea and wind conditions will delay your ETA to landfall. Just make sure that you will have enough fuel, food and water so plenty for extra days.

    you are wrong. there is nothing greater than waking up on your boat at the marina. It refreshes your life every day. The marina can be in the center of the city, but you are in a world of your own. I've owned power and sailboats since the age of 8 and I can tell you the pleasure of using it at the dock is great. Sailing in them is most rewarding.

  • @PetesNikon
    @PetesNikon 12 років тому

    I suggest there are several reasons why there are plenty of sailboats at dock and not on the water; firstly it generally takes more than one person to sail, so you have to organize friends as crew, secondly the desire to own a boat is much stronger than owning a boat, so once you have one, it's job done, now what? Thirdly once an owner you begin to see how many things need attention and repairs and many are not prepared to spend so much time just fixing and spending money to do those fixes

    Its kinda weird because i had a powerboat in a slip at local dock and i would go out often..there were many sailboats big and small in slips just rotting away...it made me think sailing was to much of a hassle and thats why they never took there boats out...

  • @FromTheHood2TheWoods
    @FromTheHood2TheWoods 12 років тому

    Yes..yes indeed..i fully understand what you mean..its the sailing that i will enjoy the most..over the destination..i know it is a challenge and great adventure and i will be sure to have alot if training and practice on the river before i head out..also ill have someone with alot of experiance come with me on the trip..thanks

  • @PetesNikon
    @PetesNikon 12 років тому

    having all the right devices to help you steer, navigate and manage large sails is important and everything must work and work well. Plus you must stock up on the right foods that can fit in the boats storage and last the trip and not spoil. If you think sailing is just sailing away to easy fun and simple bliss and safety, then you are very much mistaken and do not have the right 'stuff' to take on any sailing trip. It is never safe on the ocean.

  • @PetesNikon
    @PetesNikon 12 років тому

    When trouble strikes you have to know what to do immediately, you can't just use trail-and-error because in a boat, an error will sink you.

  • @PetesNikon
    @PetesNikon 12 років тому

    Any time a sail boat is not in port, but out to sea, she is in danger and one must constantly be aware of what is going on and where you are and what your ship is doing and what the weather is about to do to you. Learn how to sail on a small boat with an instructor on a lake or river before you sail any larger boat. You can never get too much experience, or be too well practised.

    @34timsah Yes, but the captain was a New Zealander who wanted to see his country's team compete in the Americas Cup races off Valencia that year. So we had to move on and not delay. I can't remember if it was thirty-two hundred or forty-two hundred liters of fuel to complete that distance. We cruised at 8.5 to 9.5 knots.

    @jeffnicq This journey was on a sailboat taken at the end of May, early June. I can't give you any specific advice about your motor yacht. If you want to know how much fuel you will use, you must measure how much fuel you use at different speeds driving your particular boat. The faster you go the more fuel you use. Bear in mind, you cannot always go at the speed you want when you have rough weather and high waves, you'll have to slow down for these.

  • @Piccolo_Sun

    @muamd The Monitor is a self-steering mechanism. The blade you saw was being pushed by the wind so that the blade then tilts and moves the rudder to correct it. The whole thing doesn't use any electrical power, it derives it's steering force from a paddle in the water. The whole thing will keep the boat a constant angle to the wind. Which is good for sailing.

    Mostly composed of solid limestone in this region, sometimes this gives way to sand and dirt. What is on the banks of the Suwannee is mostly those plants that can cling onto rocky cliffs and exist on a steep bank. There are also a lot of trees that get too heavy for this cantilevered world and they lean at a crazy angle or fall into the water

  • @sighthounddotnet

    • @PetesNikon

      The Suwannee has banks of limestone. Sometimes they are high cliffs, sometimes you can walk from bank to river. Vegetation is typical Florida; Water Oaks, Cypress and pine.

    ahhh! please dont refer to sizes as "correct". everyone has different opinions about size. i for example prefer whippets from 50cm to 55cm. 48cm is simply too small, in my opinion... for my likes and my dogs' activities (at least in comparison to the larger whippets. instead of "correct size", lets call it "standard size" ;) . the whippet from Jylland, what is his/her full pedigree name? - glenn

  • @sighthounddotnet

    @glennskii Two are Danish bred from Kennel Vibe in Jylland, from English bloodlines (Nevedith and Oakbark). The smaller one (of correct size!) has an American father and a Canadian mother - but born in Denmark! See more of under "sighthounddotnet"!
