How to Make Agar for Growing Mushrooms (2024)
What do you do? Lol
what's the idea behind having a laminar flow hood and working outside of the laminar flow?
I just watched a video earlier comparing all types of grains brown rice did colonise faster than rye grain but the yeild on rye was way more like almost double
An old cooler works exceptional. Just put the ingredients and hot water in the cooler, cover and wait 10 minutes, open and stir, then re-cover. The temps stay closer to true pasteurization where the bucket cools too quickly, hence the blanket. I use boiling water...
I like brown rice better than all the other grains but I've switched mostly back to jars, both quart and half gallon. Tired of plastic, I'm even using glass petri dishes. Plus the rice is "shake-able" in the jars. Rice colonizes fast and performs great in substrate.
❤❤❤ amazing work man rarely I see someone using rice
If something isn’t broke don’t fix it bro. And tmu there is no way prior to finished product to infuse the two. Why would you need to anyway. Cannabis is used much more frequently and at higher volumes per weight to even think about it
Ok so my question is do I HAVE to cook the rice before I put it in the bag and throw it in the pressure cooker OR can I just hydrate the rice throw in in the bag and then the pressure cooker.? I’m in the hydrating stage and I’m debating what to do on my next step
I just saw someone claim they had great success with 2 lbs dry grain and 475ml of water added to the bag and PC for 2.5 hours to make a 3lbs bag. I will be trying that tomorrow. Edit was made to correct the numbers.
Hole saw, just have it on reverse so the heat will make the hole. Smooth, clean, easy.
Can also tape it off and spray paint the new tubs as you get them. Never have to get a liner again. Super easy.
I just had a hydra jedi mindfuck. It has 6 caps out the top 4 of them had stems. I cloned it. Called it hydra mindfuck, ima see if it will happen again.
How's it going fella?
Put the liner on the outside and tape. You just wanna block the light so no side pins but not needed at all
If it caramelized and becomes rubbery is it useless ?
What do you mean by caramelized? Rubbery, I have had this and it still seems to work fine.
How long did it take to start pinning
It takes a year
Pinning depends on the strain. Some will pin in a few days after full colonization and some will take weeks and some even months. I am working with Penis Envy and it takes about a week for me.
@@HowToShroom it’s been around a month n only a single pin grew like harvestable any help on that
What brand fan filter unit is that your using
Check out this video, has links and details in the description
Simple and clear post. Liked the accuracy and presentation and Just subscribed!
Awesome, thank you! I really appreciate the sub
with what species where you colonizing with the brown rice?
I am growing out Penis envy in the brown rice
Should of used wide mouth jars Slides right out in a nice brick if you do it right.
Yes I need to switch jar styles, I just bought so many of these too quickly. LOL
I don't do break and shake on rice... for some reason, it always contams or stalls.
Thank you! 🍄🫶
You are so welcome
Great video I have a couple tips since br is all I use to use! Rinse the rice at least 4 times in cold water. Add one quarter TEASPOON of gypsum per 3 cups of dried br during the boiling process. This keeps rice from clumping and adds some nutrition. I don't know how necessary this is but it seems to help. I slowly raise the temp of the water to boiling over 20 min then let it boil for 7. Then I slowly lower the temp before straining and drying. Last thing I'll say is if using a presto a hot shake with BR is very necessary if using jars so it doesn't clump. With something like an all American you can let it cool all the way though. My theory is the all American cools slower and that some how helps it not clump. That last part may not be necessary since you are growing in bags and bags are easier to break up BUT if you ever run into that issue try these things! Love the video and glad to see people catching on to br!
Thanks, I really appreciate the tips. I will defiantly try this out. Cheers
CLONE THAT 😂
❤️
Great 😃😃😃
Maybe you are trying to think of Ed Grand? He is where I learned the tweezer trick
Yes, this is exactly who I saw do this. Thanks for the reminder
I'm confused as to why you titled this as..."for free" ?...you haven't done anything any other clone video would/would not show P.s. the tweezer thing probably came from Dr. Edward Grand...we should state our sources, Mush Love
Love the content!
I’d appreciate if you gave more tips on the grain prep so we can see the fast growth too
have you seen my rye grain video? ua-cam.com/video/jdBGIx-CU_g/v-deo.html I should do a rice and rye grain grow side by side. Now that I think about it I guess the title was more in my head than the video.
Im. Very interested to see how this turns out.. im kinda dissapointed in my mazapatec strain but im limited on supplies so im bout to put in cos.ic ghost and hope it comes out better than the other..
Actually it became very contaminated and I had to toss it. As someone else mentioned the different strains ended up competing with each other while contamination took over. BAd idea but I was curious.
@HowToShroom sorry 2 hear that.. but just in time..4 tha info.. i was going to set that up as soon as i got done eating in just a few..so thanx again.. now lemme ask u 1 more ?please.. i seem to have no luck with innoculating uncle bens brown rice.. or same kinda packaging.. what is your take on starting with used coffee grounds?
This is not even remotely laminar flow
I am sorry it did not meet your definition what ever that is. It works 99% of the time perfectly.
So.... what size unicorn bag is that and what micron filter?
I use the 4 T small with .2 micron filter patch
@@HowToShroom Thanks man, I needed that info 🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄
What was the cook time and PSI on the pressure canner.
I run at 15 PSI for 2 hours
700th sub!
Why are you surprised they are colonizing faster? There is less nutrition in rice so it will be colonized faster.
Ideally you’d want to use the most nutritious grain not the least
why would it colonize faster with less nutrition?
@@HowToShroom I've heard this before. They say it branches out faster when there is less nutrition. I don't buy that in the case of brown rice though. People say it's a less nutritious grain but in my experience it does great as long as you prep it right. I've found in jars in can clump after the canning process is the main issue but there are ways around that.
You seem new to this. Great job. If it works it's useful and not wrong. Look forward to seeing your channel and methods improve. Mush love friend.
I too believe that what works for some may not work for others. Class does that to people.
Sik video bro thanks for sharing..
Kind of looks like the enigma strains
I am going to try growing enigma in the coming months
Question: Do certain types of mycelium do better with different grain spawns?
That's a great question, I'm not sure. I'm going to look into that
Hey, thanks for the video! What sealer are you using?
Do you mean the sealer to seal the bags up? If so I just added the link into the description of this video. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
Thanks!
This is not laminar flow
My room air purifier blows hepa air into a chamber where it backs up behind a secondary filter allowing the air to flow through even from corner to corner. I run 99% success with all my work.
This is not a laminar flow hood. You get extra points for creativity and the fact that it has an actual hood implement. But that is not laminar flow.
Well clearly since you know everything please explain to me what laminar flow is. Laminar flow (/ˈlæmənər/) is the property of fluid particles in fluid dynamics to follow smooth paths in layers, with each layer moving smoothly past the adjacent layers with little or no mixing.[1] At low velocities, the fluid tends to flow without lateral mixing, and adjacent layers slide past one another smoothly. The air purifier is supplying the air into the let's call it Hood portion. The secondary filter creates the buildup of air allowing it to flow in a stream straight out of my box. The opposite would be turbulent flow which would be the case if I didn't have a secondary filter.
@@HowToShroom 🤣 I will gladly respond to this when I have time later this evening
@@HowToShroom I'm going to do my best to refrain from writing a book here, but there's just so much to address. Lets start with, why did you ask me to describe laminar flow if you were going to immediately post a definition? A bit odd, dontcha think? Also, I actually complimented your design for having an actual hood implement, but you felt it necessary to instantly be $hl++y in the first sentence of your response. Nowhere did I claim to "know everything", simply that your design does not produce laminar flow (which it most certainly does not). I must've missed the part in your video where you demonstrated your "laminar flow" with an anemometer, demonstrating how there is ample airflow emitted across the entirety of the filter face, and how there is ZERO variances in said airflow (you know, laminar flow). I also missed the part where you *attempt* to showcase your "laminar flow" with a flame or smoke test (which neither actually illustrate true laminar flow anyway). Maybe I missed those parts, and should do a re-watch.? Interesting how professionally engineered commercial grade FFUs for medical clean rooms, dust-free rooms for electronics, and for plant/fungi propagation don't produce laminar flow, but your unsealed DIY air purifier HVAC furnace filter contraption does. Go to the manufacturer's home page of any of these popular commercial FFU producers, and not one makes the claim of laminar flow for their devices. Maybe these degreed engineers should be taking notes from your clearly superior design? The only place where there is claim that any of these professionally engineered commercial grade FFUs produce laminar flow is from the dishonest distributors using "laminar flow" as a buzzword to market these products. Contrary to popular bro science belief, laminar flow cannot be achieved with a basic cavity and HEPA furnace filter. Achieving actual laminar flow requires: a $hl+ ton of calculations, a specialized filter containing multiple layer of varying membranes and integrated *usually metallic* straws, adequate cavity spacing, baffle placements, among many more requirements. If you truly knew anything bout laminar flow you'd already know this. In closing, what you DO have with your design, is *possibly* a device that provides filtered somewhat smooth constant positive pressure airflow. And, in all fairness, that's all we really need to be successful in this hobby. I will reiterate that I was, and still am, complimentary of your design. I simply do not agree that it provides laminar flow. This isn't shade, merely facts, and no ill intent. Yes, I got snarky with you in this message, but that's only because of how you responded to me, I match energies. I'm more than willing to bury the hatchet if you are. Regardless, best of luck, and Happy Cultivating!
@@WhiteBeardHashtag1205 I think this guy is full of it. He has 2 videos on this channel showcasing his thingamajig, and not once does he even do a flame test or smoke test. I know those arent the best ways to show laminar flow, but at least itll show something. He claims "This is exactly what I've accomplished here" without displaying it at all. Sure bud, we TOTALLY believe you brochacho 🤣
@@SwiggitySwagDopeInTheBag its been 4 days and he's yet to respond.
This is creative and cool, Ill give you that, but this is not a laminar flow hood. Not even close. Far too many people throwing that term around that obviously dont have a clue what it means.
This is exactly what I've accomplished here thank you. I do appreciate the comment on the creativity.
@@HowToShroom I know what laminar flow is, and I dont believe youve accomplished this with your "laminar flow hood" at all. If so, prove it! At the very least perform a smoke test. I would bet an entire paycheck that smoke test wont show completely uniform air movement.
I'll take rye, oats, or popcorn before rice any day.
What would be the reasoning behind that? I am actually finding that I don't get as many flushes with rice.
@HowToShroom rice has been the most prone to wet rot and contam for me. I have way better luck with literally anything else lol. That isn't true for everyone though.
@@HowToShroomwhat do you mean flushes?
Super creative! Affordable and efficient for a hobbiest, great job
What type of soil?
just a CV mix, no gypsum
Dont mix grams and cups maaaan, describe it all in grams to be accurate and repeatable, jeeesus...grams then qubits then pounds, pick a lane
fair enough, my bad
Excellent video!! I'm curious what the difference would be between sprouted and unsprouted brown rice since sprouted would be less work for the mycellium to break down 🤔
Good question!
When you put the bags in the pressure cooker, are they still unsealed?
Yes, they are just folded around. Not sealed
Nice work! I’m a big fan of clever hacks like this.
I Did a CV recipe too. For whatever reason im not getting any pins. Can anyone give pointers?
What strain are you growing? Some strains take longer to pin than others
@@HowToShroom MVP
Brown rice is hulled. It is not a whole grain. The whole grain wording on the bag is marketing. Brown rice is less polished than white so retains more nutrition than white. I am not surprised it is faster growing because they have already removed the hull, less work for the fungus.
